"Ahh dang it, that's my 4th one in the last two months!" I groan as I roll out of bed. I looked at the pieces of my alarm clock as it sat on my floor. Why do I always have to break these? Dad is gonna kill me. Nevertheless I get out of the bed and head to the bathroom to get ready for school.
Today is my birthday, I am turning 16. I should be happy because today I'm supposed to meet my mate. A soulmate. I walk to my bathroom that is connected to my room and do my daily routine. Once I get out of the shower I walk to my closet and pick out my outfit for the day. I decided to wear something a little cuter considering it my birthday and could possibly find the love of my life today. Once I put my clothes on I put on some mascara, and some lip gloss. After one last check in the mirror I grabbed my bag and headed down stairs.
'Hey Jada you ready for today?' I ask my wolf.
'Yeah I just want to go to school and try to find my mate' she replies enthusiastically.
I chuckle to myself as I walked into the kitchen to meet my parents and brother. With my sister being a cheerleader and all she has already left so she could go to morning practice.
"Good morning," I greet them with a small smile.
"Good morning. Happy birthday!" They all say in unison.
We sit down, eat breakfast, and talk. Keith left before me so that he could go pick up a couple of his friends before school. He was trying to get to school to find out all that he missed. He has been at our grandparents house for almost two weeks helping them rebuild their house.
It was about time for me to head over to get Alex. Alex and I walk to school most days. It gave us time to rant about life before we had to go deal with the annoying people of school. I kiss my parents on the cheek and walk to the pack house to get Alex. As I walked up to the pack house I saw that she was sitting on the porch waiting for me.
"Hey baby girl," I call out as I stand about 10 feet from her. Her head snaps as she hears my voice and a large smile breaks out on her face. She quickly jumps off the steps and runs towards me, throwing herself at me.
"Happy birthday honey bear!" She squeals in my ear while hugging me. I hug back and thank her. Once she pulls away, she throws one of her arms over my shoulder as we start walking to school.
"Took you long enough you big baby." She throws a wink my way. I laugh in responses. Alex is only about a week older than me. We had a sleepover to celebrate.
15 mins later
Alex and I have made it to school and there were still people in the parking lot.
"Hey I will meet you at my locker," I say to Alex walking towards my locker she nods and walks off to hers.
I walk past my sister but she ignores me and keeps walking. Jen was talking about whatever gossip was going around the school today with her friends. I got my books and closed my locker just in time as Alex walked over to me. We walk to our first class and sit near the middle and continue our conversation until the bell rings.
Time Skip: lunch time
Lunch was my second to last class with gym being my last. The day just seems to be dragging along. Jada has been anxiously pacing around my head trying to figure out where and who our mate was.
'You know we might not even find him today.' I say to her.
'We will. I just know we will.' She growls back at me.
I just laughed and put my stuff in my locker and headed to lunch. Lunch went along like normal. I get my food, sit at the table by the window, and read. I could hear people coming in and out of the cafeteria doors, but I didn't look up until I smelt it. The intoxicating aroma that could only mean one thing.
'Mate! Mate! Mate!' Jada yells in my head.
I raise my eyes from my book only to be met with the golden eyes of the last person I'd ever expected, Ace. The soon to be alpha, and my ex best friend.
"Mate," we say in unison.
After getting over the initial shock, a smug smile creeps its way onto his face. He turns on his heels and walks out of the cafeteria, with me hot on heels. I follow him down the hallway and he disappears around the corner. As I turn the corner to follow him, I am grabbed and pushed against a wall. I come face to face with Ace has he cages me in with his arms. As he looks deep in my violet eyes, the next words that leave his mouth break my heart,
"I, Ace Beckham Knight, soon to be alpha of the Midnight Howlers reject you, Adrianna Bay Flame as my mate and future Luna," he says with such a smug tone.
As much as I wanted to deny it, the immense pain that shot through me was unbearable and my wolf was crying out in my head. But I wasn't going to show him that, like hell he deserved that satisfaction. I put on a blank face and replied,
"I don't care," his smug smirk falls.
"What!" his voice filled with disbelief and a hint of anger. In that moment I could see the cracks in his little facade.
"I said I don't care. What, do you want me to cry? Beg for you to take me as your mate? Well, I hate to burst your bubble, not happening!" I didn't wait for his response as I used his shock against him and pushed him away from me. I headed home needing to be anywhere beside that school. By the time I got home I had tears running down my face.
"Honey, what happened!?" My mom exclaims as she rushed to my side, my dad following her.
I explain to them what happened. My mom looked sad but mad at the same time as she holds me in her arms. My dad was holding my hand, trying his hardest to stay calm by my side but he was shaking with so much anger. By the time I finished the doorbell rang three times telling me that Alex was at my door. I opened it with puffy red eyes to see Alex in the same state as me. There was a new Jeep behind her that didn't belong to anyone in my family.
"What's wrong baby girl?" I ask as I pull her into my arms and into the house.
"Keith. Keith is what happened. He was my mate and I caught him making out with any other girl. When he finally acknowledged my presence, he just smirked and went back to kissing her. I rejected him." She explained between sobs. "I'm leaving. I don't think I can be around him everyday with girls hanging on him. I didn't want to leave without telling you so I just came. My parents know and they understand," she explains. I nodded and I was about to respond when I was interrupted.
"And we think you should go with her. Go and pack your bags," My mom's shaky voice says to us. I looked at my parents with wide eyes. My eyes filled with uncertainty.
"It's okay to go, it would be best. You've been through a lot and we believe that it would be good for you to get away." My dad says in a calm soothing tone.
I give them a quick hug and run up to my room and pack my bags with all the things that I need. I grab the money I had been saving up. I ran back downstairs and back into my parents arms. The first thing that happens as I pull away is I am handed some keys and some more money.
"What are these for?" I questioned the keys.
"Your new bike!" My dad says with a smile on his face. I had been taught at a young age how to ride dirt bikes and motorcycles. I always wanted one.
I smiled and hugged them for the last time and said goodbye. I walked out and found one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever. A black and gold bike next to Alex's black jeep. I throw my bags inside the back of Alex's car, and get on my bike. I wave at my parents one last time while Alex backs out the driveway. Alex has always been by my side and now we will start this heartbreaking journey together.
