Yuuichiro's P.O.V
I see the same scene every time I close my eyes.
"Hold on, Yuu-chan. Jeez, it's mean of you to leave your family behind." Mika said as he and Mayu both ran up to me. I turned around. Mika was always going on and on about this family thing, and it irritated me.
"Moron, I don't have a family..." I started to say, but I was cut off when Mika suddenly jumped on me, forcing me to give him a piggyback ride. Mayu was behind us, laughing.
Her sweet...beautiful laugh...
"Oh, shush, shush. It's already been decided that everybody from the Hyakuya orphanage is family." Mika said, laughing. I groaned and looked away.
"Hey, you..." I grumbled. Mayu continued to giggle. I couldn't help but blush.
I remember how the other kids would run up to me, smiling.
"Aren't we family? Aren't we family, Yuu-Nii?" They would always ask. They would always look so excited. I couldn't help but laugh and pat them on the head.
"Jeez, you guys are such a pain." I said as I looked over at Mayu and Mika. I smiled, feeling really happy.
Everytime, I see the smiling faces of my friends, comrades, my precious family, and then...
I never thought....I never thought my happiness...would end like this....
"DON'T TAKE MY FAMILY AWAY FROM ME AGAIN!!"
I heard Mayu screaming as she reached her arm out, tears streaming down her cheeks.
I see them all being murdered by a vampire...
Mika slowly started to get up off the ground, reaching out to both Mayu and I. "R-Run...Yuu-chan..Mayu-chan..." He said, tears falling from his eyes. I wanted to help him, but I couldn't move.
Mayu tried to reach out to Mika. "Mika-kun...!!" She exclaimed. That's when the noble, that had killed all of the others, came up behind Mika. He smiled evily before grabbing Mika, sinking his fangs into him.
My eyes widened in horror as I watched my best friend being killed right before my eyes. Mayu was screaming, covering her ears.
Mika weakly reached out to me. "Hurry...run...away..grab Mayu-chan..and run..." He said, his eyes starting to dull over.
"Yuu...chan..." Mika said weakly. Then, his body suddenly went limp and his breathing was silenced. My best friend....was dead...
Tears spilled from my eyes as I felt a mix of anger and sadness start to form. The only thing that could be heard in the room was my own screams of pain and sadness.
I looked up at the night sky. To this day, even after four years, if I close my eyes the scene still comes back to haunt me. I continued to look around at all the broken and cracked roads and buildings that once used to be normal.
It all changed since that day eight years ago...
I felt someone slap me on my back, leaving a small stinging pain. I winced and turned around, ready to fight if it was a vampire.
"Oi, baka-Yuu! Get your head out of the clouds already will ya!"
I gritted my teeth. "Shut up already will ya..shortstack."
Mayu's P.O.V
It had been four years since Yuu and I escaped from the clutches of those damn vampires...and yet...he still couldn't call me anything else but freaking shortstack!!
"Who the hell are you callin' shortstack?! Must I remind you that I have grown since four years ago? This is why I call you baka-Yuu now." I stated, crossing my arms. Yuu went to say something back, but a loud rumbling cut him off.
My eyes darted towards a billboard to the left of me. I grabbed my sword, already on the defensive.
"It's coming...and fast..."
Suddenly, the billboard exploded into pieces as a monster charged through. Two of our other comrades came through also, landing right next to Yuu and I.
I drew my sword quickly. "Damn, it's a "Four horsemen of John."!" One of our comrades shouted. I gritted my teeth.
"Damn...this thing is ugly!"
"Private Hyakuya, Private Shiranui. What are you doing here? You have to leave immediately." Our other comrade stated. I put my sword back in its sheath and nodded. "Yes sir! Come on, Yuu-kun." I said as I grabbed Yuu's arm.
Yuu ripped his arm from my grasp. "Huh? Leave? Who are you talking to?" He asked, turning towards our comrades.
"Oh no...not again..."
"I live for nothing but revenge on those blood suckers. What am I gonna do if I can't handle a small fry like this monster?!" Yuu said, drawing his sword. He started charging right at it, catching the monsters attention.
"You stupid moron!!"
I gritted my teeth and drew my sword again. "Dammit!! You stupid idiot!!!" I screamed as I charged after him. I wasn't about ready to let Yuu die. He was the only family I had left...and I wasn't about ready to lose anymore of my family.
"That damn kid again!.." One of our comrades said, sounding pretty annoyed. The other nodded. "One day, his actions are going to get that poor girl killed.." He said, shaking his head.
The Four horsemen of John swung it's giant tentacle like arms at Yuu, in an attempt to crush him. Yuu dodged, hitting the monster with his sword. I dashed towards it and swung my sword, slicing it's flesh open.
I shuddered as its blood rained down on me, staining my uniform red.
"Great! Just great!! It takes a while to get blood stains like this out of my clothes!!"
The Four horsemen of John let out a blood curdling screech as it swung at me again. I blocked to the best of my ability, but I didn't block all of its attacks. I got knocked backward, losing my sword.
"Dammit! This is why I didn't want a sword...I can't maneuver it correctly..."
I regained my balance quickly. I quickly grabbed my sword and dodged the monsters attack again.
Yuu came out of nowhere and charged at the Four horsemen of John, dodging all its remaining attacks before slicing it in half, finishing it off for good.
I cringed as more blood rained everywhere. The monsters body fell to the ground with a thud, making the ground shake.
I looked over at Yuu and gritted my teeth.
