~Aliyah's POV

Upon arriving back at my house, I immediately took my heels off at the front door, carrying them all the way to my room. I set them in my closet before going in the kitchen and taking an Aspirin.

Afterwards, I went into the bathroom and grabbed a couple of makeup remover wipes and began to wipe off my makeup in the mirror.

"Home so soon?" I hear Brooklyn semi-yell from her room. I checked the time on my phone, and it read 11:25.

"Yeah."  I answered. After wiping off my makeup I took a quick shower, brushed my teeth, and got ready for bed.

I climbed into bed, plugging my phone on it's charger and sitting it on my nightstand. As I got under my covers, my mind trailed to Jayden and how upset he was as he drove me home. It may have been a bit dramatic in my eyes, but I still cared for him and wouldn't be able to stand myself if he went to bed upset, especially because of me.

With the charger still connected I grabbed my phone off of my nightstand and sent Jayden a text.

to: jayden❤️
hey, im sorry about tonight. you were right, i should've just let it go. maybe i can make it up to you sometime? goodnight j.

Almost immediately, the three typing dots appeared, indicating he was typing his reply.

from: jayden❤️
It's all good, you handled it the way you had to. And of course, goodnight baby-girl.

I blushed as I placed my phone back on the nightstand and pulled my covers up onto my body. Jayden was special, and that was something I just wasn't willing to lose.

~Kaylan's POV

It was around 11, and I hadn't heard from Chresanto since he left to visit his family in L.A, which was fine. He had things to do and take care of before we settled down, as did I.

I had informed Dominic of my pregnancy earlier, and he wasn't too happy about it. We weren't official, but there was potential with him and I lost sight of that when Roc came into the picture. Dominic didn't deserve to be dumped that way, but Chresanto is the love of my life and I would do damn near anything for us.

It was around 10:30. I sat on my bed with my laptop on my lap, and headphones in as Drake's Views played on shuffle. I grabbed the notepad and pen that sat adjacent to me on my bed, uncapping the pen before titling my to-do list for the next couple of months.

I looked up the necessities and things to do regarding the pregnancy, since I didn't really know the first thing about carrying a child. I plan to tell my family soon, but knowing my judgmental mother, she just might have a stroke as soon as I announce it.

I found a pretty useful article on first pregnancies and bookmarked it on Safari before beginning to write down the information.

•Find A Family Physician/Obstetrician

•Start taking prenatal vitamins

•Schedule first prenatal appointment

•Double-check health insurance plan

avoid hazardous/uncooked foods

I involuntarily sighed while I wrote that one, knowing I'd have to give up going to my favorite sushi place downtown.

"Sushi, Kaylan? Really? You're having a baby, a little bundle of joy! I'm pretty sure that beats nine months of no sushi juuust by a little." I rolled my eyes at my subconscious and kept taking notes, hoping to be as prepared as can be to start this journey with the one I love.

~Aliyah's POV

"If we,
tried that we could be
somewhere the climate
is warm, long as you-"

I let out a groan as I blindly reached for my phone. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Jeremih, but it was 3 in the morning and I wasn't in the mood to hear my phone singing about how there's no oui without you and I.

I opened my eyes, damn near blinded by the bright light of the phone screen. The incoming call was from an unknown number.

"H-hello?" I yawned after pressing accept and putting the phone up to my ear.

"Aliyah? Is this you?" The familiar voice on the other end spoke.

"Yes...who is this?" I managed to croak as I wiped the sleep from my eyes.

"It's Craig..." I looked at the phone screen, confused. "Who?"

"Prodigy," he replied. I smacked my lips in annoyance. "Why didn't you just say that?"

"I dunno, I haven't been feeling 'Prodigy' lately. I guess with-"

"Woahwoahwoah hold on," I pause, pinching the bridge of my nose. "Give me one good reason why you thought it would be okay to call me at three..." I checked the digital clock by the television. "sixteen in the morning. And if it's not a good enough reason get ready to square up."

He softly chuckled. "It's a good reason, I promise. I have a proposition for you."

"A proposition? That's what I'm losing sleep over?!"

"Well, yeah. But it's-"

"You're insane, you know that?"

"Damn, Aliyah. Just listen!" I roll my eyes and purse my lips, having no other choice but to do as he said.

"Anyways, I heard you was working at Safeway...I also heard you got rejected by Sony. So, I got a job for ya." I sit up, suddenly alert.

"A job? For me?" A protective instinct kicks in and I drop the excitement in my voice. "What makes you think I need anything from you? Do I look like a charity case?"

I hear him sigh on the other end.
"That's not how I meant it, Aliyah. If anything, it'd be you doing the charity."

"What's the job? And how much?" I yawn, wiping the sleep from my eyes as I tried to focus on the conversation.

