Chapter 37

Reeling back from shock I placed my hands on his hard chest panting from that intense kiss that was so familiar and made me glow inside. The smell of pinewood and mint engulfed my nostrils making me weak at the knees.

The dim lighting streamed in from the dusty window showing the outline of his distinct cheekbones and angular jaw making me instantly realize who he was. Both our foreheads were touching and chests heaving making me wildly nervous.

Risk #20: Don't Overthink For Once.

I didn't know what it was that made me act so irrationally or out of impulse. Maybe, it was all the pent up feelings we had for each other or the tiny room space that added to the sexual tension. But I went for it.

Clasping my arms around his neck, I planted my lips against his making it passionate and deep, he was shocked at first before our tongues began to move in sync. I raked my hands through his soft hair, tugging at it, making him move closer, holding the sides of my waist. He was like a craving and I knew he wanted this just as badly as I did.

His warm hands began to move lower and my skin burned from his touch.

Breaking away for air, I did something else unexpected. I slapped his cheek, making him clench his jaw looking down. His thick eyelashes casted shadows under his eyes and his strong arched eyebrows were drawn together in disdain.

"You've been keeping secrets," I say breathlessly my heart still racing from our close proximity.

"So have you," he whispers hoarsely our eye contact unwavering. It was inevitable that he'd found out about the accident. I needed to tell him. Just not here.

My breath hitches in my throat when he advances closer, I'm able to see the silver flecks in his green eyes and the freckles dusted along his nose. We stay silent for awhile.

He begins to place butterfly kisses all along my collar bone. I gasp from satisfaction and how easily he can make me feel so weak and without self control when he's in charge.

"No...no we can't do this here," I pushed my hair over my flushed face. My heart was beating uncontrollably when he stepped back with a look of confusion.

"You can't just go and kiss me again. It's not right," I began to doubt my actions repeating myself shaking my head.

Placing his large hands on the side of my neck he made me look up into his soft eyes.

"No, it's right Shay. It's just not right now," he bit his lip smiling down at me his folds of dimples poking out.

Those words hit me hard and were exactly what I needed to hear. He lightly traced my face with his finger making me giddy inside.

"I hate hiding like this," I told him honestly.

"We won't have too for much longer," he looked down with a swooning assuring smile.

The second bell sounded signalling that classes already begun.

"We need to sort this through, though," I took his hand from my cheek and intertwined them whilst he fiddled with the rings on my fingers.

"Meet me after school." He whispered again kissing behind my ear making me shudder unable to speak from that gesture.

He opened the door and walked off casually down the opposite direction as if nothing happened. Luckily, the hallway was empty so no one saw us sneaking out.

Great. So that janitor closet session solved nothing except relieved us of our hormonal desires towards each other.

He is a helluva good kisser though but I needed to have more self control if we atleast wanted to have a conversation. Not an oral one the next time.

I started off in the direction of my class with a dreamy look still on my face. Until I realized that my hair was all disheveled and my clothes were out of place.

Boy, wouldn't that raise a roomful of eyebrows.

Quickly slipping into the girl's washroom, I bumped into someone who was standing right behind the door.

"Eek! Sorry," I apologized holding their shoulders till I realized it was just Jay.

"Shay! You nearly gave me a heart attack!" She scolded breathing slowly looking uneasily at the last bathroom stall that must've been occupied.

"Well! what are you doing standing in front of the door all suspicious looking-"

She clamped her hand over my mouth darting her eyes everywhere like we were being watched.

"Sshh! Why would I be suspicious of something? I'm up to nothing," she said loudly chuckling nervously removing her hand quickly, when I licked it.

With a look of disgust she rinsed her palm. I came beside her and placed both my hands on the side of the sink after splashing my face with water.

She finally looked up into the mirror taking in my appearance. "Okay. You actually look like you just finished having an intense make out session," she laughed.

"Is it that obvious?" I whined straightening my jacket and dress trying not to seem perplexed.

"O.M.G." her mouth hung open.
"Ian? Never knew he was the sneaking around type," she said in a low voice since we had company.

The girl in the last stall groaned out loud emptying her bowels. But I tried to ignore the plopping sounds.

"He isn't," I said as we looked at each other through the mirror.

"O.M.G," she said again with more emphasis.

"Ryder?!" She mouthed while I nodded slowly making her squeal.

"Where? Under the bleachers?" She said in an obvious tone.

"Worse. Janitors closet," I hung my head lowly even though I actually did enjoy the feeling of being in hiding.

"Oh. That's hot."

I sighed, shaking my head. "You're a dork."

I fill her in on everything else that happened in between.

"Go Ryder. That's hot."

"You think everything is hot!" I say in exasperation to which she just shrugs her shoulders.

"You're treading in dangerous waters with him," she told me truthfully.

"What about your diabolical plan?" I diverted the topic.

"It's currently in action," she smirks. Clipping our noses from the awful smell we walk to the exit.

"You're so evil!" I said. We both giggle slyly.

The entry door swings open and in walks Amber. Alive and well. Not excreting her brains out in the toilet.

"Hi guys," she nodded acknowledging us with a broad smile.