"That dumbass..."

* Timeskip: the next day *
"This is a load of crap." I heard Yuu mumble behind me. I didn't say anything to him. I wasn't going to talk to him for the rest of the day. Because of his recklessness in battle, and the fact that I decided to be reckless myself for trying to help his ass, we both got suspened.
"That stupid idiot....baka-Yuu!!"
I listened to the teacher as he wrote notes on the chalkboard infront of him.
"What's a military boy like me gonna do in a normal school?" Yuu mumbled again, causing me to grit my teeth. I grabbed my pencil and started jotting down all the words that spilled out of my mind.
"Maybe if you weren't being a reckless idiot, like you always are on the battlefield, we wouldn't be in this mess right now! Use your head already, baka-Yuu!!"
Mayu-
I crumpled up the piece of notebook paper and tossed it behind me, right where Yuu was sitting. I heard it hit the desk with a light smack. I then heard Yuu uncrumple it and mumble in anger. Soon after, a piece of paper bounced off my head and then hit the desk.
I uncrumpled it and read it.
"Who are you calling a reckless idiot?! For your information, if it weren't for me being a so called "reckless idiot" you wouldn't be standing, or breathing, or throwing crumpled up pieces of paper at my forehead! You should say thank you sometime...shortstack!
Yuu-
I growled and crumpled up the piece of paper again, this time in anger. I started writing again, the sound of the paper being scratched violently filled my ears.
"Seriously....in the eight years we knew each other...you still can't think of anything else to call me? That's just sad! Anyway, when we get unsuspended, can you actually use your brain and listen to people, or is it too damaged from Guren kicking you in the head..?"

Mayu-
I crumpled it and threw it behind me, this time it hit Yuu in the forehead. I giggled as he uncrumpled it. I heard the paper being ripped, signaling that Yuu was pissed off. I couldn't help but be amused by this.
Suddenly, Yuu shot up out of his chair, disturbing the classroom. "IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY SHORTSTACK, SAY IT TO MY FACE, NOT ON A PIECE OF PAPER!" He shouted. I rolled my eyes and whistled, ignoring him. "Not my fault we got suspend~~~ed" I taunted purposely.
Our teacher turned toward the both of us, his eyebrow twitching in frustration. "Hyakuya Yuuichiro, Shiranui Mayu. The both of you stop arguing this instant and pay attention." He scolded.
I nodded, shooting Yuu a small glare. Yuu rolled his eyes and sat down, automatically looking back out the window.
Before he did though, he shot our teacher a glare. "Ah?! What's with the attitude?! I'll have you suspended if you're gonna mock the teacher." Our teacher stated, catching Yuu's attention.
"What?! You'll suspend me? Seriously?!" Yuu exclaimed, getting back out of his seat. He then bowed to our teacher respectfully. "Then, please do that." Our teacher didn't look quiet happy. Also, neither was I.
"I swear to god...I am gonna slam my head on my desk if he does not sit back down right now..."
"Quit fooling around! You're completely mocking me!" Our teacher said, slowly losing his temper and patients.
I heard somebody me clear their throat and I turned around. There was a girl who looked about my age. She had long purple hair that was tied up into a pony tail. Her eyes were a pretty light brown color.
"She looks about my age...I wonder who she is.."
Yuu turned around, looking a little annoyed. "What do you want? Who the hell are you?" He asked rudely. She didn't say anything, she just held up her notebook for him to read. I looked over Yuu's shoulder curiously, silently ready what she wrote.
" I'm Shinoa Hiiragi. I'm an army surveillance officer."
I was surprised. I had no idea she was a surveillance officer. I sighed.
"I bet Guren planned this...that's kinda sneaky..."
Yuu sat back down, looking at Shinoa. Shinoa turned her notebook again and began writing down something else. When she was done, she quickly turned it back towards Yuu and I.
"If your actions seem uncooperative, I will report you to the army and have your suspension extended."
My jaw dropped. I didn't know if I was either pissed off or upset. I didn't want this suspension to be freaking suspended?
"W-What the hell?!! If Yuu-kun has one more outburst...I'm gonna pop him upside the head!"
I heard Yuu reading what was on the notebook silently to himself, before he shot up out of his chair. "Huh?! What does that mean?!!" He shouted, disturbing the classroom once again.
Our teacher turned towards Yuu, his patience gone. "Hyakuya! If you keep interrupting my class---" He started to say, but Yuu cut him off. "Damn it!" Yuu shouted, causing our teacher to throw his teachers guide on the floor. "Damn it?!!" He asked/shouted, his eye starting to twitch.
"I am this close...to smacking Yuu-kun in the back of the head...with a textbook...!!"
"Cooperation." Shinoa repeated as she pointed to the word with her pencil. Yuu looked at both her and the teacher, before sighing and finally sitting down.
I sighed in relief and frustration. Once our teacher calmed down, he continued with his lesson. "You know, this suspension will continue to last until you make friends." Shinoa said, right out of the blue.
Yuu and I looked over at each other and then back at Shinoa. "Um..are you blind or something? Can't you see I already have a friend?" Yuu stated, pointing at me. I elbowed him. "Yuu-kun, you don't have to be so rude." I stated. I looked at shinoa.
"I'm sorry, what he means is that we are already friends. So, wouldn't that mean that our suspension should already be lifted?" I asked, hoping that it was a yes.
