Jin sat in class endlessly bored as his teacher went on and on about some project they needed to make. He looked outside and saw the rain was pouring down.
"Jin you will be pared up with Jimin." His teacher said and Jin looked at her.
"Okay." Jin answered. He didn't know Jimin well but they had a few classes together. He always thought Jimin was very attractive and he sometimes caught himself staring a little too long. He often thought about talking to him because he really thought he might start to like him, but something always kept him back. So it wasn't all bad that they got paired up together. A little while later the bell rang. Jin gathered his stuff when a shadow was made over his desk.
"Hey Jimin." Jin said when he saw who it was.
"Hey." Jimin said. He alsways sounded sad when he talked. His eyes looked like all life was drained from them and his mouth had probably never been opened in a smile. Still Jin thought he was stunning. "Maybe we can meet up after school?"
"Sure. My house or your house?" Jin asked cheerfully.
"Yours please." Jimin answered. He didn't meet Jin's eyes.
"Alright meet me in the hall by the entrance after school." Jin said and gave a smile.
"Okay." Jimin answered and didn't return the smile. Instead he turned around and walked out. Jin thought it was a bit odd but he was looking forward to talking to Jimin some more. So after school Jin walked to Jimin who stood patiently waiting.
"Shall we?" Jin asked and Jimin nodded. They walked home to Jin in silence so the sounds of the town they lived in filled up Jin's mind. When they came to his house Jimin stopped. He looked at it with wide eyes. "What?"
"This looks like something a Queen and a King would live in." Jimin said and followed Jin to the door and inside. "Or at least consider to live in." It would have been a witty remark if it hadn't been for the emotionless face Jimin wore.
"Well I guess my parents have enough money." Jin said and lead Jimin to his room. They sat on the bed and started to talk about the project which would take weeks to make and before they knew it Jimin had to go home. They deiced to work on it after school the following day. As Jin fell asleep he thought about Jimin. He really never smiled but he kept making witty remarks that suprised Jin and he fell alseep thinking about him.
The next day Jin sighed quietly as he had forgotton an umbrella and it was raining outside. Jimin would come at any moment and they would have to walk home in the rain. When Jimin came he apologized but Jimin said he didn't mind. As soon as they got home to Jin, he hurried to find some clothes he could wear. It was a blue sweater and some sweatpants that didn't fit him at all. Jin had never seen him wear anything but black and always long sleeves so it was weird to see him like that. The started to work on the project and again Jin fell asleep thinking of him.
The following weeks they worked hard on the project at least three times a week after school. At the same time Jin started to fall harder and harder for Jimin and was soon completly lost in him. One day they were sitting on Jin's bed facing each other. Jin was sitting with his back against the wall and Jimin sat close enough for Jin to be able to pull him in if he wanted to. Jin's thoughts were in complete chaos as he looked at Jimin. He had decided to tell Jimin that he liked him. He knew it was a risk because he had no idea how Jimin felt about him but it was a risk worth taking. So when they fell into a hole about the project Jin stopped.
"Jimin I want to tell you something." Jin said and Jimin looked up on him.
"Yeah?" Jimin asked and waited for Jin to continute. Jin put away their project and Jimin watched him do it. He cleared his throat and his heart was beating hard in his chest.
"I like you." Jin said it like it was a fact everyone knew.
"No you can't." Jimin said it with horror in his voice and it was like he pulled a little away. Jin frowned confused by the others actions and words.
"Why not?" Jin asked.
"Because I ruin everything. Because I'm a failure. Because I'm worth nothing. Be-"
"Jimin stop." Jin cut him off. Jimin had started to hold tightly around his wrist and tears were appearing in his eyes. Never had Jin seen someone who looked so hurt in their eyes and he knew it had been there for a while. Jimin was like a wounded animal.
"Because I'm a big mess." Jimin finished and looked at Jin.
"You're not any of those things." Jin argued back. "You're a wonderful, beautiful, witty, amazing, stunning person. You got everything."
"You're only saying that because you don't know my past." Jimin said and now tears were streaming down his face. Jin dried them away and waited patiently for Jimin to gather himself.
"Will you tell me?" Jin asked as it seemed like Jimin wouldn't say anymore.
