“Okay class we will be starting our senior Home Economics group project. And please do a good job on this project; it counts as forty percent of your grade. ” announced Mrs. Baker happily.
At the mention of a project the whole class groaned audibly.
“Oh hush guys, you’ll enjoy this project, I promise.”
Mrs. Baker was one of the better teachers at our school. She was nice, cheerful, and lenient. She bent over behind her desk and pulled out a baby doll. She smiled excitedly at everyone and announced, “You’re all becoming parents!”
Again, everyone groaned loudly.
“Now listen up. I will give each parent three different keys. There is a chip inside each baby which will make the baby cry at random times. You must insert each key into the back of the baby under the clothes every time the baby cries to see which key will make the baby stop crying. When I hand out the babies the color of the hat will determine the sex of the baby. Now I will be announcing partners!”
I was sitting in the back corner with Connor, Xander, Chase, and Zack. And of course Damon was in this class, too. Connor, Chase, Xander, Zack, and I were messing around in the corner throwing paper ball wads at each other and laughing. I had just pegged a paper ball at Xander’s face when she had announced the group project. I looked up at the mention of the project and smiled with slight excitement.
“Ohhh I call Xander as my partner!” I announced loudly.
“She’s picking partners, dipshit.” Zack mumbled. I smacked him upside the head with earnest.
“Wait, why don’t you want me to as a partner?” questioned Chase.
“You’d be a terrible father…”
“Hey!” Chase protested.
“Settle down class, I will be assigning partners now!” Mrs. Baker announced.
We all settled down as she began to assign partners.
“Becky and Vince, Tom and Amy, David and Ashley…”
Come on; please be one of the guys.
“… Xander and Macy, Chase and Lauren, Scott and May, Connor and Sandra, Zack and Jacy, and lastly Damon and Calypso!”
Just my freakin’ luck.
“Now please sit with your partners. Before we get started on this project I would like you to take this period to get to know your partner.I will hand you each a baby and you will both decide the days you’ll switch off. Remember if you break or even damage the baby in the slightest you will automatically get an F. Take this project seriously. Switch off equally, this cannot be a one-sided project. So please everyone, be careful and have fun! Now let’s get started!”
I groaned and looked towards Damon where he sat in the other side of the classroom. He looked over at me at the exact same time and winked at me with mischievousness. Everyone stood up and began to make their way over to their partner. I stared at Damon and pointed for him to stand up and sit next to me. He smirked at me, raised a finger, and crooked his finger as if telling me to come forward. I shook my head and crossed my arms across my chest with a scowl. He laughed at my reaction and I stuck my tongue out at him.
“Come here!” he yelled in amusement with his husky voice.
“No, you come here!” I yelled back with a laugh.
He shook his head in amusement and stood up to make his way over to me.
“You’re so immature…” he muttered.
“Okay, let’s get started!” I said, changing the subject.
“What would you like to know?”
“Umm… tell me about yourself.”
“My name is Damon Knight (I’m not sure if I gave him a last name before so this will be his new last name if I had). I’m eighteen years old.” He replied shortly.
I waited for a little bit to see if he would continue but when he didn’t I asked, “Is that it?”
He gave me a smirk and a quick nod and I laughed.
“Okay I’m Calypso Richardson. And I’m eighteen years old.”
After our introduction we began talking and by the time the period ended we had gotten to know quite a lot about each other.
“Okay class, great job! Choose who is going to take care of your child first and please act like actual parents! Name your child too. Good luck!” Mrs. Baker announced.
I picked up the baby by its foot and stared at it with distaste as its blank blue plastic eyes stared back at me.
“So, is it a boy or girl?” I asked as Damon stared at me with amusement.
“Well it’s got a blue cap…” he responded.
“Let’s name him Jellybean!” I squealed in excitement.
Damon stared at me for a minute before doubling over and burst out laughing.
“Je-Jellybean?”
I scowled in annoyance before asking, “Got any better ideas?”
“…Jellybean it is.”

It was only two periods after Home Economics and I was already planning on when I was going to throw the baby out the window. I was in the middle of Calculus when the Jellybean decided it was a great time as any to cry. The wailing rang throughout the classroom and the teacher stopped mid speech to look at me with a raised eyebrow. I groaned and rubbed my temples in annoyance.
“Sorry, a Home Economics project.” I mumbled and searched through my pockets for the keys. Once I finally located them I tore the back part of Jellybean’s top open and inserted each key. Once the baby finally stayed quiet I sighed in relaxation.
Lunch had finally rolled around and I was getting annoyed to no end. I stormed through the hallways and headed straight for the lunchroom. I pushed the doors open to find Damon, Xander, Chase, Connor, Zack, and four other guys I hadn’t met yet seated at a center table. They were laughing loudly and messing around with guys staring at them in admiration and jealousy and girls were staring at them with lust and want. I strolled over to them and plopped down on a seat next to Damon with a sigh. He gave me a genuine smile before turning back to the guys.
“Calypso, this is Vincent, Jake, Seth, and Mark.” Damon introduced as he casually put his arm around my shoulder.
(Sorry if all these guy names are so confusing. haha)
I gave them a hello and listened to them as they continued their conversation. Once the conversation came to a break I took Jellybean out of my hands and handed him to Damon.
“Your son needs you; I’m already tired of him.”
He laughed at my scowl and impatience and took Jellybean in his arms and cradled it.
“Awww, is mommy already tired of you?” he cooed.
I scowled once again and the baby wailed loudly. I laughed loudly at Damon’s expression of panic.
“Insert the keys, dumbass.” I said in between bouts of laughter.
“So, ummm, what’s with the baby?” Vincent asked with amusement.
“Home Economics project.” I responded.
“So are you guy’s partners?” Seth asked.
“Yup, she’s my baby mama.” Damon announced with a chuckle.
All the guys burst out with loud laughter as I smacked his arm and took Jellybean out of his arms and cradled him.
“Awww don’t listen to daddy, he’s stupid.” I cooed.
Again, all the guys burst into loud laughter.
“I’m not an idiot!” he bickered.
“Ya huh!” I replied back than stuck my tongue out.
“Nah ah!”
“Ya huh!”
“I swear you guys are like an old married couple!” Zack yelled out with laughter.
“No we’re not!” We yelled at the same time.
We looked at each other and yelled, “Stop doing that!”
“No, you!”
“Quit doing that!” Again our responses were word for word in sync.
“Would you stop?!”
“I can hear the wedding bells already!” Xander yelled out as they all burst into loud boisterous laughter.