Shinoa shook her head. "For the suspension to actually be lifted, you have to make some friends. So, just having one doesn't count, sorry." She said, causing my hopes to drop. Yuu looked at her in disbelief. "Wh...what?"
Shinoa smiled. "Please work hard to make friends." She said. Yuu leaned back in his chair, his head hitting the window lightly.
I put my head down on my desk, closing my eyes tightly. In my opinion, I didn't need other friends. I was fine with just having Yuu as my friend. I really didn't want to get close to anybody else...I didn't want to have to go through he pain of losing anyone else.
"I don't want to see anybody else die...I don't want to relive watching my parents die...I don't want to relive watching...watching..."
I gripped the sides of my arms tightly, holding back my tears. I kept seeing Mika's death everytime I closed my eyes or thought of ever making new friends. It was like..my past was trying to haunt me.
I sighed and pushed my emotions down. I slowly started drifting off to sleep, remembering back to four years ago when Yuu and I had escaped from the vampires.

* flashback: four years ago *
I continued to cry, my legs starting to grow numb from kneeling in the snow. Yuu, who was currently looking out at the ruins of the city we used to call home, turned towards the man with black hair.
"What's going on?! I thought the human race was annihilated!" He said, causing the man infront of us to look at us in confusion. "The human race was annihilated? Did you hear that from the vampires?" He asked. I nodded my head as I wiped my eyes.
"I-I always thought it was true 'cause....I saw almost e-everybody die.." I whimpered. The man with black hair shook his head. "Well, it's true that the virus reduced the world's population by 90%, and thanks to the trumpets of the apocalypse, weird monsters started roaming around the earth." I froze, fear starting to come over me once again.
"N-No...."
"But the human race isn't that weak." He said as he smiled. "The resurrection of mankind has just begun." I looked up at him, completely curious of what he meant by that.
"Ressurrection...of mankind? What does...he mean by that?"
Suddenly, I started to feel some sort of warmth in my heart. I looked down at the ground and clutched my chest.
"What is this feeling suddenly...I haven't felt anything like this in years..." I mumbled, closing my eyes. I smiled slightly as I realized what it was.
"So...this is what they call hope..."
Yuu looked up at the man curiously. "Ressurrection?" The man with black hair nodded. "Of course, we plan to make our organization number one. We gather the remnants of humanity in order to take control of the whole world." He said, as he removed his cloak.
"Who...who is this man..? What does he mean by "take control of the whole world"?"
"Who are you?" Yuu asked as he stood infront of me protectively as if something bad might happen.
"My name is Guren Ichinose, lieutenant colonel of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army." He said as I looked up at him in surprise.
"D-Did...he just say...demon?"
"Now, if you come with me, you can kill those vampires."Guren said as he handed his cloak to one of the soldiers that was standing next to him.
"Put this on them." He said. The soldier put the cloack around Yuu and I, but Yuu quickly took it off of him and wrapped it around me.
"Y-Yuu-kun...what about you?" I asked, trying to get him to cover himself up as well. Yuu shook his head. "I don't need it. Besides...lady's first." He stated, making sure my head was covered.
I blushed a little and wrapped myself up more. "Thank...you.." I mumbled.
Guren looked at the both of us. "You hate vampires, right?" He asked as I looked down at the ground. The cold of the snow under my legs made them hurt, but I didn't care.
"Yes...I hate them!" Yuu said as he clenched his fists. I looked over at him and I saw hatred and anger in his eyes.
I looked back at the ground and gritted my teeth. The images of my loved ones being killed replayed in my mind.
"I wish they would all just die...." I said, feeling the same rage in my heart.
"I want....I want all of them to just die..."
Guren smiled. "Then, come with me. I will give you all the power you need." He said as he stuck his hand out to us.
And in that moment...I realized that I had to do everything in my power...to protect the people I loved..
* End of flashback *
I woke up to the sound of the bell ringing. I sat up quickly, rubbing my eyes. I paused as I felt tears. They weren't the kind of tears you would get after you yawn, they were the tears I thought that I buried down long ago.
"No! I told myself I wasn't gonna cry anymore! I need to be strong."
I quickly wiped my eyes and stacked up my textbooks.
"I can't show any of my pain and sadness...if I do...
"I won't be able to protect my family."
Yuuichiro's P.O.V
"He says that and then he neglects us for four years?! Baka Guren!" I mumbled as I layed my head down on my desk. I watched as a few of my classmates grabbed their stuff and start to leave.
"Agh, after school activities..."
"Hey, let's go and get some ice cream on our way home."
I sighed. They all were acting as if nothing bad had ever happened and I found that all so stupid. I saw Mayu look at them and roll her eyes. I smirked.
"She may look annoyed and think that their talk is pointless and everything, but I know that she's probably dying to have some again."
I blushed and looked out the window.
"I wonder if she would get upset if I were to get her some..."
"Hold on, I love ice cream too." A farmiliar voice came from the side of me.
"Oh great..not her again.."
"Why not go up to them and say that." Shinoa said, giving me a sly smile. I rolled my eyes. "What's with you? Don't get fresh with me." I said. Shinoa frowned.
"Lieutenant colonel Guren told me that when you were young your family was killed by a vampire, so now you can't engage with others." I saw Mayu flinch as Shinoa mentioned the word family.
"Alright...she needs to stop talking about this.."
"Because if you ever get close to someone, your afraid that you'll lose them again. You're so afraid that you can't make anymore friends or get a girlfriend." She said as she looked at me.
