Katherine was alive in a tomb, Emily Bennett possessed her descendant Bonnie to destroy a crystal that was needed to let her and 27 other vampires out, and Bonnie knew about vampires.

And us Salvatores were leaving Mystic Falls for good.

"So any idea of where you'll go?" Stefan asked me and Damon.

"I don't know," Damon said. "London, maybe. See some friends."

"You don't have any friends, Damon," I said.

"You're right, Kaylin. I only have you and Stefan." He turned toward us. "So . . where are we going?"

'We' are not going anywhere," I said with a shrug. "I'm gonna live my life as far away from you as possible, like I have for the last hundred years."

"But we're a team, Kay. We could travel the world together." He walked closer to me and Stefan. "We could try out for The Amazing Race."

"Mm," Stefan hummed. "That's funny. Seriously, where are you two going? Because we're not staying in this town."

We stopped when the doorbell ran, and Stefan looked at either of us as he went to answer it.

Sheriff Forbes was on the other side. "I'm here to see Damon."

"Uh, sure," Stefan said as I walked closer, Damon behind me. "Okay."

"Sheriff," Dad said. "What a surprise."

"Sorry to bother you," Sheriff said. "Be we need to talk."

"Come in."

Stefan and I waited inside on different couches as they went outside to the side of the house, both of us listening.

"I hope you understand the secrecy. Stefan and Kaylin don't know about this yet, and I'd like to keep it that way."

"Of course. Kids are too young to be brought into this."

'So, what do you need?"

"There's been another attack. A female victim, her throat torn out, completely drained of blood. It fits the pattern."

"I'm sorry, I don't understand. I thought we solved that problem when I staked the blonde one."

"I'm thinking she must have turned someone or multiple someones. I don't know. The story for the town is another animal attack, but I'm not sure how much longer we can keep lying to them. The Council's in an uproar. We thought we were past this."

"So, uh, what do we do?"

"You're the only one who's ever taken on a vampire. We were hoping you could tell us."

So Damon killed again. Why wasn't I surprised?

*

Damon was inside now, him and Sheriff next to the door. "Thank you for stopping by."

"Let me knw what you come up with," Sheriff told him.

"Absolutely."

As Damon shut the door behind her, Stefan sped toward him, pushing him against it. "What is wrong with you? You killed somebody?"

Damon pushed him off as I stood up. "Get off of me. A, don't touch me." He walked around him. "B, if I had, I wouldn't be so obvious about it. C, there's another vampire in town."

"That's impossible," Stefan said.

'Obviously not," I said as Damon turned to me.

"Well, who could it be?" Stefan asked.

"Ah, what do we care?" Damon asked. "We're leaving anyway, right?"

"No, I can't leave now, and you know that. How are we supposed to find this person?"

"Let the adults handle this, Stefan," Damon told him.

He started to walk away, and I stepped in his way, "Yeah, no. Let me handle it. You boys have had all the excitement recently. It's my turn."

*

I didn't technically hate myself for asking Caroline to help me because I had heard about her and Matt.

She had the vampire compass, and she told me over the phone, "So what do I do now?"

"Just wait," I told her. "I'll be there in a minute."

"You know, you're lucky it's you who's asking. I wouldn't do it if Damon asked."

I whoosed up behind her as I said, "You wouldn't have had a choice if he did."

She turned and handed me the compass. "I don't mind helping you, but why did you need me to do this?"

"'Cause I interfere with the signal," I answered.

"Hey, can I ask you a question?"

"Shoot."

"You and Matt, are you still . . .?"

"No," I answered, looking up. "Why?"

"'Cause I might be starting to like him, and I just wanna know if it's . . .okay with you."

I looked into her eyes, compelling her. "It's fine. Now, before you get hurt, get in your car and go home. Forget that I asked you to do this 'cause Damon would kill you if he knew you knew the truth, and then he would kill me. All you remember was that we hung out for half the day."

"Okay," Caroline agreed easily. "Bye, now."

"Bye," I said as she turned for her car.

And I turned for the abandoned warehouse building behind me, walking up the stairs and grabbing the locked door handle and pushed down till it broke. Then I pulled it open and pulled it shut behind me as I walked in.

All I saw was fence-like things and nothing else, but I sensed someone, turning to the left as the news bastard I had killed shot me again, repeatedly, and I yelled out and groaned as I fell to the floor on my knees, and Logan Fell came closer.

*

I'd killed this bitch!

"I have tons of these wooden bullets, so . . . nothing funky," Logan told me as he circled around me.

"You don't want to do this, trust me," I said as he shot into my shoulder. "Ow!"

"That's what you get."

"For what?" I demanded.

He leaned closer. "You made me like this."

"I killed you," I said. "I didn't turn you."

I started to pull out the wooden bullets as Logan said, "See, I know what you and your brothers are. I've been watching the three of you. I knew you'd show up here. And I'm glad you did, because I have some questions."

"Me first," I said. "Who turned you?"

"How should I know? Last thing I remember, I shoot you, I'm about to stake one of your brothers, and you grab me. That's it. Until I wake up in the ground behind a used car dealership on Highway 4. Somebody buried me."

