Brett was on his way to Elly's apartment with a blooming bouquet of her favorite flowers when he saw something that made him stop dead in his tracks.
There she was. Having dinner. With him. Anger caused him to ball up his fists, crushing then flowers. Then he saw her laugh. She smiled. She joked. She enjoyed being with him. His enemy. The final blow.
He had forgiven her for everything, was on his way to make things right, and here she was, stabbing a knife in his gut by dining with his mortal nemesis.
Brett had never felt this kind of pain before. He grabbed his chest, quite sure that his heart was shriveling up and dying. He burst in to the coffee house, tears running down his cheeks.
