Your P.O.V
"You don't think that Grim thing's got anything to do with Sirius Black, do you?" Ron asks Harry anxiously as we walk down the stairs to our next class.
"Oh honestly, Ron. If you ask me, Divination's a very woolly discipline.-" Hermione begins.
"I agree," I say.
"-Now, Ancient Runes that's a fascinating subject," she finishes.
"You were doing so well, and then you just lost me."
"Ancient Runes? Exactly how many classes are you taking this term?" Ron questions.
"A fair few."
"Hang on. That's not possible. Ancient Runes is in the same time as Divination. You have to be in two classes at once," Ron says.
"Don't be silly, Ronald. How could anyone be in two classes at once?" Hermione retorts picking up her pace. I eye her suspiciously but she just waves me off so I leave it alone. She shakes her head disapprovingly. "Broaden your mind," she mocks.
"Use your inner eye to see the future!" I play along laughing with her.
After walking to the bottom of the hill, we arrive to Hagrid's classroom. Well, kind of classroom. Just outside his hut, but still, I'm incredibly proud of him finally becoming a teacher. He deserves this.
"That's it. Come on, now come closer. Less talking, if ya don't mind," he says gathering us around his hut. "Real treat for you today. A great lesson. Follow me."
He leads us into the forest near his hut and brings us into a clearing. "Is anyone else as scared as I am?" I ask my friends.
"Scared?" Harry questions.
"Hagrid tried to raise a baby dragon in his home. He had a three-headed dog for crying out loud," I retort. My friends mutter in agreement as we start form into a semi-circle around Hagrid.
"Right, you lot. Less chattering. Form a group over there. And open your books to page 49."
"Exactly how do we do that?" Malfoy snaps.
"Well, just stroke the spine, of course. Goodness me," Hagrid retorts obviously as he turns around and walks away to, in quote, 'retrieve something'.
I take a deep breath before looking down at my book. Let's just say we didn't get off to the best start. I rub the spot on my next from where my book went all vampire on me.
"Ok book. Don't be a hassle just be kind and if you will just open nicely for me," I coax the book. It snaps at me and I hit it making it whimper. "You stop that right now or I'll accidentally drop you into the black lake," I say making it flip open quickly and earning me judgemental looks from my friends. But I'm used to it so I don't really care.
"I think they're funny," Hermione says turning to us.
"Oh, yeah. Terribly funny! Really witty! God, this place has gone to the dogs! Wait until my father hears that Dumbledore's got this oaf teaching classes!"
"Is that your bloody catchphrase?" I ask him. "Whenever you don't like something you call daddy and ask him to make your problem go away?"
"At least my father isn't rotting in Azkaban," he retorts.
"Oh, you'll regret that one, Malfoy," I say raising my fist to his face.
Before I can do anything I feel arms around my waist and look to see Harry pulling me back along with Ron and Seamus at either side of me for caution.
"Watch the attitude, (y/n). That's what got your drunk of a mother locked in Azkaban too."
I feel tears start to sting my eyes. Harry notices this and turns around. "Shut up, Malfoy," he says letting go of me and walking towards that foul blonde git.
"Ooh!" He says along with his stupid Slytherin goons.
He tosses his book bag to one of them and walks towards Harry, the crowd narrowing in on them watching in suspense. Draco then starts shrinking back in fear and I look at him partly wondering if he's having a fit of some sort.
"D-dementor, dementor!" He says pointing up.
Harry, along with the rest of us turn around in shock when Draco and his friends start laughing their arses off. We turn around and they throw the hoods of their cloaks over their eyes and making 'ooh'ing noises.
"You're such a tool, Malfoy," I mutter under my breath as Hermione goes up and pulls Harry away from them.
"Stupid orphan," he retorts.
"You didn't seem to think I was so stupid last year when you asked me to sit with you before basically begging me to tell you who the Heir of Slytherin was," I say making him shut up once and for all and also making a lot of the Gryffindor go 'oooh'. What children.
I walk over to my three best friends and smile. "You're pretty ruthless, (l/n)," Harry says.
"When it comes to him, yes I am," I reply.
Hagrid then clears his throat as he comes back from wherever he was. "Da-da-da-da," he says gesturing to a... what the heck is that thing,
A large sort of... bird? Stands before us. It's grey with specks of darker grey on certain areas of his body. He's got four legs, unlike a regular bird but he's got two wings as well. Not to mention a long sharp beak.
"Isn't 'e beautiful?" Hagrid asks enthusiastically. He throws a dead possum at it to which the creature catches it in its mouth. "Say hello, to Buckbeak."
"Hagrid, exactly what is that?" Ron asks.