I got up out of my seat and grabbed her by the shoulders. "Hey, quit blabbering about me!" Mayu got up out of her seat and grabbed my arm.
"Yuu-kun, knock it off already will ya!" She protested as she pulled me away from Shinoa. "Well, you were able to "engage"." Shinoa said as she looked at the both of us. I was getting sick and tired of hearing about this "making friends" bull crap.
"Stop saying stupid stuff and tell that idiot to enlist us into the vampire extermination unit. Besides, I already have enough strength to kill them now." I stated. Mayu tugged on my arm. "Come on Yuu-kun, think logically here. What makes you think that Guren....!" She started to say until Shinoa pulled a note out of her bag.
"The lieutenant colonel said you'd say that, so he told me to give you this." She said as I took the note from her. I smiled. "So he does get it." I said as I opened up the folded piece of paper.
I felt a small weight on my shoulder, meaning that Mayu was leaning over me to read what was on the note. I chuckled and started to read.
"We don't need a cherry-boy who can't even make more friends or get a girlfriend in our army. If you think this is annoying, than go make some friends and then introduce them to me. Of course, I'm sure that's impossible for you."
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" Mayu bursted out into laughter and almost fell over. I was so angry beyond words right now. I crumpled up the piece of paper and threw it on the floor.
I grabbed my bag and stormed out of the classroom. "Both of you are mocking me!" I exclaimed as I slammed the door shut. I heard the sound of the door opening again followed by the sound of giggling. I stopped and sighed.
"What's so funny chuckles?!" I asked as Mayu patted me on the back. "Nothing, nothing. I just can't believe Guren would say something that harsh." She said as she followed behind me.
I went to say something, but the sounds of footsteps behind us cut me off. I turned around and sighed as I saw Shinoa walking up behind us.
"Why the heck is she following us...?"
Mayu's P.O.V
"What are you doing? How long are you gonna follow us around for? Isn't this enough?" Yuu asked Shinoa, who was currently putting on her other pair of shoes.
She shook her head. "I'm afraid it isn't. I am your army surveillance officer." She said. Yuu sighed in annoyance. I grabbed my other pair of shoes out of my locker and put them on. Shinoa looked at Yuu and I sternly.
"Any army regulation that is violated will be reported to the lieutenant colonel." She said as I grabbed my bag off the floor. I sighed. "I know, I know...." I muttered, starting to get slightly annoyed.
"P-Please stop."
A voice emitted from the end of the hall, catching our attention. It sounded like a boys voice. "Huh? Stop? We're just asking you to go and buy us stuff, cut we're friends!" Another boys voice followed, sounding like it was up to no good.
I followed the voices and saw a boy about my age with brown hair backing up as three other guys began to corner him. I glared and gritted my teeth.
"Tsk! Bullies..."
I watched as the brown haired boy got shoved to the ground. I clenched my fists, ready to punch someone in the face. Preferably those bullies.
"I gotta do something! I can't just sit here and be a bystander.."
"Well how peaceful. I'm going home." Yuu said as he turned around and started heading out the door. I looked at him in disbelief.
"That's it?!" He's just gonna walk away like nothings happening?!"
"If that's your reaction to that, then you won't be making friends anytime soon.." Shinoa sighed, looking disappointed. I gritted my teeth. I didn't want to make any friends....but I couldn't just stand here and do nothing..
I just wish Yuu wasn't leaving...
One of the bullies started grinding his foot against the brown haired boys head. "You want to be friends with us, right?" He asked, kicking the boy to the ground. "Then you have to work for it, just like livestock." I froze, my anger at its boiling point.
"Oh, that is it!!"
I dropped my bag on the ground and started walking towards the four, catching their attention. "OI!! Who the hell are you calling livestock?!!" I said as I pulled the brown haired boy away from the three bullies.
They looked at me and smirked. I already knew what the hell they were thinking. They were pretty much thinking:
"Oh, it's just a girl. It's not like she's gonna do anything.."
And boy, we're they wrong..
"Who do you think we're calling livestock? If he wants to be our friend, then he has to work for it." The main bully said, still giving me the same ugly smirk. "After all, that's what livestock is supposed to do, right?" He said as his buddies behind him laughed.
"Oh, that is it!!"
I raised my arm in the air, ready to slap him across the face. Before I could, I felt someone grab my wrist, stopping me.
"Hey, give it a rest." Yuu said, pulling me back. I glared at him but then I stopped when I saw his exspression. He looked calm, but I could tell by the look in his eyes that he was mad.
"Who the hell are you?" The main bully asked as he sneered at Yuu. "Oh? Contrary to the intel. Your actually a nice guy." Shinoa said as she came out from behind Yuu and I.
She had to back up because one of the main bullies buddies came up next to Yuu, trying to intimidate him. one of the other bullies came up to me, but he backed away when I shot him the "Fuck off" look.
"Hey, hey! Wait, what? Are you gonna play hero? Or are you gonna be our errand boy instead of Yoichi?" The main bully asked. Yoichi looked up in surprise.
"So that's his name. I knew he looked familiar. I have one of the same classes as he does. It's sad that he's being treated like this..."
I heard Yuu chuckle. "Man, you guys are easy to understand. I like it. It kind makes me happy. Alright then, wanna fight?" Yuu asked as he gave them a cocky grin. Yuu pushed me behind him protectively.
