I'm sorry for this emotional chapter omfg. 😭💗 the next one is just gonna be.. UGHHH!! 😭😭😭 here you go.

101k Today.

****

I groan and reached my hand up to my neck, rubbing it gently to try and ease the pain. My eyes were shut but I could still tell that I was surrounded by darkness.

Though, I remember falling asleep in grandpa's room at the hospital. I thought I remembered the light being on?

My eyelids shot open and I immediately was engulfed by an empty dark room. I squint my eyes after they adjusted to my surroundings.

I looked down and seen that I was still sitting in my original spot of the uncomfortable chair.

"Ugh, my neck hurts" I rubbed the back of my neck and decided on getting up to stretch

I stood up from the chair and let out a small laugh at the tingle that shot up my leg from it being asleep. I shut my eyes and moan from the satisfaction of my now sore limbs feeling relaxed after stretching.

"I honestly don't know how you were an athletic swimmer back then, grandpa. I feel like I just been hit by a tru-" I pause after re-opening my eyes and looking at the empty bed that was now neatly made

"ck?" I furrowed my eyebrows and looked over at the bathroom to see it was empty as well

My heart dropped

"Grandpa?" I call out and began to panic

I quickly walked towards the door and swung it open. I watched as a few nurses looked at me weirdly before continuing on with their conversations.

I looked down the hall, to my right was the exit to the waiting room, and to my left was more pathways to different rooms and doors.

I step out of the room, shutting the door behind me before making my way down (town) the left. Just as I was about to push open the two double doors, a lot of doctors came rushing in with a patient who seemed to be unconscious.

I watched as the scramble their way down the hall before continuing to where I was going.

"Hey!" I call out to the nurse that was assigned to my grandpa

"Hey! Excuse me! Nurse!" I waved like she would even seen me even though her back was faced towards me

She stopped and turned around with a confused look on her face as her eyes wonder. I smiled and waved, catching her attention this time before walking over to her.

"Yes, dear?" She smiles in return

"Uh, do you know where the patient in room 213 is?" I asked

She frowns "Um, i'm afraid not."

This causes me to frown as well. "Do you know by any chance if they moved a patient from that room?"

She looks down at her clipboard and searches through papers, "What room did you say it was?"

"213" I say, a bit too anxious

"213..213.. oh! Yep" she looks up "Your grandpa, right?

"Mhm" I nod eagerly

"He's in surgery" she states a bit too calmly

I looked at her confusingly before shaking my head "that can't be? He was due for surgery in a couple more days?"

She gave me a small smile before saying "here" and pointing to where his name was written

Patient 109 room 213
Alec Haynes - Mr. Haynes
Doc note- Mr. Haynes shall be removed from room at 8:00pm and is due for approximately 2 hour surgery at 9pm.

My eyes flickered from the piece of paper and to the watch on the nurses right wrist.

11:10pm

My eyes widened "where's the room?"

"What?" She said confusingly

"Where's the room?! Where is he??" I raised my voice but felt bad when I seen her back away in fear

"I'm so-"

She nods "it's okay, hun. Its the 10 floor room 975"

"Thank you." I smile sympatheticly

After that, I ran as fast as I could to the elevator, apologizing to the people I ran into on the way and not stopping until I reached the elevator. I stepped into the elevator and quickly pressed the 10th floor button.

I patiently, scratch that, ANXIOUSLY waited on reaching the tenth floor and the door to open.

"Damn it!" I curse and pressed down on the button again "how long does it take just to fucking rise to a floor?!"

The elevator finally dinged and the doors slid opened. I just ignored and shoved past the doctors who told me I wasn't supposed to be up here.

I made sure to look at all the room numbers in search for 975.

"678?" I read the numbers nailed on the door

"721? What the fuck" someone needs to go back to kindergarten and learn how to count

I slowed down my pace as I inched towards the big two doubled doors that had the numbers '975' in bold next to it.

"Miss!" A doctor called after me

I once again ignore them and continued make my way to the doors with a stupid smile on my face. Tears brimmed my eyes as I seen through the small rectangular windows on each door, my grandpa lying in the bed peacefully.

My hand made its way to the handle and I tried to pull the door open, but it didn't budge.

"Huh?" I looked down at the handle, using both hands to try and open it

"It's locked." I frown

"Miss! You can't be up here!" A doctor cane beside me

I looked through the window and my eyes shot towards the heart monitor. My heart pounds against my chest as I see the lines go uncontrollably fast and then soon fell into a straight line.

"No no no no!" I bang on the door as I looked at my grandpa now being surrounded by doctors

"Grabdpa!" I try to cry out but nothing came out

"Ma'am, i'm sorry but you have to go! Now!" Another doctor tried to pull me away from the door

I tried to fight back but it felt as if I had no control over my body. I couldn't hear my self but I knew my mouth was moving.

What's going on? Why can't I hear myself? Why can't I move? I want my grandpa!

Tears ran down my face rapidly as I inched further away from the door. Both doctors had gotten ahold of either sides of my forearms and walked me to god knows where.