"I want you to be my producer." I too the phone from my ear and scanned the receiver, the screen, and even the charger hole because it must be broken.

"I'm taking this phone to T-Mobile first thing tomorrow, my service is acting up. Hello? Can you repeat that?"

"I said I want you to be my producer..."

"Okay so it's definitely not my phone. Uh," I rubbed the temples oh my head, trying to make sense of this. "You want me to produce your music? Like, music that you sing? Is this a joke?"

"Okay, Aliyah. I know it's like, 3:30 so meet me up at the cafe right by the Plaza tomorrow at noon and we can discuss it, alright? Please?"

"Alright, okay. Goodnight." I yawn, pressing the end call button before placing my phone back on it's charger, wondering if this was dream? Or maybe Prod was just wasted off his ass?

***

Turns out, it wasn't a dream.
And Prodigy wasn't even a little bit intoxicated.

The next morning, I received a call from him confirming our lunch meeting. Once I was ready, I drove down to the cafe, where Prodigy was sitting at a table outside. He was dressed in a white tee, black jeans, and tan yeezy boosts. Of course, he had the infamous black shades on.

As for me, I was wearing a brown button-down, black leggings, and all-white adidas superstars.

"You've got some nerve calling me up at 3 in the morning." I jokingly greet him as I took my seat across from his.

"My bad, I just couldn't sleep until I at least pitched the idea to you."

"Mhm." The waitress appeared and handed us our menus as she introduced herself as Caitlin.

"Can I start you guys off with something to drink?" She smiles.

"A sprite." Prodigy says, as do I.

"So, what makes me worthy of being your producer, Mr. Mindless Behavior man?" I spoke as I scanned the menu.

"Love the sarcasm, really. Anyways, I see a win-win situation in our midsts. You're unemployed, I'm unemployed. I'm in need-"

"Pause. I'm not unemployed." I state, not moving my eyes from the menu.

"Okay, sorry. I'm in need of someone who can productively help me out with a few ideas I got, and who better than you?"

"Someone actually qualified? A record label, perhaps? Ooh, the Wonton Tacos sound really good." I say as I gaze at the example picture of the tacos on the menu.

"I can't go to a record label, Aliyah. How would it look if I just showed up like, Oh the group I was previously in just got dropped, so I'm dropping them too. I'm all yours, Capitol! It would spread like fuckin' wildfire."

"And what's wrong with th-" A sudden realization hits me in the middle of my sentence. "They don't know, do they? That's why you want me? Because I'm not some big music label that would announce to the world and to your best friends that you're going solo..."

Prod let out a sigh as he ran his hands through his hair. "It's just a thought, I don't know if I am yet, so I definitely don't want them hear about it. I just want to get a feel for it, yanno? Working with them is so damn tiring. You got Ray Ray, who just waits to be told what to do and doesn't contribute, and Roc, who gets distracted with that schoolgirl-ass diary every ten minutes and can't stay on beat to save his life, and holy fuck don't let me get started on Princeton."

"Okay, alright. I get it." I signal for him to pause his rant. The waitress comes with our drinks and we thank her before ordering. I choose the grilled chicken Wonton Tacos with a side of mozzarella sticks and he orders a cheeseburger with fries. She takes our orders and collects our menus.

"The way I see it, you have a bigger problem than I do, and being the selfless, kind-hearted person I am, I'm willing to help you out." I place my elbows on the table and intertwine my fingers. "But as you said, this is a job. So, what's the pay?" I ask as I take a sip of my drink.

"Well, I was thinking $750 a week, just for starters. But that means everyday from eight to two in Mike's studio, actually puttin' in work. And you've got to keep this under wraps, that's the most important."

I took a second to think it over. $750 weekly beats the minimum wage I was making at Safeway by a landslide, but there's no way this will go over smoothly. I can already feel it.

"How do you plan to be at the studio everyday from eight to two without your boys on your ass? Did you think about that?"

"That's a me problem, you just worry about you problems, Ali." Shit, don't mind if I do.

"What happens if you decide to go through with leaving Mindless Behavior?"

"Then we take the project to whichever label is willing to offer us the best deal." A lightbulb goes off in my head. If I bring solo Prodigy to Capitol, especially with already perfected material, there's no doubt Don Deveux would give me my job back, and maybe even a promotion! And before I know it, I could be making enough to live in a penthouse suite, with a view overlooking the ocean, and a closet full of Louboutin, Michael Kors, Yves Saint Laurent, you name it. Tears almost flood my eyes just thinking about it.

Prodigy snaps me out of my daydream. "So, do we have a deal?"

I can't help the sly smile spreading across my lips as I think about how much will come out of this. Hell, I may as well put a bow on Prod's head and call it Christmas in August.

"When do we start?"

(a/n) WE LIIIIIT.