I tried to mask up my surprise while Jay stared from the girl groaning in the last stall to Amber. She did that for quite a while.

"Look Jay, now that I have the chance..." she trailed off wiping her hands and adjusting her straight red hair.

She stood infront of her with a sincere expression. "I just wanted to apologise for how I acted on Sunday. It was totally uncalled for, I just thought...." she trailed off looking down.

Jay was still stoic probably trying to figure out her plan turned out to be an epic fail.

Amber let out a cynical laugh. "This might sound crazy, but I actually thought you had a thing for Morgan and I got kinda jealous and bitchy," she shook her head.

"I know, I know, I'm an idiot. I just hope we can bury the hatchet and move past this," she let out a sigh.

Tapping her foot, she smiled at us awkwardly when Jay still hadn't blinked. The girl didn't even look like she was paying attention!

"O-kay..." she drawled widening her eyes awkwardly. "Good talk." She smiled once more before flipping her red hair and leaving.

We looked back and forth at each other and to the girl in the stall.

"Are you okay in there?" I finally asked aloud.

"Please leave," she whined before groaning again in pain kicking the door.

She didn't need to ask me twice. Covering my mouth with my hand, I grabbed Jay's wrist and we were out the door heading down the corridor.

"You better be feeling guilty. You just gave the wrong girl a case of diarrhoea!" I scolded as we walked with a fast pace down the hall.

"I swear, I slipped the pills in her water bottle. She must've offered it to someone else," she clucked her tongue her eyes filled with disappointment.

"Well, at least now you're faced with the harsh reality that you suck at revenge," I told her bluntly making her pout like a small child.

"And she apologized so now you can move on, hooray-" I said with no enthusiasm.

"I still don't trust her," Jay wiggled her finger, her eyes drawn to slits. She walked off to her next period. We were both beyond late.

Getting into my next class, I used the period excuse making Mr Snider turn red and send me to my seat not bothering to hear the full explanation.

Being a girl has its perks.

Lunch time rolled around and I earnestly walked into the cafeteria nodding my head at Brittney who was yapping about more gossip but all I could think about was stuffing my face with food.

My stomach growled loudly. "Well, someone sure has an appetite," Brittney mumbled.

"It must be lunchtime," I said dryly after we had gotten our trays.

Brittany wouldn't leave my side. She probably figured by now that drama evolved around us and she'd want to up front and center to get all the tea, if you know what I mean.

A few girls from the cheerleading team also joined when the conversation was on the new episode of the reality show, Bachelorette.

"Ladies," Bryce walked over smirking while sauntering over to our table making Brittany choke on her burger.

I looked down at my plate of pizza. "I warned you," I said to Jay in a sing song voice.

He swung his leg over the bench sitting right next to her. She smiled politely turning her head to the side with a hint of regret in her eyes.

"To what do we owe this pleasure, Bryce?" Lia, who was one of the nicest cheerleaders asked in a sarcastic tone.

Yeah. Let's just say our girl talks at lunch should never be interrupted especially if the conversation is intensely based on a reality show.

Bryce licked his lips seductively turning to Jay coming up close. She just rolled her eyes trying to contain her laughter.

"You. Me. Tomorrow night. Dinner. My parents lake house. Say yes," he did his signature head nod waiting for her to accept picking her hand and placing it in his.

I rolled my eyes at his player boy skills. Half the girls at this table have all heard that line before and ultimately fell for it.

I saw Jay shake her head at his thirsty ass that was trying to hard. Until I saw her eyes fill with saddened anger before she smiled cheekily. I turned back to see what changed her mood. Amber was sitting on Morgans lap feeding him fries off of his tray with the rest of the football team cat whistling when they started making out.

Gross.

"On one condition," she implored pulling his collar before he stood up to leave.

"Anything for you," he flirted sitting back down.

"Only if my girls and a few guys come with," she giggled making his facial expression tense up.

"Yeah that's cool. But I was just thinking if you and I-"

She stopped him halfway shushing his lips. "Great. So it's a party then!" She decided for him.

"Did I hear the word party?" I turned my head to see the infamous Abbie with one hand on her hip.

"Jay, tomorrow's a school night. Come on-" I reasoned in a low tone taking a huge bite out of my pizza.

"All the more reason to have one," Abbie interjected placing one hand down on the table swooping her blonde her hair to the side with a pursed look.

She made a pouty face at me. "Too bad, the perfect girl next door here has a curfew."

Actually I did. But I needed to prove her wrong.

"Nah, I'm down. Let's just hope your appointment at the HIV and AIDS Centre doesn't keep you away." I said tilting my head up at her. Everyone at the table ooed loudly.

She stuck her middle finger up with a smile like she was actually proud of me defending myself.

"Starts at 10," Bryce said in defeat finally agreeing. He probably realized he would get more action if most girls were drunk.

"I'll be there at 11." She winked at him.

She bent down near me.

"Now you see, we're not that different...you and I," She stalked off with a new clad of girls hurrying up to her pace.

Was she right? Was I slowly changing? Was that a good or a bad thing? Did I like who I was becoming?
