Karli’s POV

Once everyone left, giving each a warm hug, it became quiet in the house.  Then I noticed something. “Hey Jason, where is Kimber?”

“She’s at a friends house, but she will be back soon, why?” He asked. “Just wondering. I haven’t seen her all day.” He nodded. “So.. What did you think of everyone?” I smiled at this. “Oh Jason, they are spectacular! I love them already, especially Andrea, she is so kind. All of them are really sweet. I can’t wait to see them again!” I smiled even wider at the thought. Jason smiled too. “Good! They like you  a lot too, I can tell.”

It’s around 4:30 right now and I’m in my room, not really having anything to do.  I decide to go to the music room to play for a little while. I pick up the guitar and strum to see if it’s in tune. I play Stop & Stare by One Republic this time.

This town is colder now, I think it's sick of us

It's time to make our move, I'm shakin off the rust

I've got my heart set on anywhere but here

I'm staring down myself, counting up the years

Steady hands, just take the wheel...

And every glance is killing me

Time to make one last appeal... for the life I lead

Stop and stare

I think I'm moving but I go nowhere

Yeah I know that everyone gets scared

But I've become what I can't be, oh

Stop and stare

You start to wonder why you're 'here' not there

And you'd give anything to get what's fair

But fair ain't what you really need

Oh, can u see what I see

They're tryin to come back, all my senses push

Un-tie the weight bags, I never thought I could...

Steady feet, don't fail me now

Gonna run till you can't walk

But something pulls my focus out

And I'm standing down...

Stop and stare

I think I'm moving but I go nowhere

Yeah I know that everyone gets scared

But I've become what I can't be, oh

Stop and stare

You start to wonder why you're here not there

And you'd give anything to get what's fair

But fair ain't what you really need

Oh, you don't need

What u need, what u need...

Stop and stare

I think I'm moving but I go nowhere

Yeah I know that everyone gets scared

But I've become what I can't be

Oh, do u see what I see...

I finish the song with an echo on the last key.  When I finish the song I put the guitar down and look around the room. There are more guitars on the walls, hanging on the hook and some pictures of Jay playing with the instruments. Then I spot a desk in the corner of the stage that I never noticed before. There was nothing too interesting about the desk but something made go to the desk. Something that made me curious about what was in it. There was nothing but a few pencils and a lamp on the top. But on there were two drawers on each side of the desk. I opened the top ones first. Nothing. I tried the bottom one on the right. It was stuck. I was just about out of hope of finding anything when I got to the last drawer.

I opened it and was about to close it when something in the back caught my eye. I pulled it out. It was a sack of papers with writing on them. Wait, it’s not just writing… they were lyrics. I pulled out the first sheet.

I trusted you
Yeah that would be my first mistake
Yeah I...I've been lied to
Your eyes are ice cold blue
A mirror of the heart inside of you

You can't walk back in my life
You had your chance to be by my side
I don't have to hear you cry to know

[Chorus:]
Just go
I gave you my word and I promised to love you
Go, it's over
You had your chance
Just go
There's nothing inside me that still feels connected to you
To me you're already gone

I got a new love now
She's my new love now
And she loves me so
Takes me where you never took me
Although you tried too
Her eyes they read so true
So different from the way it was with you

I don't need you in my life
Forgot what it's like to be satisfied
I don't wanna hear you cry 'cause I know

[Chorus]

Takin' a look at these photographs
Fightin' my tears I try to relax
'Cause you came and you left and it all went by so fast

[Chorus X2]

I got a new love now
I trusted you
And that would be my first mistake…

It was great lyrics! The density in the words was so real… I wonder who wrote them… I look at the bottom of the page and…OMG!

By: Jay Hunt

Jason wrote these! Wow… he did say he likes to write… but these lyrics are incredible.

I looked at some of the other sheets. They were all Jason’s. My eyes went wide at the realization that I had pretty much invaded his privacy.  I put the sheets back quickly and left the room franticly.  Once I got out the door I ran into somebody. “Sorry I-” I looked straight into the eyes of Jason. Uh oh… “Hey, why are you in such a hurry?” he asked me. “I-I uh… I gotta go,” I stuttered and ran around him and up into my room.  Once I  inside I leaned against the door a let out a long sigh.

Jason’s POV

I was in my room writing lyrics for a new song when I heard the sound of a guitar. Karli.  Even though she won’t admit it, she really does have a great voice. I listened closely.

“Stop and stare

I think I'm moving but I go nowhere

Yeah I know that everyone gets scared

But I've become what I can't be, oh

Stop and stare

You start to wonder why you're 'here' not there ..”

One Republic.  Karli has good taste. I decided to join her. I put my lyrics away in my nightstand drawer and left the room. I headed toward the music room and was about to open the door but I was beat to it. Next thing I know Karli starts running out but hits me instead. “Sorry I-” she started but was cut short when she saw who I was. Her eyes went wide for a second and look dumbfounded. “Hey, why are you in such a hurry?” I ask her. She starts stuttering, “I-I uh…I gotta go.” she swerves around me and runs down the hall and up the stairs. What was that about?

I go into the room and see the guitar she was playing by my desk.  I go over to it to put it back when I notice that one of my drawers were slightly ajar. It wasn’t just a drawer either.. It was where I keep my lyrics.  Nobody ever looks at my lyrics. They were personal, each involving my own experiences, mostly with… no! I’m not even going to say her name. She betrayed me… she used me… she is nothing to me now.

So that’s why Karli was all weird… she must have found them. I better talk to her.

I close the drawer and put the guitar on its stand. I turn the lights off and go out the door and head to Karli’s room.  I knock on the door. “Who is it?” I hear her shout at the door. “Jason” I shout back. “I need to talk to you.” There is a moment of silence and then the door opens to reveal Karli with a look of fear in her eyes. She lets me in and goes to sit on her bed. She grabs one of her pillows and hugs it to her. I sit in her desk chair. I didn’t speak for a minute, just looking at her. She had changed out of her clothes from when the guys came over. Now she was wearing a black t-shirt with a logo on it and shorts.  It seems no matter what she wears, she never fails to look beautiful.

Karli shift on her bed and fidgeted with her shirt, not looking me in the eye. “Karli  I -” she cut me off. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to read them, I didn’t even know they were yours! I was just curious and.. and…” she looks down guiltily.  I get out of my seat and sit next to her, putting my fingers under her chin to make her look at me. When she finally looks up I start to speak. “Karli, its okay. I’m not mad, and you shouldn’t feel bad.  You didn’t know.”

She lets out a sigh of relief, and smiles up at me.  I smile back. “ But if you aren’t mad that I read them, why are they hid away in that drawer?”

I let out a long breath, not knowing if I should tell her or not. “It’s personal. The lyrics are personal. They all have to do with someone. And I use music to let out my emotions.”

She nodded and was quiet for a moment. She looked at me again. “ Why don’t you show them? Why don’t you sing them or whatever. I only read the first one but Jason, your lyrics are really good. And the fact that it’s personal only makes them better.” I just stare at her.

“Y-You think they are good?”

“Of course! They are better than good, they are awesome!” she smiled. I smiled back. “Thanks”

I said. She nodded and said your welcome.

We talked for a little while longer then I left, going to my own room, an idea for a song forming in my head.