"What the hell is with boys and wanting to fight all the time?! And another question...why the hell can't I help with the fighting?! Let me guess...it's 'cause I'm a girl, isn't it?"
Shinoa cleared her throat. "Oh, I forgot to tell you. Your suspension will be extended if you beat up a civilian." I turned towards her, my eyes widening.
"W....WHAT THE HELL!! Couldn't she have mentioned this earlier?!!"
"Whaaat?!!" Yuu exclaimed, before he got punched in the face. I caught him before he hit the ground and I sighed.
"Thanks a lot Shinoa-chan..."
*Timeskip: a little later.*
Yuuichiro's P.O.V
"Me, an errand boy...why me?" I mumbled as I carried a bag full of soda and snacks. Why the hell did I have to be an errand boy anyway? I was so going to get Shinoa for not telling me about that stupid "No fighting" rule.
I felt something cold being pressed up to my cheek and I winced slightly. "Don't move, alright! I'm trying to get some of the swelling to go down." Mayu scolded as she pressed a soda can to my cheek.
"I'm...I'm sorry, it's all my fault.." Yoichi said. I sighed and turned towards Shinoa. "Oi, Shinoa. Help us carry these will ya." She just laughed. "That's a funny joke." This girl was really starting to get on my nerves.
"I'm sorry..." Yoichi said again. He was also starting to get on my nerves with all that apologizing. I turned towards him. "And you. Stop with all your apologizing." I said, startling him a little. "Besides, what's the deal? Why are you being bullied by them anyway?!" I asked.
Yoichi clutched the paper bag in his arms a little tighter. "I-I'm not being bullied." I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Bullied people always say that." I retorted as I moved the soda can Mayu was holding next to my cheek.
"It's true, I'm not being bullied." Yoichi said again. Mayu sighed. "No offense, but it did look like that jerk was bulling you Yoichi-kun." She said, crossing her arms.
Yoichi shook his head again. "I-I'm not, I swear. You see, I had a favor to ask Yamanaka-kun, so I asked him if I could be in his circle of friends."
"Who...?"
"Who's Yamanaka?" I asked curiously. "I see, you have a monkeys brain." Shinoa stated bluntly. I heard Mayu trying to hold back her laughter.
"What the hell did she just say?!..."
I walked up to Shinoa and held one of the soda cans above her head, half tempted to hit her with it. "He's the one who punched you." Yoichi said. I sighed and walked up ahead, the other three following behind me.
"Oh, that guy. So, what did you want from him anyway?" Yoichi looked over to the side nervously. "I, um, failed the Demon Army entrance exam, and I really wanted to join, and Yamanaka-kun is a potential recruit for the Moon Demon Comany of the Vampire Extermination Unit." I stopped right in my tracks.
"HE'S WHAT?!!"
"The Moon Demon Comany?! Him?!" I exclaimed as I dropped the bag full of snacks on the ground. "Even I couldn't get in! I-I'm gonna kill Guren!!" I shouted.
Mayu rolled her eyes. "Oh, please! It's obvious that that Yamanaka jerk was just lying about being a potential recruit. Theres no way that Guren would recruit that bully." She mumbled.
"S-So I was hoping that Yamanaka-kun had a contact that could get me another chance at the entrance exam." Yoichi said as he looked down at the ground.
"I know it odd for a weakling like me to join the army, but..." He started to say but he stopped, gripping the grocery bag in his arms tighter. "I really want to get revenge for my sister." BI looked at him curiously.
"Don't tell me....that he lost his family to..."
"Revenge?" I asked as Yoichi gritted his teeth. He looked so sad when he mentioned his sister. Yoichi took a deep breath. "To protect me...my sister was killed by a vampire." Mayu walked up to Yoichi and patted him on the back. He looked over her and sadly smiled.
"In that moment, I couldn't help her...and so..." I grabbed one of the cans off the ground and walked over to him. He looked at me in confusion until I hit him in the head with it. "Idiot. If you went and helped, you'd be dead. You weren't in the wrong." I said as I looked off to the side, remembering about Mika and the others.
"But..." Yoichi said as he clutched his head. I turned back to him. "No buts! I'm telling you this for your own good. Don't join the army." I said. I looked at the can in my hand and sighed.
"More imporantly, your sister wouldn't want revenge, right?" I asked as I threw the can into the bag Yoichi was carrying. He stumbled a bit before catching his balance.
"A wimpy little boy like you would get in the way of vampire extermination." I stated as I started walking away. I heard foot steps behind me.
"Yuu-ku....!"

BOOOMMMM
Suddenly, there was a big explosion, causing the ground to shake. I heard Mayu scream as she almost fell down the stairs. I quickly caught her, making sure she was alright.
"What the hell was that?!!"
Soon after the explosion, sirens started to go off.
"Emergency alert! This is message for all students and faculty members."
"A vampire from the nearby biological research facility has escaped."
"All students..."

"What is a vampire doing in a place like this?!" Shinoa asked, the smell of smoke filling the air. Yoichi dropped the bag he was carrying on the ground. "There's a vampire in this school?!" He asked as horror filled his eyes.
I couldn't here what all was going on over the P.A. "Hey, shut up for a second!" I exclaimed, causing them to go silent. I continued to listen, blocking out as much of the background noise as I could.

"Vampires regain their strenght when they drink blood. Please do not approach it even if you see it."
"We repeat, do not approach the vampire even if you see it."