"It happens."

"You bit me. It had to be you."

"You have to have vampire blood in your system when you die, moron," I said. "I didn't do that. Some other vampire found you, gave you their blood."

I laid back on the floor with a sigh as Logan asked, "Who?"

"That's what I want to know," I said, looking up.

"It's not like the welcome wagon was waiting with a bun cake and a hand book," Logan told me as I sat up. "It's been a learn-as-you-go process." I gave him a sarcastic smile, nodding. "You know, one minute, I'm a small-town, on-the-rise news guy, and next thing I know, I can't get into my house because my foot won't go through the door."

"You have to be invited in," I told him.

"I know. I live alone."

"Oh," I said, chuckling. "That sucks."

"So now, I'm at the Ramada, watching Pay-per-view all day, eating everything in sight, including house keeping."

"It could be worse."

"All I can think about is blood, and killing people. I can't stop killing people. I keep killing and I like it. I'm conflicted."

"Welcome to the club," I said snarkily. Then I remembered what Sheriff Forbes had said. Logan stood. "Wait a minute. Cops only found one body "

"I left one. I was tired. But I've been hiding the rest of the bodies. They're right back there."

"You're kidding," I muttered as he pointed back to the pile of bodies.

"They're just piling up!"

No kidding.

*

Logan was crouching again as he asked, "Why am I so overly emotional? All I can think about is my ex-girlfriend. I wanna be with her and bite her and stuff."

"Well, you probably love her," I answered. "Anything you felt before will be magnified now. You're gonna have to learn how to control that."

"What about walking in the sun? I'm a morning person. You can walk in the sun, which, by the way, is pretty cool." I fiddled with my daylight necklace. "The Council will never suspect you. That's not in the journals."

I looked back at him. "The journals?"

"Yeah, the Founding fathers, they passed down journals to their kids. Come on, you gotta tell me. How can you walk around in the sun?"

"Who turned you?" I asked.

He repeated more forcibly, "How do you walk in the sun?"

I narrowed my eyes. "Who turned you?"

"You know, I've been really nice so far but I will kill you."

He stood, pointing the gun at me.

"Really nice?" I repeated. "You shot me repeatedly. On more than one occasion. And you tried to kill my brother. And if you kill me, then you'll never know." I stood, glaring. "You're not answering my question."

"You first!" Logan exclaimed.

"It seems we're at a bit of an impasse, then, doesn't it?"

"I have things to do, people to kill. Guess I'll be needing a little head start."

He shot me about seven more times, and I groaned as I fell while Logan left me alone in the warehouse.

*

I called Stefan as I shrugged out of my leather jacket, looking in the mirror as I watched the wounds heal. "Logan Fell is a vampire and when I find him again, I'm gonna destroy him limb by limb."

"What happened?" Stefan asked. "Are you okay?"

"No, I'm not okay. I was ambushed. I was shot. Again." I put my phone between my ear and shoulder, pulling my shirt over my head and showing my black and pink lace bra as I threw the shirt to the floor. "Now, I'm vengeful. Just got to find him."

"Well, there's no need. He's here at the school."

"You're kidding me. Why the hell is he there?"

"He's working the crowd."

I turned away from the mirror and grabbed a different shirt, pulling it over my head. "Well, I'll be right there."

I hung up, pulling on my leather jacket as I left the room.

"Need a little help, Kay?" Damon asked as I walked past him in the hall downstairs, walking to the front door.

"Be my guest."

*

Stefan told us where Logan would be--the dick kidnapped Caroline.

Stefan vamp speedily pulled Logan out, throwing him to the pavement. Logan stood, and I shot Logan with his own gun more than three times, and then he fell.

I smirked. "Payback's a bitch, isn't it?" I looked at Stefan, looking at Caroline. "Get her out of here."

Stefan nodded, going around to the passenger's side to retrieve Caroline.

And we heard Sheriff Forbes on the phone. "Logan, what happened?! Logan?"

Damon jogged over to the car to pick up Logan's phone. "Sheriff, yeah, it's Damon."

"Where is Caroline?"

I saw Stefan grab her before vamping out.

"She's okay," Damon told Sheriff. "I'm on Elm Street."

Damon hung up as I got into Logan's trunk, grabbing a tire iron. I walked over to Logan. "Gonna try this one more time." I swung the tire iron toward him threateningly. "Who turned you?"

"I told you I don't know," Logan told me.

"This tire iron here could take your head clean off. Is that your final answer?"

"How can you side with them?"

"I don't side with anyone. You pissed me off, I want you dead. Who turned you?"

"I don't know!"

"Oh, well. You're screwed."

I started to swing it toward Logan when Damon stopped it. "Now, now, little sister. Sheriff Forbes will be here any minute, get gone. I'll take it from here." I raised my eyebrows at him. "Unless you want her to find out you're a vampire."

I tilted my head, nodding. "Good point." I pointed at Logan. "Just kill that little bastard."

Then I disappeared for the night.
