Chapter Twenty-Three

Brandon POV:

I went back home and ran to my room straight. I pulled out my cell phone from the charging and dialed her number.

Pick-up the call, Madeline.

It kept going to voicemail.

Pick-up the call, please!

She wasn't picking my call and my heart was dropping to my knees.

Pick up the call, Dammit!

"Why isn't she picking it up?" I asked myself.

I hope you're alright, Madeline. I hope you're alright wherever you are.

I kept the call on redial. But she didn't pick up, not even once after my thirty missed calls.

In pure anger and frustration, I threw my cell phone on the bed. I was so frustrated, annoyed and disappointed.

I dropped down on my knees on the floor feeling defeated. I felt my chest contracting and blocking the intake of oxygen. My eyes started to get blurry making it impossible for me to see clearly.

The panic that was building inside me started to show on my body. I was paralyzed due to the pain and it was getting difficult to breathe.

My bedroom door was burst open and I glanced up with my blurry vision to see my mom and dad standing there looking alarmed.

I was too vulnerable at that time to care that my parents just recovered from the horrible accident and it would stress them to find me like that.

My mom and dad sat down on their knees and stared at me worriedly.

"Brandon, baby, breathe in and breathe out," My mom said.

My dad whispered, "My son is the strongest boy. He is fine. Don't worry,"

My dad's word warmed heart making me follow my mother's instruction of breathing.

Breathe in breathe out.

Breathe in breathe out.

Breathe in breathe out.

After a few minutes, my breathing was normal again. The panic attack that I hadn't experienced from five years caught me off guard.

I closed my eyes tightly then opened them to see my parents looking worried.

"I'm fine, mom and dad. It was just a panic attack and it caught me off guard." I said.

"What is it, Brandon? You haven't got a panic attack in the last five years. You know you can tell us anything, we are your parents." Mom said.

"I guess, I was just upset because of everything that's happening for last two weeks." I lied averting my eyes from their faces and staring at the floor.

"Don't lie to us, Brandon." My dad said in his I'm-not-in-the-mood-to-hear-your-bullshit voice.

"Madeline, she left. She just left, dad. Can you believe it? Without telling me anything or saying goodbye. S-she just left like that," I said.

"What? Why?" My mom asked looking confused.

"I don't know why they abruptly left? I went to her house and there was an unknown man. He told me that they've sold the house to him. I'm unable to understand why?" I said feeling sad.

"Did you tried to contact her?" My mom asked.

"I've called her many times. But she's not picking my calls" I said feeling the emptiness in my heart.

"Well, you should give her some time. I'm sure she'll call you back soon" My mom said squeezing my hand.

"I'm having a really bad feeling about this all. I feel like I lost her and she is never going contact me again ever," I mumbled as the feeling of the pessimist was creeping in my chest.

"I think your mom is right. Madeline is a nice girl and she is your best friend. She'll call you soon. Don't worry," My dad said.

"I hope so, dad," I said hoping.

My dad patted my shoulder and mom caressed my face lovingly. I kissed her hand.

"I know I don't say it a lot but I love you both. I don't want to leave you guys. I-I want to study here in Boston so I can live close to you."I said.

They stare at me in shock. My mom looked at my father with worry.

"But you have so many options and acceptance letter from best colleges. Don't hold yourself back because of us. We will miss you. But we want you to experience your life like other teenagers of your age." Mom said.

"I'm not holding myself back. I just really don't want to be far away from you guys. The thought alone of leaving you guys is giving me anxiety." I said.

"Do whatever you wish because we are not going to complain if our son decides to stay here with us." My dad said silencing my mom panic rambling.

"We love you and your siblings so much that the thought of our kids moving to different city give us a minor heart attack. But we still smile. When Noah left your mom would randomly cry. It's really hard for parents to go through this. But if you change your mind we would still be happy for you." Dad said taking mom's hand in his.

I hugged dad and mom patted my back. They left my room telling me to freshen up.

I picked my cell phone and called Jake. He was the only who could understand me and come to help me.

"Jake, I need your help," I said.

"Okay, I'm coming," He replied.

Jake never asks me why I would need him. When I call him, he would be there ready to help.

Madeline POV:

I woke up with my head pounding and groaned in pain. I heard the noises of a door closing and opened my eyes.

The bright lights in the room hit my eyes making me close them instantly. I felt extremely tired and wanted to sleep like a baby.

Despite my wish of staying asleep, I opened my eyes again to find myself in a luxurious suite. My eyes widened in fear. I couldn't remember how I came here and why I wasn't in the quarter that I share with the other girls.

I sat up on the bed with the lightning speed and felt lightheaded.

The same man and woman that stopped me before I fainted were standing in front me once again. They were staring at me like they were given the trickiest math equation to solve.

The woman was dressed in emerald color long silk dress while the man was dressed in black suit pants and a shirt. They looked rich and sophisticated.

I noticed the mixture of shock, pity, sadness, and worry in their eyes. I didn't understand why would they feel so many emotions for a stranger like me.

"How are you feeling, dear?" The woman asked.

"I-I'm fine," I said feeling nervous under her gaze.

"That's good. That's really good," They both said in unison and then looked at each other smiling.

"Why? Why am I here?" I asked staring at the room.

"We want to know something, dear. Can you tell us your father and mother name?" The man asked me instead of answering me.

I was suddenly confused and scared.

"Why do you want to know my parents' name? Why are you both look so interested in my personal information? I don't think it's any of your business. Oh, god! Are you guys from some human trafficking company?" I said getting up from the bed in fluid motion an standing on the floor with a vase in my hand.

They both look scared at my fast moments

"Let me clear one thing that I will not go anywhere without a fight. I throw some mighty punch and you don't want to get your face black and blue." I said ready to punch the man when his words frozen me on the spot.

