Few days passed and still, Lance is not answering Andrew’s calls…
But he keeps on calling Madeline, but she is not answering his calls either…Madeline didn’t tell her parents what exactly happened….and so she kept it with herself and with Charlie…

“ahm.. Mads.. kamusta? it has been days… hindi pa kami nagkakausap ni Lance.. he’s been dodging my calls…”, bungad ni Andrew kay Madeline
“and I’m dodging his calls either…”, bakas sa boses ni Madeline na disappointed pa rin siya sa nobyo
“O….Okay… ahm.. ahh… so… what are you planning to do now?...”, Andrew asked her
“I…I don’t know… ahm.. I still can’t believe it… it’s like, all of a sudden, he’s not the same anymore… I just wonder,,, ano kayang nangyari sa kanya noong umuwi ako ditto, at naiwan siya doon sa New York?...”, Madeline is now letting her doubts out…
“I don’t know.. but if you want to find out, you better talk to him as soon as you’re ready… malapit na kayong ikasal, remember?....and speaking of kasal….”, Andrew stepped closer to Madeline…
“ahm… do you still remember Kathy?... “, medyo hesitant si Andrew sa pagtatanong
“ahm… y…yeah.. the girl you’re with when you met the accident…wh…why do you ask?...”, Madeline suddenly felt uneasy… may mga naiisip siyang hindi niya gusto…. ano kayang kinalaman ng kasal kay Kathy?.... Oh no…. don’t tell me….
“y…yeah… she and our college friend, Harvey are going to get married… tomorrow… ako yung best man… and… and Kathy wants you to be there…she….she wants me to bring you along…”, Andrew explained
Nakahinga ng magaan si Madeline at para bang na-relieved sa nalaman… gusto niyang matawa sa sarili nya… “Pero… bakit pati ako invited?? why would she want me to be there?...”, nagtataka si Madeline..
“ahm… why not?... we’re friends, and you’re… ahm… well, she knows you…”, hindi alam ni Andrew ang tamang isagot
“but…d..do you want me to be there?...”, Madeline is still wondering
“well of course! for me to prove to you that I never loved Kathy…”, Andrew sincerely answered, looking into her eyes
“what for??”, Madeline asked
“I….I don’t know?... I just… I just…”, Andrew can’t finish his sentence…as if something or someone hinders him to tell Madeline that he still loves her…
before Andrew could even continue what he’s saying… Lance barged in…
“Maddie… Babe… we have to talk….”, Lance said as he walked towards her… Then he suddenly noticed, his brother is there…
“Kuya… w…what are you doing here?...”, Lance, surprised to see his brother, Andrew
“well, I’m just inviting her to our friends’ wedding tomorrow… and, yeah… I also think you guys need to talk…”, Andrew patted his brother’s shoulder, and gave a smile to Maddie before he left
“Ahm…Andrew… sige, pupunta ako.. pick me up tomorrow.. sabay na tayong pumunta…”, pahabol na bilin ni Madeline kay Andrew before he could open the door to leave
“Alright… got it!...”, Andrew said
“Maddie… please talk to me…”, Lance begged
“what?...”, she said coldly
“I…I’m so sorry… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to… I didn’t mean to hurt you…to force you… I’m so, so sorry, Babe… please… I promise, I could wait… I could wait until we get married… please, Maddie…”, he held her hands and tried to catch her gaze
But she’s just not looking at him.. still her arms crossed her chest…
“what happened to you while I was here and you were there in New York?...”, Madeline asked determinedly

Maddie told her about the dinner with Lance..and what he tried to do to her…

“No.. that’s fine!... dapat nga hindi ko na sasabihin sa’yo eh… balak ko bukas na ako magpakita sa’yo.. on your wedding day! pero hindi naman kita matiis! and I have to ask you something…”, Amanda answered
“Oh! ikaw talaga! you always love surprising people! heheh… kasama mo ba si Lance? Lance, right? what’s his surname again?...”, usisa ni Kathy

