"What is it that you've got to tell us?" I ask Hermione curiously.
"Yeah and... why're you crying?" Ron adds awkwardly.
Hermione shakes her head quickly and wipes her eyes. "No, you go first. What'd you guys find out?"
"Uh, sure," I say cautiously, exchanging a glance with Ron. "Malfoy and (y/n) aren't working together after all. He's not the heir of Slytherin, he doesn't even know who the heir of Slytherin is."
"Draco said he had asked her if Harry was the heir of Slytherin and she told him no. He knows she knows something, he just doesn't know what," Ron adds.
"But that's not all," I continue. "It turns out that the chamber has been opened before. We don't know who opened it. . . but it's definitely been opened before."
Hermione nods weakly and sits down on the floor, rubbing her eyes in stress.
"Hermione, what's wrong?" I ask. "What did you find out?"
Hermione sighs and wipes her tears. "I went to talk to (y/n). She was acting weird off the bat, she seemed surprised when I went up and talked to her. I asked if there was anything new, anything I, Ginny, should know about and she said the plan is in action. She's coming after us next," Hermione breaks down into another set of sobs.
"What?" Ron and I exclaim.
Never would I ever have thought that it'd come to this. I always thought that no matter what happened, there'd be a line, I though we were that line. (y/n)'s willingly risked her own life, her own safety for ours before. How can she want us to be her victims now, what changed?
"What else did she say?" I ask emotionlessly.
"That she's gonna petrify the three of us next. She told me it physically pains her to see the three of us waking around because of how much she despises us," Hermione cries.
"You're kidding me," Ron says shaking his head in hatred. "When? When is she gonna come after us?"
"Right now."
The three of us look up to see (y/n) standing at the entrance of the lavatory.
I walk fearlessly, directly up to her. "How could you do this is? Say all that about us? We've been there for you, been your friends, your family, really, since day one! We've cared for you, helped you, and now you want us gone? You're unbelievable, (y/n), you know that?" I scream angrily. I can't really tell though if all my anger is directed at her or at myself. I'm furious at myself because a part of me, a part deep, deep down still loves her. A part of me will always love her. That's what frustrates me the most.
(y/n) seems unfazed by my words, she looks to the ground to the motionless Ginny passed out just a few feet away.
Yikes!
I turn to Ron and Hermione panicked. This might be a little hard to explain.
(y/n) shakes her head. "You nutters believed that?" She asks surprised.
Ron, Hermione and I stare at each other in confusion. I notice that Hermione and Ron hold their wands out at her, just in case and it makes me sad that it's come to this.
(y/n) rolls her eyes. "Really, you three, you think this would fool me? I was literally there with you when Hermikne proposed this whole polyjuice potion scheme."
Ron and Hermione lower their wands, their anger fading to embarrassment. I feel the same. How is it that none of us remembered?
"So all the things you told me?" Hermione asks.
"Fake," (y/n) says with a shrug. She looks sadly to Ginny who lays still on the ground. "Ginny hasn't spoken to me in ages. I wondered why she would out of the blue come up to me and ask if there was anything she should know," she says putting air quotes on 'anything she should know'. "C'mon Hermione have I taught you anything?"
"But why lie?" I ask.
She shrugs. "For fun."
I can't help but crack a smile at her. The (y/n) I remember. Haven't seen her in ages.
"Follow up question," Hermione says coldly.
"Go ahead," (y/n) replies.
"Why are you here now?"
She shifts uncomfortably and sits down. "To apologize. And. . . I'm ready to tell you."
K stare at her quizzically. "Tell us what exactly?"
"Everything."
The three of us look amongst each other skeptically.
"How do we know this isn't a trick?" Ron glares.
(y/n) is silent for a moment. "Because, you know that despite everything that's happened, you still care about me and you want me to en ok. Because you're the best friends anyone could have, the only friends really that I've ever had and I was stupid enough to let you all get away, even though I thought I was doing the right thing."
"How do you know we still care?" Hermione asks.
"Well do you still care?" (y/n) returns.
It's silent for a moment before finally I sit down across from her. "I care."
Hermione sits beside me a minute or so later. "I do too."
We turn to loom at Ron who still glares at her. He sighs, frustrated before he too, takes a seat. "I hate myself for it, but yeah, I care,"
(y/n) smiles the tiniest bit.
"But that doesn't mean we forgive you," Hermione points out. "It means we'll hear you out."
(y/n) holds up her hands. "That's all I need. I have to warn you though, that if I tell you, you too could be in grave danger."
"Well that's something we'll all figure out," I say.
Hermione nods. "Together."
(y/n) nods as well before sighing once more. "Let's see, it all started when I went to apologize to Harry for yelling at him, right after your Quidditch accident. While I was on my way to the hospital wing, I felt as if I was being followed. I turned and saw Ginny. She was being all weird, wasn't herself, she said she needed me. I followed her here and she cast a spell on me."
