Chapter 23: Cookie dough coffee

"Are you guys sure this is gonna work?" I asked as my hands trembled in my lap. I personally don't think it will but it’s worth a shot. Maybe.

"You'll be fine," Brad said for the millions time.

"If something happens to you we will be there and have your back," Jingo said with a deadly serious voice.

The room fell quiet. There was a thundering knock on the door. My eyes widen in shock. All the boys pulled out their guns. Jack slowly creeper towards the door with the gun in front of him. He peeked thought the peep hole. He looked back at us and singled the guys to put down their guns. Our eyes connected and he winked at me. I couldn't help but feel the warm blush that went to my checks.

I got the feeling whoever is on the other side of the door is a good person. Well as good as a gangster can get. Which I'm pretty is not even close to being a virgin Mary good. Which brings me to another question who the hell can get prego and from not have sex?

While I was in deep thought I didn’t notice the door was open. There stood covered in sweat is Zane.  My eye connect with Zane's, when I first met him I thought he was tumble kind of guy material now that I notice he doesn't have anything in Jack. Why am I comparing him to Jack? Cause you like him, a voice in the back of my head said. No, no that can't be true.

“Are you ok?” Zane asked running to me. Well trying to run to me, he didn’t make it there because Jack grabbed the back of his shirt making him halt.

“You’re not going anywhere near her,” Jack growled at him, glaring into his eyes. Jack is being protective of me. Aww!

“I’m here to help protect her. That’s why I’m here right?” Zane asked holding Jacks glare. I could see Jack stiffen.

“Doesn’t mean you have to touch her,” Jack started. Jack is acting like a jealous boyfriend, a voice in the back of my head teased. I rolled my eyes.

“Zane,” Jingo order as he left the room. Zane followed him like a little puppy.  I looked over to Jack only to find him already looking at me. He gave me the look and head nod that said follow me, I gave a slight nod.

He walked ahead of me as we made our way through the hotel hallway. Finally he stopped at the elevation and I was able to catch up.  His back was still rigid. To say he was starting to scare would be an understatement. I am about to pee my pants.

“I don’t want you alone with him. Whenever you are with him I want to be there,” Jack said still not looking at me. The doors to the elevation opened and we stepped in.

“You might want to recheck your voice, you almost sound like you care,” I told him. I wanted to hit myself for saying that. He had to care about me at least a little bit if he keeping me from Zane and his boss.

“Alana I have always cared for you. Do you think you would be alive right now if I didn’t care about you?”  I stayed quiet and got out of the elevation. This is a conversation that should not be disgusted in an elevated.

“Let’s get coffee?” I asked as we stepped into the cold air. My arms wrapped around my stomach trying to hold some heat in.  My bear arms not doing a good job of keep heat in. I looked over at Jack and became jealous as he wore the long sleeve not flinching or shaking at the cold wind. Jack looked down at me and nodded.

“Ok, Miss. coffee lover. Where do we get coffee?” Jack asked.  I pointed across the street to the little café. He nodded and we made our way there.  I felt relief as we walked in, the café is heated.

“Go sit down, I will order,” Jack said.  I nodded and found a both that was in the corner and far away from the door. I slid into the old booth and laid my head on the wall. I looked around the café noticing the home feeling it had.  I looked at the counter where Jack is. The worked there was openly flirting with him.  I felt anger as I watched them. I couldn’t tell if jack was flirting back or not.

“My friend gonna be here tomorrow,” he told me as he slid in the booth.

“Who?” I asked.

“Damon. He is a MMA fighter. He gonna teach you how to fight.”

“I don’t need to be taught how to fight.” Jack slid my coffee over to me. I glared at it as I saw Call me 6768907000 on it.  “I think this one is for you.” I slid the coffee over to him.

“Nah, I’m not interested,” He told me staring into my eyes. I rolled my eyes and took a slip of it. The hot liquid burned my throat making my body feel warm. I groaned and I tasted the coffee. Definitely the best I have ever had.  Jack laughed at me. I glared at him.

“What kind is this?”

“It’s a secret.”

“Mhhh,” I said rubbing my chin, “Maybe I will have Zane take me here and he can order me astonishing coffee.” I knew bring up Zane’s name would piss him off. I couldn’t help the smirk that came to my lips as he glared at me.

“Fine it’s cookie dough,” Jack said pouting like a five year old. I let out a little giggle and slapped a hand over my mouth. I never giggle! What is this boy doing to me? Jack smiled at me.

“See you don’t need Zane you have me who can make you laugh and get you amazing coffee,” he told me.  I laughed at him again.

“Ok. Only you can get me coffee,” I teased him.

“Good,” he said. I felt like there was a double meaning about our conversation but I just let it alone.

We sat in silence as we drank our coffee. Every ones and a while I would sneak a look at him. I looked outside as people walked around in warm cloth. I looked down at my own cloth. A tank with yoga pants. Not warm at all.

I sighed as I watched and mom and daughter walk past the window, they are both laugh are something the little girl said. The little girl dressed in a jacket with hat and mittens. I couldn’t help but smile at both of them. My mother use to do the same thing. At first sadness hit but it soon turned into anger.

It’s been two weeks since that happened and we haven’t done anything. The boys say they have a plan but I got a feeling that they don’t. I huffed as I watched they smile at the man playing guitar on the side walk. They through money into his case and kept walking.

“Ready?” Jack asked. He now stood in front of the table. I looked down at the coffee I had finished and nodded my head. The last thing I wanted to do was go out there in this freezing weather. I frowned as I shot another look outside as the wind pushed trash across the street.

We both walked over to the trash and threw our shit away and walked into the cold weather. My body started shivering like crazy. I bet my lips had turned blue and I haven’t even been out here for more than a minute.

“Come here,” Jack said. I was by his side in secants. His arm wrapped around my waist bring me closer to him. I didn’t think we could get any closer. I knew my cheeks are blaze red now and not just from the wind but because Jack is holding me.

To be honest I like Jack, a lot. I noticed that today when that girl was flirting with him. I’ve never felt jealousy like that before. It was unreal. But there is one thing in the back of my mind. Jack is a gangster and I’m just the girl who mother was killed by his boss and my dad is his lawyer.

“What are you thinking about?” Jack asked as we stopped in front of our hotel door. The paint was staring to peel off the door.

“My mother,” I grunted, “When are we gonna go after him?”

“When the time is right,” he said with a hard look on his face. I started to shake my head and open my mouth but Jack slammed his mouth onto mine. I kissed him back and pulled my arms up to his neck as he put his other arm around my waist. My mouth is exploding with fireworks.