All I know is that I kept looking back at the door, waiting for the moment my grandfather somehow magically walks out with that well known smile on his face that everyone adores, as he embraces me into a tight hug and tells me everything is going to be okay.

.. that never happened.

It seems like I shut my eyes for a second before opening them, once again being surrounded in nothing but darkness.

"Wh-What is this?" I sniffed and wipe away tears that were still falling free

I looked up and was met by a bright shining light. Soon, the room was filled with floating-like images and my favorite memories with my grandpa.

My shoulders shook as I begin to break down in uncontrollable sobs.

"I want to wake up!" I cried out

"You will," a well known voice mysteriously sounded throughout the entire room

I turn around and was met by the sight of someone I felt as if I lost already. I was a shaking mess as I stood their like an idiot.

How could it be?

He was no longer dressed in the ugly night gown that the nurse put him in, he was wearing his normal clothing. His skin was glowing like there was no tomorrow, his eyes now had their usual twinkle to it, he looked so healthy.

Most of all, he looked happy.

I cover my mouth with my hand as I choked on my own sobs. Warm tears rushed down my already reddened face as I stare at my grandpa who seems to look like he's enjoying life so much right now.

"No," I shook my head "y-you're not real."

He shook his head and smiled "none of this is real, Lia." He called me by the nick name he gave me when I was 6

"There's moments in life when we want to believe that something is real and is what we want to happen. But, you have to then remind yourself that life has its own plans and you can't tell the future, and neither can you change it" He inched closer "the best thing we can do and the only choice we have, is to wait it out and see what the future has planned for us.

He stops a feet away and held his arms open for me. I sob as I ran into his arms and hugged him as tight as I possibly can, afraid of letting him go.

"I want to believe you're real! I want to believe that this is all not a dream" I cry into his chest

"I don't want you to leave me! I still need you! Grandpa, please!" I sob

"I know, Lia. I know."  He soothing ran his hand up and down my back before pulling away arms length

He stares at the crying mess in front of him before using his right thumb to wipe under my eyes.

"No more crying, okay?" He still managed to smile even though he knows that this is hurting him too

"I don't know how" I sniffle

"How to what?"

"How to stop crying." I tell him

He raised both of his eyebrows and stared at me in silence. I looked at him confused as he begin to laugh out of now where. The sight of his wide grin caused me to smile and laugh a bit too.

"What's so funny?" I wipe away stray tears

"Nothing" he waved it off

I smiled and nod "grandpa?"

He looks at me with the friendliest grin you could possibly have. "Yes?"

I frown and begin to fidget with the arm of my now soaked with tears sleeve.

"What's gonna happen when I wake up?" I look up at him

His grin slowly fades but he still manages to keep the tiniest bit of a smile on his face.

"Life." He says

I shook my head "I don't wanna wake up."

"Bu-"

"No!" i cut him off and held tight on the hem of his jacket

"I don't wanna leave your side! I wanna be here with you, I can't leave you!" My bottom lip quivers as I watched his eyes become glossy

He sighed "you're as stubborn as you mother."

His laugh was like music to my ears. He rest his hand on the right side of my face while staring deeply in my eyes. His eyes seemed so happy from afar, but now that i'm up close, I realize how empty and warn out he must be.

"I can tell you're tired of fighting." I blurt out "the medication, the appointments, nights in a hospital instead of at home with your family."

Tears escaped my eyes as I couldn't look away from his, "you're tired of it. Tired of not being able to do things you want, tired of always forgetting what you want to cherish in your memories for ever."

This time I wasn't the only person who was leaking salt water from their eyes. I wiped away his tears and hugged him once more.

"You know what's gonna happen, don't you?" I pull back

"Yea." He nods "But i'm ready for it."

"Don't say that" My voice cracked

"You're gonna get through this, grandpa." I assure him "I know you will."

His face held different emotions as he stared at me like he wanted to say something but couldn't.

"I will." He smiled

A smile made its way on my face as I pulled him into another hug. He returns the hug with a small squeeze.

"I know you will." I whispered

"I need you to do something for me, Lia." He slowly pulled back

"Anything." I nod

"I need you to promise me, no matter what, you won't cry if things don't turn out the way we hope."

I frown "bu-"

"Lia. Promise me." He held up his pinky

"I promise." I lock in

"I need you to be the strong for me. The only way I am gonna get through this is if you're there with me through every step of the way."

I grin widely and nodded my head "of course."

"Now, Lia?" He took my hands his both of his

"Yea, grandpa?"

"I need you to wake up." He says

"What?" I try to say but once again I couldn't here myself talk

This time I couldn't hear him talk either. I could tell he was mouthing 'wake up'.

"Wake up hun." A random voice echoes

"Cecilia, I need you to wake up now" the same voice sounded to be in a hurry

Soon non-stop beeping was heard and I had jumped up, finally now awake. I breathed heavily before looking at the nurse at my side who looked at me worried.

"What's going on?" I asked