"That, Ron, is a hippogriff. First thing you want to know about hippogriffs is that they're very proud creatures. Very easily offended. You do not want to insult a hippogriff. It may just be the last thing you ever do."
Well, that sounds great. Can't wait to get even closer to it, what a great thing you've brought us, Hagrid. This is great. Not.
"Now... who'd like to come and say hello? Two volunteers!" He says enthusiastically.
I look around and notice that everyone has stepped back except for Harry and I. "Oh... no..." I say. "You can let Harry have this incredible experience, I'll sit this one out," I say stepping back.
Harry grabs my cloak sleeve. "I don't think so," he whispers.
"O'course not! Both o' ya! Come on up... now." Hagrid says.
I gulp as Ron pushes Harry forward and he pulls me with him. I flash a nervous glance at Hermione who returns it and I walk towards the giant bir- hippogriff.
"Now... you have to let him make the first move. It's only polite. So... you step up. Give him a nice bow. Then you wait and see if he bows back. And if he does, you an GO and touch him. And if not... well, we'll get to that later. Right, now just make your bow. Nice and low."
I glance at Harry who shrugs and starts to bow. Hagrid looks at me pleadingly and I roll my eyes. "Fine. But you owe me."
I bow down to the hippogriff and it starts fussing and squawking. "Back off you two! Back off!"
We back away slowly but Harry steps on a stick making a loud snapping noise. I hear Hermione gasp from behind us and I start shaking as the hippogriff starts coming towards me just inches from my face.
"Keep still, (y/n). Keep still," I do as told and the hippogriff takes a step back before bowing at me. Shortly after, it looks towards Harry and bows at him. "Well done, you two! Well done eh, you big brute, you," he says throwing another possum to the hippogriff. "RIGHT. I think you can go and pat him now. Go on. Don't be shy."
I walk towards the hippogriff, Harry following behind and follow Hagrid's instructions. I hold my hand out as Harry and the rest of the class looks cautiously. It squawks and I turn my head away from it just managing to see Hermione grab on to Ron's hand. Giving her a sly grin causing people to turn to her and having her turn red and no doubt cursing me in her head.
I turn back around to the hippogriff this time letting Harry go to pat him. The creature jumps at him making the both of us gasp but after awhile Buckbeak walks over to him and allows Harry to pet him.
"Cool," I say as I walk over and pet him as well.
"Well done!" Hagrid exclaims as the class breaks into claps. "I think he may let you ride him now."
I look to Hagrid. "No one said anything about riding."
"Come on," he says lifting me up and placing me on the back of Buckbeak.
"What am I suppose to hold on to?!" I exclaim.
"You don't," Hagrid shrugs.
I look down to Harry looking smugly at me. "Get up here right now, Potter."
"No!" He replies laughing. Next thing he knows Hagrid lift him off the ground. "Hey! Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Ha-Hagrid!"
"Don't pull out any of his feathers, cause he won't thank you for that."
Hagrid hits the back of Buckbeak making him stand on his bottom legs. I scream and wrap my arms around the hippogriff's next while Harry puts his arms around my waist. The creature then starts charging past the group of students.
"Hagrid!" I scream.
"What do we do?!" Harry yells back.
But before anyone can do anything the bird jumps of the ground and flies into the air. I scream again and Harry tightens his grip around my waist. Buckbeak continues to fly over the trees and I eventually stop screaming and try to enjoy it. He flies over Hogwarts and Harry puts his head on my shoulder making me smile.
"This is so amazing," I say.
Buckbeak then soars just over the water. So close we're nearly touching it.
"Let go," says Harry.
"What are you mental?" I respond.
"Trust me."
And so I do. I let go and put my arms out to my side feeling the wind rush through my hair and I smile wider at how extremely perfect everything is.
"Woohoo!" Harry yells making me laugh.
Buckbeak starts flying upwards at by the looks of it back to the forest. I hear Hagrid whistle and Buckbeak lands back into the ground as the class claps loudly.
"Well done (y/n), Harry! And well done, Buckbeak!" Hagrid exclaims. Hagrid helps us down and leans in. "How am I doin' on me first day?"
"Brilliant," Harry says.
"Professor," I add.
"Yes. You're not dangerous at all, are you?" Malfoy asks pushing past people in the crowd.
"Malfoy-" I begin knowing this won't end well.
"Shut up, (l/n)!" He yells walking closer to the beast. "What a great, ugly brute."
Buckbeak runs up to him and uses his talon to cut Draco's arm.
"Oi! Good job Buckbeak!" I yell earning a laugh from Harry and a glare from Hagrid.
God, I'm starting to love this thing more by the second.