"You three, please evacuate! I'll call the Moon Demon Comany for..." Shinoa said, but I quickly cut her off. There was no way in hell I was gonna run away. I was gonna find this vampire and kill it.
"We don't need them!" I said, startling her. I clenched my fists. "I'll kill the vampire." Shinoa looked at me as if I was crazy, but I didn't care.
"I'm actually gonna kill one and force Guren to recognize me!" I exclaimed as I started to run off. I felt someone grab me by my arm, pulling me back.
"Uh-uh! No way! Screw being recognized by Guren, I'm not about ready to let you risk your fucking life over joining the damn Moon Demon Comany!" Mayu stated, gripping my arm tighter.
I tried pulling my arm out of her grasp. "Let go of me Mayu! Can't you see why I'm doing this already!?" I asked as she gripped my arm tighter.
I heard her click her tongue in annoyance. "Fine! But your not going alone! I'm coming with you!" She said. I shook my head.
I ripped my arm out of her grasp and grabbed her by her shoulders. "No! Your staying here. I don't want you to get hurt!" I shouted. Mayu shook her head. "No! Your not going alone you moron!" She shouted back. I gritted my teeth.
"Dammit...!!"
I let go of her shoulders and pulled her by her arm, hugging her tightly. "I want you to stay here...because I can't risk losing you like I lost the others..." With that being said, I let her go and quickly ran off.
"I can't let her get hurt...because if she did I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.."
I gritted my teeth as I clenched my fists.
"That's why...I'm gonna kill this vampire!"
"I'm gonna kill it..to keep Mayu safe.."
Mayu's P.O.V
"Yuu-kun..."
I gritted my teeth. I just can't....I just can't let him kill that vampire by himself...
I felt something wet splashing my ankles, snapping me out of my thoughts. One of the soda cans that was on the ground had a hole in it, causing the soda to splash everywhere.
"That idiot..." I heard Shinoa mumble as used her bag to shield herself from the soda. I clenched my fists.
"I just can't stand here....I need to help him..."
I quickly turned towards Shinoa. "Shinoa-chan, I need you to call the Moon Demon Comany and tell them what happened immediately!" Shinoa looked up at me surprised, but she quickly nodded.
I turned towards Yoichi, startling him a little. "Yoichi-kun, I want you to protect Shinoa-chan at all times, alright?!" He nodded slightly. "W-What about you...?" He asked, sounding worried.
I cracked my knuckles. "Isn't it obvious, I'm gonna go after that thick headed idiot." Shinoa looked up at me. "That's too dangerous Mayu-san." I shook my head.
"Even if it's dangerous..I can't just sit here and let him take on that vampire by himself." I said, smiling. "And besides...he's my family." I quickly turned around and started running, my heart beating out of my chest.
"Please be alright...please be alright."
I pushed my way through the crowd of kids, getting pushed and shoved know and then. I ended up near the school building that was close to where the vampire broke lose.
"If it needed blood..it would have came through here."
I ran up the stairs, passing by a few kids that were sitting against the wall covering their faces with their knees and silently crying. I told them to hurry up and get out and they nervously complied.
"Dammit...where the hell are you Yuu-kun..?"
I heard some commotion in the classroom behind me.
"In there.."
I gritted my teeth and quickly turned towards where mine and Yuu's lockers was. Good thing they were infront of the classroom.
I quickly opened Yuu's locker and growled.
"Damn...he took the gun with him to...I need to find a weapon, and quickly."
I searched along the floor, my eyes quickly scanning for anything I could use. Preferably something sharp or blunt. I caught sight of a lead pipe that was sticking out of the wall.
With no time to lose, I grabbed it and tugged with all my might. It finally came lose, causing me to lose my balance for a minute.
"This will do nicely.."
I walked towards the classroom door and took a deep breath. I could feel a knot forming in the pit of my stomach, making me nervous.
"Just calm down Mayu...you can do this..just think of Mika-kun and the others..."
I gripped the lead pipe in my hand tighter. I took another deep breath as I grabbed the doors handle.
"Alright..let's go!!"
Without warning, I slammed open the door and charged in. I instantly caught sight of Yuu and the vampire. She was preparing to stab him, until she caught sight of me. She went to dodge, but I was to fast.
I quickly swung the pipe, smacking her in the head. She lost balance and hit the wall, hard. "Take that you filthy blood sucker..!" I exclaimed.
"Y-You..!" A familiar voice emitted from the side of me, catching my attention. I turned and saw that one guy who had punched Yuu in the face earlier.
"What the hell is that Yamanaka jerk doing here?"
"MAYU!! What the hell are you doing here?!! I thought I told you not to follow me dammit!" Yuu shouted, grabbing me by the arm. I shrugged him off.
"Jeez, is that how you say thank you after I saved your ass from that bitch over there? And besides, you don't listen to what anybody tells you, so I decided to take a page from your book and not listen to you." I retorted, sticking my tongue out at him.
"Why you...." He growled, his eye slightly twitching. I went to say something back until I heard a painful moan.
I looked ahead and saw a girl laying on the teachers desk, she looked like she was hurt. I quickly turned to Yamanaka.
"Oi, Yamanaka. Get that girl out of here now!" I shouted, surprising the boy. He didn't move, he still sat there scared. I gritted my teeth. "Your a soldier candidate aren't you? So get off your ass and be a man!" I shouted again.
"It...it was a lie..." He mumbled. "What...?!" Yuu exclaimed, looking pissed off.
"It knew it...!"
