I watch Kloe carefully as she smirks at Rowan's words. Kloe's presence makes me uncomfortable and something about her doesn't settle nicely within.
"So, how did you two meet?" I ask with a smirk.
"Oh," Kloe says with a fake smile, "Rowan and his pack were looking for a place to stay and I was hunting so I suggested this place."
I snarl at her attempt to aggravate me. "My pack, Rowan isn't even beta, he's a gamma."
Kloe's fake smile falters and is replaced with an annoyed scowl. "What do you mean? He said he was your beta."
I smirk at her. "Ah, I see Rowan has mentioned me?" I say, catching them in their lies.
Guilt is written all over Rowan's face while Kloe looks mortified. Good, serves you right.
"This is my pack, I earned it and if anyone wants to take it away they can feel free to challenge me." I say in a daring tone.
I watch Rowan's she-wolf closely as she eyes me up and down carefully. I can already see what's coming from a mile away.
"I challenge you the alpha position." Kloe says with her head raised. I give her credit for bravery but that credit breaks in half as she eyes me wickedly.
"I accept." With that I lunge at her unexpectedly.
Kloe is caught of guard as we land on the ground with me on top of her. My nails dig into her flesh on her wrist as I restrain her tightly. This battle won't be till death, but will be until submission.
Kloe whimpers and squirms underneath me. She doesn't show her neck but it's coming. I snarl in her face and send a punch to her face. She lets out a cry of pain as I send two more to her face. Blood drips down her nose and smears onto my hand as I grip her face in my hand.
"Submit." I sneer.
"Never!" She says while trying to sound strong but in reality she sounds weak and terrified.
I get off her and wait for her to stand up on her two feet again. I want her to fight me, although this can be an easy battle. I want to make her pay.
Kloe tries lunging at me but I easily side step her which results in her only attacking the ground. I snicker at her causing a low growl to emit from her mouth.
"Are you done playing?" I ask in a mockery tone.
She roars in anger and lunges at me and sends both of us toppling onto the ground. With my quick reflexes I end up on top of her which causes her to huff in frustration.
Kloe must have grown tired of this and shows her neck in submission.
I don't get off her, I grab her small face and bring it close to my face. "Don't you ever challenge me again or else I'll slaughter you."
I get off her and kick some dust onto her to show my power. Roars of claps erupt from my pack as they smile at me approvingly. "Any others?" I ask while eyeing the crowd.
A few of my pack members look around anxiously at one another. They know that I will dominate whoever dares to challenge me for a position I've worked so hard for.
After minutes upon minutes pass and nobody steps forward and rises to my challenge I take a small breath that I wasn't aware was being held in.
I put on a small smile and nod at everyone. "Good, now we need to return home, home to the others."
"How do you suspect we do that alpha?" A younger male of mine asked with an eyebrow raised. His dark eyes meet mine as he waits for my answer. This make is no more than a pup but already has the bravery of a fine warrior, although I don't appreciate his disrespect.
"Easy pup, we go home to where we belong. I am not going to live in fear the rest of my life. I belong here." I said with determination laced in my voice.
"What about the rest of us? We get to live in fear because of you?" The young pup sneered.
To say I was shocked was an understatement. Is this really how my pack members feel? The feel scared?
"Dayton shut up and go back." A rough makes voice scolded in anger. I look at the voice to see a well-known solider of mine, Drew.
"Drew, is this your pup?" I ask.
"Yes alpha." Drew says while bowing his head in shame for his pups disrespect.
"Reign him in." I demand while glaring at the cowering pup.
Drew says nothing but nods and roughly grabs his son and pulls Dayton behind him.
"Anyone else feels like this?" I ask with narrowed eyes.
A few pack members that I once trusted step forward. My heart slowly falters at this. I feel betrayal settle in at my own pack members fearing their lives because of me. I never wanted this, I never wanted a mate, especially the most deadliest and cruelest one alive.
"Then leave and anyone who agrees with them is free to leave. You will become rogue and will be treated as one of encountered." I say while taking a deep breath and keeping a blank face.
It kills me to do this, to be like this. I have no other choice, I won't be doubted as an alpha.
"Maddison, why're you doing this?" Rowan hisses into my ear. He grips my forearm and drags me away from the shocked crowd.
"It's my duty as their alpha." I say firmly.
"This is not you." Rowan exclaims.
"No? But isn't it?" I ask angrily. "You don't know me Rowan." I add.
Rowan looks at me in shock. His eyes are wide and his jaw is clenched. His body is rigged and he's veins in his arms are popping out like decorations on a wall. "No Maddi, I guess I don't know you, and to be honest......,"
"I wouldn't want to."
My eyes widen and begin to water with unwanted tears. His words drill into my head over and over again on repeat almost like a broken record player. Rowan eyes me once more before walking away from me and to his mate.
I find my heart shattering like glass that has fallen. The shards pierce into my skin making it difficult to breath. The tears have made their way down my face like a endless river.
I think of my mother, my cousin and her unborn baby. That's what is important right now, not my feelings.
So, I do what I do best. I put my feelings into a little box and lock it up and store it away in a basement known as my mind. I wipe away the tears and force my erratic heartbeat to calm down. I walk over to where I was before and eye my pack members carefully.
"Alright, we leave at dawn."

Yay, I updated! So this chapter actually had a little something in it and wasn't exactly filler!
How do you guys feel about Rowan now?
I'm a little disappointed that CTA was 91 in the what's hot list and is now bumped back up.:/ But I guess it's me to blame since I haven't been updating but my daily updates should be back on:) seeing how I'm crippled and have nothing better to do with my life ;)