"It's dark." Jimin said.
"I can handle it." Jin answered and dried some more tears away.
"I did this." Jimin said and pulled up his sleeve. Jin was shocked to see a scar clearly from Jimin trying to slice his wrist. "I didn't want to be here anymore."
"I'm so sorry." Jin said because no one taught him what to do in a situation like that.
"It's not your fault." Jimin said and pulled down his sleeve again.
"Are you still thinking of doing it?" Jin asked. He wanted to make sure Jimin felt stable.
"No. Not after they took me away from my family and I got adopted by someone else." Jimin said but Jin could tell he wasn't done talking. "My real parents hit me. All the time. They treated me like a slave. I couldn't function in school and I didn't have any friends...I felt so alone. One day I couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to end it so badly but the neighbour found me. They called the ambulance and they found marks and bruises all over my body. My real parents went to jail and I was lucky enough to get adopted but..I never felt the same. It's like it's hanging over my head. I got help and all that so really I'm not thinking about doing it again but..how do you get back on your feet after doing something like that? How do you smile? I sure don't know." Jin listened carefully to Jimin's story and he felt his heart ache for him. He couldn't help but pull him into a hug. He could feel Jimin's body get tense and then starting to relax before he put his arms around Jin. They sat quietly for a while. When they finally pulled away Jimin had stopped crying.
"I'm sorry this happend to you but it dosn't change my feelings for you. I still like you." Jin said. "To me this only means that I want to protect you harder. I want to make you smile. Like a geniue smile. I know you might not feel the same and that's okay but I still want to be there for you. I want to be someone you can trust and fall back on."
"Ji-"
"No Jimin whatever you're gonna say, you have to listen to me. I will make you see the way you really are. A person who should only be allowed to be in a movie because you're that perfect. I want to help you get rid of all the bad thoughts. I know it can be hard and scary but don't be afraid." Jin said. He wanted despreatly to make Jimin feel better.
"Jin." Jimin sighed and looked into Jin's eyes. "I'm messed up. You may not like to hear it but that's the way I am. I have days where I can't go to school because the memories are taunting me. I have days where I cry for no reason. I'll always have those days."
"And I want to be there for all of those days." Jin said and rested a hand on Jimin's thigh.
"Look Jin..I-I like you too. I just-I don't know how to do it. This." Jimin explained.
"Then let me help you." Jin said again. "Take the chance Jimin, it'll be worth it." Jimin looked like his thoughts were running around in his head.
"Alright." Jimin said and that one word meant the world to Jin. "So what now?"
"I ask you if you want to be my boyfriend." Jin said and smiled a little. "Do you want to be my boyfriend?"
"Yeah." Jimin said shortly but Jin could sense a little smile on his lips which meant the world to him. Jin pulled Jimin over on his lap so there wasn't a lot of space between their faces. "Jin I've never kissed anyone before but I would like you to kiss me."
"Then I will." Jin said. He caressed Jimin's cheek and pulled him in. Their lips met in a soft and sweet kiss. When they pulled away Jin saw the most wonderful thing he had ever seen. Jimin smiled brightly and Jin almost didn't dare to move in fear of the smile vanishing. "You look beautiful."
"Stop saying that." Jimin said and hid his face. Jin could see his eyes were shining a little.
"But you are." Jin argued back with a smile.
"I can already tell this will be a good relationship." Jimin said. "I haven't smiled in years but you make me want to smile. Even when you were just a friend, I felt happier. I wanted to have you as a friend and I never thought I would be your boyfriend. You make me happy."
"That's my new life goal." Jin said. They went quiet and suddenly Jimin got tears in his eyes. "What's wrong?" Jin asked worried.
"I-I'm just so happy I met you. I never thought I would be happy again." Jimin said and dried away his tears.
"Awh Jimin, I'm so happy I met you too. I want nothing more than for you to be happy." Jin said and kissed his cheek. Jimin smiled again and leaned into Jin's embrace. They didn't work on the project the rest of the day but Jin didn't care in that moment they needed each other. When Jimin had to go home they kissed and Jin once more was lucky enough to see Jimin's beautiful smile. He fell asleep that night with the image of Jimin's smile and happiness buzzing in his body.
