Who Ever Said Life Was Easy?
Ch. 11
I lay on my bed thinking.
It was 12:30am and we had just gotten home... I mean just gotten to DJ's house.
After I had decided what to do, I told the cops everything. I told him about Kevin and what had happened at school. How we had run away from him, and then what happen outside the store. By the time I had finished talking, there were tears flowing out of my eyes.
It was hard enough telling DJ about my life, but telling a complete stranger? Much harder.
The cop's face was full of shock. He probably imagined that their would be an interesting story, but nothing like this.
My story had taken about an hour and a half, shockingly, to tell. And they still had to get DJ and his mom's statements.
Once all three of us were done, I thought we would be able to leave. But no, I had to sit on the otherside of one of those oneway window things, listening to Kevin's side of the story.
It was the most rediculous thing I have ever heard.
At first he was bullshitting the cops, trying to make them think I was the one who whas lying, but Kevin quickly learnt that that was not going to work.
What happened next was even MORE rediculous.
He told them the true story. But he said it so calmly like it was the most normal thing in the world.
They ended up putting Kevin in jail without bail until they set up a court date. The cops said something about if a bail was set there was a risk of him coming after me.
Finally we were able to leave. But what was outside was probably the best part of the night! (Heavy sarcasim) Outside of the police station were news reporters! Cameras. microphones. EVERYTHING!
The second I stepped out of the station I was bombarded with questions. How did they find out about this? Guess you can't put anything past news reporters...
Thankfully a bunch of cops had come out and started telling the reporters to leave, and helped me get to the car without too much trouble.
The cops had also wanted to send me to some kind of kids shelter. But after a long talk from DJ's mom, they agreed to let me stay with them until everything was sorted out. Until... That one word kept going through my head.
Maybe I could still stay here permanently, but I didn't know if I'd be allowed to yet...
I was kicked out of my thoughts when there was a knock at my door. "Come in." I said.
"Hey. How you doing?" DJ asked once he opened my door.
"Good. It's just a lot to take in."
"I can imagine. It's mind boggling for me and it's not even my step-dad or anything." I felt him sit on the bed and looked up. He had a tray. On it was a plate of cookies and two glasses of milk.
"You brought cookies?" I asked, my mood a little brighter.
"Yup. It was a lot of hard work making them too. Taking them out of the package and putting them in the microwave. Gosh, I'm exhaustedd." DJ exadurated.
I lauged. "I bet. What happened to actually making the cookies though?"
He looked at me seriously. "You've never seen me cook have you?"
"Nope." I popped the p.
"Let's just say it's a miracle mom still let's me use the microwave."
I gave him a wierd look, "Alright... I'm kinda afraid now."
We stayed up for a few more hours eating the cookies and just talking. It was nice and it got my mind off of what was happening in my messed up life.
I don't really remember what happened after that. I just remember coming to enough conciousness to feel DJ pick me up and place me under the covers. He kissed my forehead and I went out like a light.
