I whispered
To the scars on his skin
I told them they were beautiful
Even though they tear me apart inside
I stare
At the scars on his skin

The scars on his wrist

When we went to the hospital
That I don't think of him differently

Since his scars were healing better
He was starting to live for once
I screamed
When I found him on the floor
All the scars reopened
A note taped to the bedroom door
I spoke
Of his scars as they lowered him in the ground
Of kind words when his mother held me close
Of the good times when I looked at his face for the last time...
I remembered
Him when I went to the doctors
Three weeks later
Your were going to be a father
I longed
For your touch when I held him for the first time
His hands are just like mine
But the eyes, as blue as the sky
Just like yours
