A Little Tight

Karen laid down next to Jim in their bed, bringing the covers up to her chin. She  grabbed a magazine and flicked through the pages.

“Christmas is going to be a little tight this year,” Jim said.

Karen sighed loudly.

“I would expect nothing less.”

“It’s not my fault that they keep cutting my salary, Karen. I’d love to be able to buy all of you whatever you want, but I can’t. I’m a chemistry teacher at a public school, not a Wall Street businessman.”

She didn’t respond, just flicking through the magazine disinterestedly. Every crinkle of paper made Jim cringe.

“Maybe we could buy Lil a dildo so she stops fucking that boy.”

Karen threw her magazine down and looked at Jim with an irritated look on her face. She looked at him as though she was going to say something, but instead rolled her eyes and picked the magazine back up.

“Maybe we could give her yours.”

“Fuck you, Jim.”

He leaned over to tickle her, but she moved away.

“Come on, I’m just kidding.”

He kissed her cheek, but she didn’t do anything but turn over.

“Good night, Jim.”

“Night.”
