So I've decided this is the last chapter! I will upload an epilogue in the next few days, I'm also in the middle of planning a sequel. I'll probably post the first chapter in the next week or so!

So here is the last chapter of Did You Have To Be My Mate?

Carmen’s POV
Graduation had finally come. Isabella and Maria had come over to get ready with me, I’d told them about Jake attacking me and they’d been shocked but they’d been more happy when I told them that Jay was coming back home soon.
“We told you, at least you won’t be all boring and depressed!” Isabella exclaimed, I ducked my head down in embarrassment,
“Was I that bad?” I said meekly, they both nodded,
“But we understand any of us would go mad if our mates were taken away from us.” As we walked downstairs I heard a familiar voice that I’d missed, I walked as quickly as I could into the living room. Mike, Alex and my mum were all sat down on the couch,
“Mum?” I ran up to her and hugged her fiercely she hugged me back with the same fierceness,
“I missed you.” My voice cracked a bit at the end, I’d been up all night tossing and turning wondering if she would come for my graduation or not. I pulled back from the hug to look at her, she had tears streaming down her face and an apologetic look in her eyes,
“I’m sorry I said those things to you, I was angry. Please forgive me.” I hugged her again,
“I forgive you, are you coming to my graduation?” I crossed my fingers hoping she’d say yes,
“Of course, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” I wiped my damp eyes trying not to smudge the make up my friends had spent hours on,
“Let’s go people!” Alex shouted from the corner, I rolled my eyes at his outburst.
The school hall had been decorated with the school colours red and gold, there was a large banner that stretched across the length of the hall that said,
“Goodbye seniors!”
We took our seats at the front of the hall; I nervously watched the hall fill up with the friends and family of the graduates, my eyesight was trained to the back of the hall where the door was. I was waiting for Jay maybe he’d come back today. Soon enough the ceremony started our head teacher called out the list of names and then my turn came,
“Carmen Sanchez!” I stood up and walked across the stage, I could hear the shouts of Alex, Mike, mum, Isabella and Maria from behind me and couldn’t help but smile. I took my diploma and sat back down again.
The speeches came and went and then the cap throwing came, I’d officially finished high school! I said goodbyes to the people I knew I wouldn’t see for a long time and thank you to my teachers.
Mike’s POV
I left soon after the ceremony finished so I could get Carmen’s surprise ready. Alex and I had planned a small dinner and sleepover with her two friends, as soon as I opened the door I smelt his scent, I walked up the stairs and into the office,
“So you finally decided to show up?” I asked Jay,
“I just came back to say I’m leaving and I’m giving you the responsibility of the Alpha position.” I nearly died of shock. For a couple of seconds all I could do was open and close my mouth, Jay was leaving and giving me my title back!
“Why? Why after all this time?” I asked, he gave a small shrug and started walking around the room,
“When I was away I finally realised that being Alpha wasn’t meant for me, I want to be able to do things and not worry about responsibility all the time.”
“Where are you going?”
“I’m moving to the Los Lobos pack.”
Carmen’s POV
As I opened the front door his smelt hit me like a ton of rocks, I dropped my bag and gown on the floor and sprinted up the stairs and into the office. There he was standing, he looked better than the last time I saw him, his short brown hair, and his handsome face. I ran up to him and wrapped my whole body around him,
“I missed you!” Jay gently pushed himself away from me, my forehead crumpled in confusion,
“We need to talk.” His expression was serious, too serious. I looked at Mike who looked like he’d got the biggest shock in his life but I didn’t have time to worry about him, I stumbled out of the room and into our bedroom where Jay was waiting. The air around felt heavy, thick and uncomfortable,
“I’m leaving the pack, Mike’s going to take over.” My eyebrows shot up in surprise, this wasn’t what I was expecting but it was better than him leaving me, right?
“When do we leave?” I started moving around the room packing, I was planning on spending summer break in California, where I’d been accepted for college but if wouldn’t mind spending time with Jay.
“There is no we. I’m leaving by myself to the Los Lobos pack.” The items I had in my hand clattered noisily onto the floor, my head felt light and my hands started shaking.
“What do you mean?” my voice came out shakily, I couldn’t help but asking that dumb question. Maybe my ears had heard wrong.
“I’m leaving and I’m moving to the Los Lobos pack.” I sank down on my bed, my mind was going into overdrive but at the same time I was blank. How could he possibly have it in him to leave his pack, his brother, me for the enemy pack?!
“What about us?” I looked over to Jay who was leaning against my wall with a blank,
“It was fun while it lasted.” I laughed, I couldn’t help it but it sounded hysterical. Tears were streaming down my face from my laughter, I didn’t know whether my tears were from laughing or crying; maybe they were from both.
“How did I not see the signs?” I spoke out loud more to myself than Jay; I sucked in a breath and continued, surprisingly I felt calm but the sting of rejection was still there.
“The time when you lied to me about the pack meeting…” and then it hit me,
“Tell me something Jay, do you remember the time I called you and a girl was speaking in the background?” I waited for him to affirm that he remembered, he gave a nod so I continued,
“Were you cheating on me?” I looked into his eyes and waited for him to answer,
“Yes.”
“Stupid, stupid girl!” I muttered underneath my breath, how could I have been so naïve, I’d expected Jay to change for me but I had been kidding myself, I should’ve listened to my mum. I laughed again. Maybe if I had just listened to my mum, I wouldn’t be here but then again I didn’t regret my time with Jay.
“Did you really love me or was it just a game?” my eyes had started to tear now,
“I did, or at least I thought I did.” His face remained a mask of hostility and calmness,
I stood up and slowly walked over to Jay, it felt like all my energy had been sucked dry. I hugged Jay tightly, memorizing him for the last time, the tingles, the warmth, the smell all of it.
“I don’t regret deciding to be with you.” I detached myself from him and swept a piece of his black hair away from his eyes; I lent up and pressed a firm kiss on his lips. He didn’t respond but it was ok,
“Thanks for everything.” I stepped back from him and left my room, as I got to the door I remembered something,
“Oh and Jay?” he turned around to the sound of my voice,
“I love you.” No matter how bad he’d hurt me those three words felt right coming out of my mouth and I knew that he’d hold a place in my heart for a long time.