"I...thought everybody would fear me if I said I was joining the army.." Yamanaka said. I was so tempted to punch him at the moment.
"You stupid humans..." The vampire growled as she rose up off the ground, catching my attention. I readied myself for another attack. "Hey, hand me that gun.." I said, holding out my hand. Yuu didn't argue back, he just quickly handed me the gun. I looked over at him.
"Is it loaded..." I asked. He nodded. "I haven't used it since that day..." He replied. I nodded and quickly pointed the gun at the vampire.
She started to laugh. "You seriously think you can kill me with that measly weapon?" I shot her a cocky smile. "Heh, if a simple lead pipe could knock you on your ass, then I wonder what a gun could do." She growled.
"You little...!" She started to say but then she stopped. It looked like something caught her attention. Suddenly, she was face to face with me, causing me to back up into a wall.
"W-What the hell....!"
She continued to stare at me for what seemed like hours. I started to feel very uncomfortable.
"Why hasn't the vampire tried to kill me yet?! What the hell...?!"
The vampires eyes widened. "Riza-Sama..." She muttered, catching me off guard.
"R-Riza-Sama?! Who...?"
"Get away from Mayu!" Yuu shouted as he lunged at the vampire, almost hitting her with his sword. She quickly dodged, losing her arm in the process. Yuu ran up to me.
"You okay?" He asked. I nodded, my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. I watched as the vampire stuck it's arm back on. I cringed.
"Hey, human. Why do you look like Riza-Sama?" The vampire asked as she glared at me. "How the hell....SHOULD I KNOW!!" I shouted as I pointed the gun at her. I pulled the trigger, the sound of gun shots filled the classroom.
The vampire dodged the bullets and then lunged at me. I pointed the gun and went to pull the trigger again, but Yuu quickly got in the way and blocked the vampires attack with his sword.
She hopped back, noticing a big slash mark across her chest. She grinned evily as it healed.
"Damn..."
"Playtime's over. You can't save anyone." She cackled as she walked back over to the girl that was one the teachers desk, grabbing her by the head of her hair.
"Shit...!!"
"Once I recover from this girls blood, you two will be no match for me." She was about to sink her fangs into the girls throat, when she was suddenly tackled to the ground. My eyes widened in surprise and anger.
"Y-Yoichi-kun!!!"
"Hyakuya-kun! Shiranui-san!" He shouted. I gritted my teeth. "Dammit! I told you to...!" I started to say, until I saw the vampire.
"You little..." She growled, lunging at Yoichi. She was close to hitting him, until Yuu blocked her attack.
He looked at Yoichi and smiled. "Thanks, Yoich." Yoichi smiled. "W-Well, we are friends, after all.." He said, catching Yuu off guard. The vampire took that to its advantage and grabbed Yuu by his throat. "Damn you!" She yelled as she ran towards the window.
"Yuu-kun!!" I shouted as I followed after them. The three of us crashed through the window, causing glass to fly everywhere. In an attempt to kill her, Yuu stabbed the vampire through the chest. I tried to move out of the way of the blade, but it caught me on the cheek.
"Ouch!"
I wasn't sure what hurt worse. Crashing through the trees and hitting the ground or getting cut by a sharp blade. When we landed on the ground, the vampire ripped the blade from its flesh and slammed me into a tree.
Before I could move away, she grabbed me by the throat and lifted me up.
"D-Damn...can't...breath...!"
"Mayu!" Yuu shouted as he tried to get the vampire off me. "Learn your place, livestock!" She growled as she kicked him, sending him flying into a tree. "Y...Yuu...kun!" I cried, trying to get the vampire off me.
"You even smell like Riza-Sama, why is that human?" The vampire growled as she tightened her grip on my throat. "G...Go...to hell!" I wheezed. "Well then. If you won't tell me, I will just have to kill you then." She said, getting ready to end my life.
The vampire smiled. "Once I devour your blood, then I'll kill your friend as we----!!" She started to say until a blade plunged into her chest, causing her to cry out in pain.
"This weapon...it's a....cursed gear!"
I looked up to see who the sword belonged to, and my eyes widened.
"L-Lieutenant colonel Guren!"
"D-Damn...a cursed weapon...?" The vampire said, it skin slowly starting to turn into ashes. "Quit your screeching, vampire." Guren said as he tore his blade out of the vampires flesh. As soon as he did, the vampire completely turned into dust, leaving behind only the rags it was wearing.
I fell to the ground gasping for air. If Guren didn't come when he did, I would've been dead by now.
I looked up to see Guren sticking his hand out to me and I gladly took it. "Thanks..." I coughed as I weakly stood up. Guren looked over at Yuu. "You look pathetic." He stated as Yuu glared at him.
"Are you stupid? How can you kill a vampire with a normal weapon without an anti-vampire spell?" Guren asked. Yuu rolled his eyes and stood up. "Don't butt in. I was this close to killing it until it charged at Mayu." Guren didn't look impressed.
"It's true!" Yuu protested. "Yeah, yeah." Guren huffed as he sheathed his sword. "But I suppose you two did well for kids. Thanks to you, we have fewer casualties." Guren said as he walked back towards his comrades.
"That's the Moon Demon Company...."
"I'm not interested in making anymore friends...huh?" Yuu started to say until he caught sight of Shinoa, who was currently waving at him.
"Shinoa-chan!"
"Tsk. Anyway, you saw my skill. I can fight against vampires, so let me join the Moon Demon Comany!" Yuu said. Guren shook his head. "Nope. Besides, I hate guys that don't work as a team." I heard Shinoa giggle.
