Warnings: once again a lot of fighting, verbal and physical, and also manipulative assholes-
"You aren't worth any of my time."
"I thought you were better than them."
"I hate you."
Virgil felt his eyes sting with tears as he watched Logan running away from him. He had found out. He knew what they had been doing. Virgil had screwed up. If only he had never agreed to go along with their plan, none of this would have happened. No one would have had to get hurt. Behind him, Virgil heard a laugh.
"Did you see his face? He looked so shocked!" Archer snickered, shaking his head. "As if someone could actually care anything about that freak."
"You're such an asshole..." Virgil muttered to himself, not facing the two of them. Archer frowned, and he stepped closer to Virgil.
"I'm sorry, I didn't catch that." He spoke in a voice that dared Virgil to say something bad about him. Virgil whirled around to look at him, pushing him back against the door the three had just come out of.
"I said, you're a fucking asshole!" Virgil shouted, glaring threateningly at Archer. "You guys might enjoy hurting people, you might enjoy toying with people's feelings, but I don't, okay? If anyone is actually emotionless it's not Logan, it's you, Archer! You don't give a shit about anyone other than yourself."
Virgil wouldn't cry. He couldn't. He didn't deserve to. It was his own fault he was in this mess.
"Why do you care so much? We've been your only friends your entire life, he's not important." Archer sneered, and Virgil barely realized what he was doing as he threw a punch directly at Archer's face. Shock painted his features and blood trickled down his nose.
"I love him!" He screamed, all three of them surprised that a teacher hadn't heard their fighting and come to break it up at this point. "But you don't give a shit about that. You don't care about me, I doubt you even care about Roman even when he so obviously cares a lot about you." At this comment Roman, who had previously been standing silent in shock, started to splutter for something to say. "You don't care about a single person but yourself, and your own entertainment. I hate you."
Archer's shocked expression quickly melted into anger, not bothering to hide it as he usually did. He gave Roman a look to tell him to get Virgil off of him, but Roman hesitated. Archer looked even angrier when Roman did nothing.
Archer suddenly shoved Virgil off of him, glaring daggers at both of them. "You're both really going to turn on me now? After I've been your friend for years? Who do you think is going to want to hang out with you now? No one! Why would anyone want to be friends with either of you? Either you stop all of this right now, or you can be friendless and alone forever."
"I would rather be hated by everyone on earth than be friends with someone like you." Virgil spat, and Archer scoffed.
"Fine, but you better believe I am going to make your entire life hell." He threatened, and Virgil rolled his eyes.
"I've already managed that all on my own. Being friends with someone like you is only going to make that worse." He quipped. Seething, Archer rounded on Roman next.
"And you? Are you leaving me now too?" He demanded. "You care about me, don't you, Roman? Don't leave me. He is an idiot, saying things he doesn't mean because he thinks he loves the Robot." He shot another glare at Virgil as he spoke about him, focusing most of his attention on Roman. Roman looked conflicted.
"I-you-I don't-" He faltered, looking between the two of them frantically. Finally he stared down, wringing his hands. Virgil thought it was very weird to see him this way. Roman was always the overly confident moron who did anything Archer said. "D-do you actually care about me, at all? You've never... shown it, and I've had my doubts before b-but-"
He broke off, looking up at Archer carefully. Archer looked annoyed more than anything, opening his mouth as thought he wanted to speak and then closing it again. He thought for a moment, finally settling for something to say and leering at him.
"Roman, you're an idiot." He said simply. "But you'd be an even bigger idiot to turn against me."
"Well, I guess I'm dumber than even you thought." Roman glared, and Virgil couldn't help but notice the tears in his eyes. He wasn't sure whether he should feel bad for him or not. Roman was an idiot, who had done stupid and awful things, but he was only doing it for Archer. "I'm not going to listen to someone who only wants to use me. Virgil's right, you're an asshole. At least, even if we don't have any friends anymore you won't have any either. Everyone in this school knows you're the worst person ever."
With that, Roman turned to leave the school, swiping at his eyes furiously. Virgil started to follow after him, hearing Archer yelling behind them. He seemed desperate to get the last word in, to make them regret leaving him, but they didn't listen to anything he said.
When Roman made it out of the school he started to make a run for his house, but Virgil caught up with him and held onto his arm. "Roman, wait."
Roman paused, not turning around. "Listen, I'm sorry we made you do that. But please, I can't take any more arguing-"
"I'm not here to fight with you, Roman. I'm sorry. Archer's horrible, and I blame him. Not you." Virgil told him, frowning. Roman turned to look at him, confused.
"But I... I did awful things too, Virgil. It would make sense for you to blame me as well. I would understand." He said, and Virgil shook his head.
"The truth is, we're all to blame here. Archer was the worst of us, sure, and you have done some bad things too, but what about me? I could have told Logan at any point what was going on, I could have told him the truth. In the beginning I should have never agreed to this entire stupid plan to hurt Logan, but I did it anyways. I was still friends with him all these years, stood by while you both bullied other kids who didn't deserve it. We've all done things, but the difference between us and Archer is that we feel bad for it." Virgil explained, Roman looking at the ground as he listened to him. "We regret it, and-and maybe we can't fix things we did in the past, but we don't have to do those things anymore. We can be better."
There was a moment of silence between the two, and Roman looked up at Virgil with a tiny smile. "Thanks. I... am really sorry about Logan finding out all this. I hope that maybe things will work out for the two of you. It is obvious that he really loved you too. Er, I mean... He is hurt, but, still-"
"Yeah, thanks Roman. I don't think it'll work out, but..." he trailed off, looking around the school parking lot that was nearly empty by now. Tears were welling up in his eyes again as he thought about Logan. "Anyways... I hope things get better for you, too."
"Thanks." Roman flashed him another smile. "Maybe... maybe we could still talk? We both are going through kind of the same thing here. You-you don't have to, but... I don't think either of us really want to be completely alone right now."
Virgil sighed, chewing on his lip as he thought. "Maybe." He said finally, unsure of whether or not he wanted to talk to the person who was partly to blame for ruining his chances with Logan. He didn't blame him, but things were certainly very awkward between them. "I... need to go. See you later, Roman."
"Yeah." Roman nodded, sighing and glancing back in the direction of his house. "See you."
The two turned to walk their separate ways, both of them finally allowing themselves to break down while finally away from anyone who might judge them.
It occurred to me halfway through writing this that my mom is going to read this chapter and I cursed a ton in it, whOOPS
