He had said the words with a shaky smile, fingers trembling slightly as he slipped the guitar into its rightful position. The dim light of the candles illuminated his sharp features, particularly the way that his jaw contracted and relaxed in rapid succession.
Her eyes were drawn to the strings. There were six of them, all metal. They gave off a sort of glow in the candlelight. If she looked close enough she could see that they were not entirely whole, but with little slits in them. Not complete. With little sections cut out. However, those sections were not cut deep enough to cause the string to fall apart.
Just about holding together.
Much like the boy holding the guitar.