"You're the one who has the hardest time working as a team."She stated as Guren turned towards her, looking really annoyed.
"Huh? Did you say something?" He asked. She shook her head. "No, sir." She said sarcastically. Guren sighed and turned back to Yuu. I stood next to him and listened.
"Anyway, it's just like I had Shinoa tell you. If you can't make any other friends, than--" Guren started to say, until Yuu cut him off.
"Shut up about friends! You don't need any to kill vampires!" He shouted as he clenched his fists. I turned towards Yuu. "Then what the heck have I been this whole time, an acquaintance?!" I asked as I put my hands on my hips.
Yuu went to say something to me, but he was quickly cut off. "Th-Th-Thank goodness!" A familiar voice emitted from a staircase next to us. We both turned to see Yoichi standing at the top, he looked really relieved.
"Hyakuya-kun! Shiranui-san! You're alright! I thought you both had died!" He exclaimed as he jumped over the railing. He landed on ground, losing his balance at first. When he regained his balance, he ran up to the both of us and tackle hugged us.
"WAAAH!!" I exclaimed as I fell on the ground. I patted Yoichi's head as he squeeze hugged me.
"Can't...breath....AGAIN!!"
"Who's that?" Guren asked. Shinoa turned towards him. "Apparently, that's their friend." Yoichi stopped crying and looked up at Yuu.
"Huh? What? Hey, Hyakuya-kun! Oh no!" Yoichi exclaimed as he shook Yuu by his shoulders. I looked over and sighed.
"I knew I heard the sound of a skull hitting the pavement..."
"S-Someone call an ambulance!" Yoichi panicked. I got up off the ground and lifted Yuu of the ground, drapping him over my shoulders somewhat.
"Damn, he's heavy!"
I turned towards Yoichi to the best of my ability. "Oi, Yoichi-kun. You mind helping me? He's kinda heavy." Yoichi looked up at me, rubbed his eyes, and then nodded.
"Now you need to keep your promise, Lieutenant colonel Guren." Shinoa said as she looked over at Guren. Guren's eyes widened in surprise. "Huh? What? You gotta be joking!" I giggled.
"Take that one Guren!"
Yuuichiro's P.O.V
I see the same scene every time I close my eyes.
I see the smiling faces of my friends, comrades, my precious family, and then...
"Whew, I'm glad to see you finally made some new friends." A familiar voice emitted from behind me. My eyes widened.
"M-Mika..."
I quickly turned around, coming face to face with my family. The only one I didn't see was Mayu.
"Huh?! What are you guys doing...?" I asked, feeling like I was going to cry. Mika smiled at me.
"Now we can stop worrying. You're to kind to be able to live for nothing but revenge, Yuu-chan." He said. "So, you need to protect your new friends." He said, as he turned around.
"Well, we gotta go now." Mika said as he and the others started to walk back into the darkness.
I reached out to them. "Hey. W-What do you mean? Mika, don't go that way." I suddenly felt someone tug on my arm.
"Come on Yuu-kun. We need to go to."
I paused and looked at my arm, my eyes widening even more.
"M-Mayu...."
It was Mayu, except she wasn't a teenager. She was a little kid again. Mayu let go of my arm and started skipping towards the exit behind us.
"Wait, Mayu. What about Mika?" I asked. Mayu stopped. "There's nothing we can do Yuu-kun." She said, sounding really sad.
Mayu turned to me and stuck out her hand to me, except she wasn't a child any more. She was now a teenager. Mayu smiled at me. "But...just like Mika-kun said...you can protect me." She said.
That was right...I have to do whatever it takes to protect her. I gritted my teeth. If I lost Mayu...I lost everything.
Without hesitation, I took Mayu's hand. I was going to protect her no matter what.
Without failure.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself in a different room. It looked like a hospital room.
"Hyakuya-kun! Thank goodness! Shinoa-san, Shiranui-san, Hyakuya-kun is awake!" Yoichi exclaimed, catching both the girl's attention. Shinoa was sitting in a chair, staring out a window and Mayu was lounging on a couch, staring at the ceiling.
Mayu turned towards me and smiled. "You need to lay off the junk food for a while, you almost gave me a hernia." She teased, sticking her tounge out at me. I glared at her.
"Oh, good thing he's awake now." Shinoa said as she closed the window. I looked out it, taking in the scenery of broken and partially demolished buildings and cracked roads.
"As of today, you're assigned to the Vampire Extermination Unit." Shinoa said, startling me.
"No way...really!!"
Yoichi turned towards me. "Good for you, Hyakuya-kun." Shinoa turned towards him. "Oh, your enlistment has been accepted as well, Yoichi Saotome." Yoichi looked up at her startled.
"They admired how you three protected your friends by putting yourselves on the line. And so, we've become your "comrades" that you hate so much." Shinoa said as she looked at me.
"W-What...?"
Shinoa stuck her hand out to us, so we could put ours on top of hers. "Welcome to the Moon Demon Comany." She said as she smiled. Mayu smiled and walked over, sitting on the edge of my bed.
Yoichi put his hand on top of shinoa's, Mayu followed afterwards. The three of them turned towards me. "Hey, Hyakuya-kun. You too." Yoichi said.
I blushed as I put my hand on top of Mayu's. "This is stupid..." I mumbled.
"Dammit....It's nice to work with you..."
