What She Has Learned

She has been taught
that her body was simply a rest stop on his long journey; a place for him to spend the night.
She has been taught
to mistake lust for affection as his hands touched her body but never her soul.
She has been taught
that her mark on his heart was only traced in sand, easily blown away by the wind.
She has been taught
that love is a game played by two pawns; in the end someone always loses, and someone always breaks.
She has been taught
that her heart was a toy, tossed around like a ball of glass between men incapable of holding on.
She has been taught
through her brokenness that maybe she was unworthy of this dream people called love.
And she has been taught
that boys will be boys, because he was never taught to treat her like the work of art she was.