"You're so fierce and impulsive like Bella. You're getting on the conclusion without listening to anything," The man said with the small smile.

"How does he know about my mother?" I asked myself.

"What? How do you know about my mom?" I asked feeling scared.

"Gabriel Russell and Bella Russell are your parents?" The man asked making me frown because my parents' first name was correct but the surname was wrong. I was Hamilton as long as I remember.

The man and the woman noticed the confusion on my face. "I mean Gabriel and Bella Hamilton are your parents?"

My face stayed impassive which made them realize that I wasn't taking their bullshit anymore. They could have gotten this information from my job form.

"Let me introduce myself formally. I am Nick Emerson and this is my wife Nina Emerson," The man said extending his hand.

I looked at the woman who smiled at me warmly like encouraging me to shake the man's hand and stupidly I did.

"Who are you?" I asked calmly while he was still clutching my cold hand firmly in his warm ones.

"I'm your uncle from your father's side, Madeline." He said and I snatched my hand away from his like it burned me.

My parents never told me that I have an uncle. I only knew Nate was my uncle and Emma was his wife. I didn't know I have any more relatives from my parents' side.

I didn't even meet aunt Emma before the day she came to tell me that my parents died in a car accident.

"But your surname is different from mine. How you can be my uncle?" I said my guards were up.

"I'm sorry if it comes to you as a surprise. But it's true. We're not expecting you to believe us like this but we have proofs. I'm really your aunt and he's your uncle. Doesn't this man look like your dad?" The woman said.

He did look like my dad a lot.

I took a glanced at both and caught nothing but veracity spread on their faces.

"I didn't know my father has a brother. They never told me anything about you." I said feeling ashamed at my rude behavior.

"I'm not your only uncle, Madeline. Your dad has two more brothers." He said with the smile.

For a second, I felt dazzled to see his smile because it looked exactly like my dad.

"T-Two more brothers," I said in a shock.

"Yes, and you also have grandparents." He said.

I stumbled little at the new information. I was having trouble coming up with the situation of having suddenly too many family members.

Nina was instantly on my side taking my arm in her hand and supporting me.

"Nick stop with all this information. She'll eventually know everything." Nina scowled at him.

"I'm sorry, Madeline. I shouldn't have pressured you with all these new information at the moment." He said looking sheepish.

"I'm fine. I'm sorry too for the way I acted. It's just that I wasn't expecting this. And I'm really tired and this information is shocking me to the core. When I saw you in the restaurant I thought for a second that you look like a bit older version of my dad. But he is dead." I said.

Nina's grip on my arm loosened and she took a step back looking at me weirdly.

"Your father is dead?" She asked me shocked.

I thought it must be a shocking news for them so I decided to elaborate.

"They died in a car accident fourteen years ago. I had been living with my aunt Emma," I said.

Nick and Nina both stared at me like I was a crack head.

I shrugged thinking they were in shock.

"I'm going back to my room. Nice meeting you both." I said ready to leave the room when they both snapped out from their haze and pulled me back by my shoulder.

"You aren't going anywhere. We've booked a room for you on this floor. You're tired and look very pale. The bag under your eyes clearly shows you haven't been getting any sleep. Your blood pressure was dangerously low that's why you fainted." My uncle said.

I stared at him with my mouth dropped open. I sarcastically thought What is he? A doctor?

"As a matter of fact, yes, I am a doctor and your aunt here is also one," Nick said making me realize that I said it aloud.

"Please, Nick, aunt sounds like I am some fifty years old lady with white hair." My aunt said glaring at her husband.

"Just call me Nina," Nina said walking closer to me.

"I don't mind if you call me Nick like your cousins do," Nick said with the polite smile.

My eyes widened at the mention of cousins.

"I-I have c-cousins too," I said hyperventilating.

I have a bunch of family members so where were they all these years?

"I think Nick you should just stay quiet," Nina said glaring at Nick.

"Umm, I think I should go." I was feeling uneasy at their friendly gestures.

"Here is the key to your room, take a good rest, dear," Nick said putting the key in my hand.

"I don't think it's a good idea. I work here as a waitress and I have a room at the back of the resort where other employees stay." I replied.

"No, you're not going back there. If you believe us and trust me that I am your uncle then go to this room. We'll talk to you in the morning." Nick said in a stern voice making me gasp.

I thought no one had a power to order me. A person can blackmail me to do their work but I didn't take orders from anyone.

"I...I..." I tried to say something but failed.

"Take it right now, Madeline." He said in a fatherly tone making me take the key from his hand. "You're so stubborn, like your father." He said.

"I'm glad we found you. You have no idea how happy we are. Goodnight, dear." Nina said hugging me making me freeze.

"Thanks," I mumbled.

"See you in the morning," Nick said placing a soft kiss on my head and shocking me.

I wanted to cry and hug them for showing so much love and care. But I was still scared.

I recalled how Brandon used to kiss my head and my heart started to ache.

Ugh! I was already missing him. I wanted to hug him and fall asleep in his arms.

I nodded my head and left their suite by closing the door with a sulking face.

I found the room number 505 and unlocked it. I entered the room, it was luxurious and beautiful as other rooms in the resort. The white sheets and soft comforter were placed on the bed calling me in. The king size bed alone looked so inviting that I just wanted to fall on it and rest.

But I decided to postpone my plan of sleeping because I desperately wanted a shower. The shower was like a necessary thing after my job ends. It always made me relax. After a shower, I always fell asleep quickly.

I entered the washroom and started removing my clothes.

You would never believe what happened?

I wouldn't have believed it myself if it wasn't me the one screaming like a dying person.