"What spell," Hermione asks.
"The imperio curse."
Hermione and Ron gasp. "That's an unforgivable curse!" Hermione exclaims.
"Yeah and now I know why," (y/n) nods. "It's a bloody nightmare it is. Anyway, Under the spell, I opened the chamber, I saw some. . . creature. A big, evil monstrous creature that, quite honestly I'm having trouble remembering. The memories are fading, I don't know why nor what it means but it's getting harder to remember. Anyways, I sent the creature off to kill and when Ginny and I woke up the next morning, all anyone was talking about is how Colin Creevey was petrified," she shudders at the thought and takes a deep breath. "I did it. I swear though, I wasn't in my own mindset. Ginny told me all about it. They've been cursing her to get to me. She's been doing all the little tasks but, for whatever reason, they need me to do all the petrifying. We were getting close, we really were, but it's like all this information has been literally erased from my brain. I used to know his name, now I can't remember. I can't separate what's real and what's fake anymore."
(y/n) wipes her eyes as tears threaten to spill before she continues. "I remember nothing from the second time I entered the chamber. I woke up in front of Justin and Nearly Headless Nick. Harry, I was ready to tell you all then and there. I tried to go get Hermione and Ron but they got me before I got the chance. It's like they knew I was going to tell. I never meant for you to take the fall and I'm so sorry that you thought that I did. The same thing happened the other day, Hermione. It wasn't me you were talking to, it was them. I would never, ever call you that word, nor would I ever threaten you. It broke my heart to see the fear in your eyes, inside I was screaming. You just couldn't hear me, you heard them. Guys, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. I should've told you right after it happened I just didn't want you to go through what Ginny and I went through. The emotional and physical pain we've endured, I knew that if I got you involved I'd never forgive myself. It got way too out of hand and I, I'm just so sorry."
Hermione is the first to tackle her in a hug. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry that we haven't been there. I believe you, your not at fault. The three of us will keep you safe now, you've done more than enough on your own. We're gonna figure this out together now."
After their exchange Ron hugs her next. "I'm sorry, (y/n). I was terrible to you. I'm so, so sorry."
She looks at me, awaiting a reaction. I stare back at her. How could I have let this happen? I should've pushed harder, made her let me in. All this time I thought she hated us, she did everything she could to protect us. I'm a right proper git. I only hope she can forgive me.
"(y/n), I-"
She cuts me off by wrapping her arms around my neck, pulling me into a hug. I immediately hug her back, never wanting to let go. We stay that way for a few minutes before Hermione eventually clears her throat n
"Hate to break this up, but (y/n), I've just hit a few more questions," Hermione interrupts, much to my dismay as (y/n) pulls away from our hug and turns to Hermione.
"Go ahead," she says. "But I won't be much help. I've told you everything that I can remember."
"So you don't remember who is controlling you?" Hermione asks.
"Not a clue," (y/n) shakes her head. "It's literally like my brain has been erased. I had a very good grasp on everything that happened. Ginny and I were working together, we were able to remember almost everything from that first night months ago. Now, I can hardly remember what I just told you."
Hermione nods. "What about your parents? Could they be involved in anyway?"
(y/n) shakes her head. "I doubt it. I don't even believe that whoever was sending me letters was even my mother. The parents that raised me in London are not in Azkaban. I'm sure of it. I looked in every book I could find, they simply aren't there."
The four of us stay up quite late as (y/n) tells us everything she knows from her and Ginny to the end of summer at Ollivander's who apparently knows of her mother and had warned (y/n) about her at the beginning of the year.
Ginny wakes up right as (y/n) is telling us more about her parents so that we can figure out where they fit in to all of this. Ginny is confused at first, understandably. She probably thinks she was put under the imperio curse but (y/n) quickly reassures her that she told us everything. Ginny though, doesn't really react.
"How about you, Ginny?" Ron asks hopefully. "Do you remember who's doing this to you both?"
"No," Ginny says. "I've got to go."
She leaves the bathroom and (y/n) shakes her head. "Was I that sketch-"
"Yes," the three of us answer quite quickly.
(y/n) looks at us sheepishly. "Sorry. I didn't even realize."
Ron sighs. "And I suppose you don't know why Ginny isn't talking to us?"
(y/n) shakes her head. "I have no idea. She just out of the blue stopped talking to me too."
It's silent for a moment until Hermione yawns. "We probably should call it a night. We can reconvene tomorrow morning, we'll try again to figure this all out."
We all agree and the four of us walk back to the Gryffindor common room. For the first time in a long time it feels like things are back to normal.
When we arrive at the common room before we go our separate ways, (y/n) pulls me into one last hug.
"I've missed you," she says.
I smile and hug her again, even tighter than before.
"I've missed you too."