Pinagsabay ang paghagis ng bouquet at ng garter para daw mas thrilling…
all the single ladies gathered around for the bouquet toss, and so did the bachelors for the garter toss…
hindi na dapat sasama si Madeline, pero pinipilit siya ng mga babaeng kaibigan nina Andrew at nina Kathy… halos buhatin siya ng mga ito, kahit na sinasabi niyang paulit ulit na hindi siya single, and she’s about to get married…
Pero wala nang nagawa si Madeline, kaya sumama na rin siya sa mga single ladies, iniisip niya, for fun lang naman…
parang nananadya talaga ang tadhana… aliw na aliw sa paglalaro….
Si Andrew ang di sinasadyang makasalo ng garter… ni hindi naman siya umeffort sa pagsalo ng garter di tulad ng ibang guys na super ready at pumupwesto pa sa pagsalo, pero si Andrew ay tatawa tawa lang sa isang tabi, dahil sa mga kalokohan ng mga kaibigan nilang lalaki na gusting gusto makasalo ng garter… Eh akalain ba nilang pepetiks petiks lang sa tabi si Andrew, ay siya pa ang nakasalo nito…
Ganoon din naman si Madeline sa kabila… hindi siya pumoporma o pumupwesto para makasalo ng bouquet, nakitayo lang siya katabi ng mga girls na yumaya sa kanya, pero hindi siya nakikigulo sa pag aabang at pagsalo sa bouquet, eh akalain ba namang papunta sa direksyon niya ang bouquet, at pabagsak na ito sa harapan niya, kaya’t wala na siyang nagawa kundi ilahad nang bahagya ang kanyang kamay para lang hindi bumagsak sa floor ang bouquet…
“Oh, Maddie… looks like the bouquet is really heading towards you… hahahah…. just like the garter headed towards Andrew… “, narinig niyang sabi ng isang bride’s maid doon
“Oo nga… nakakaloka kayong dalawa… kami ang todo effort, pero kayo, nakatayo lang sa tabi, pero kayo pa rin ang nakasalo… hahahah… Oh destiny…. hahahahah…”, biro pa ng isa pang bride’s maid…
Tuwang tuwa naman sina Kathy at Harvey… as if pinlano nila na si Andrew ang makasalo ng garter from Harvey at si Madeline ang makasalo ng bouquet from Kathy… Pero hindi… it just happened… and the newly-weds are very happy about it…
At si Andrew at si Madeline naman ay nagkatinginan na lang… kinabahan si Maddie.. bakit naman sa dinami dami ng babae doon eh siya pa talaga ang nakasalo ng bouquet… at sa dinami dami ng lalaking nandoon eh si Andrew pa talaga ang nakasalo ng garter!! ang awkward lang talaga… dahil she’s getting married to Andrew’s brother, at si Andrew ang nakasalo ng bouquet?! pero it doesn’t matter..’it’s just a game…right… just for fun’…. that’s what she told herself.. really, Maddie??
The emcee spoke: “Okay, anong gagawin natin sa dalawang ‘to, guys? hahahahah….”
“Okay… Andrew, you put the garter on Madeline… I heard you, guys are ex-lovers, right?”, the emcee asked
the two nodded
“So, oh… isn’t this gonna be awkward for you, guys, or something?....”
“Come on, you, two! just for fun! nothing serious!... you guys are friends, after all right?...”, Kathy, the bride shouted
“yeah… they’re cool!... that’s why they came here together…. right, guys?”, Harvey, the groom added
“Oh… alright.. our newly-weds said it all… so, guys, are we cool here?... is it okay?...”, the emcee confirmed
Andrew held Madeline’s hand, and he gave her the comforting look.. and she just smiled…
“Okay… here we go…”, the emcee said as Andrew led Madeline to a chair, and he started to put the garter on her leg… slowly…carefully….gently….
The crowd is shouting and giggling…. pati ang mga bisita of all ages ay kinikilig…. dahil nag eye-to-eye contact ang dalawa, as if Andrew is telling her not to worry about anything…
Hindi na pinag usapan nina Andrew at Madeline ang ‘kiss’ na naganap sa pagitan nila noong gabing inihatid ni Andrew si Maddie sa bahay…
kaya naman hindi maiwasan ni Madeline ang biglang makaramdam ng awkwardness nang maalala ang nangyaring ‘yon….
But the way Andrew looked at her while he was putting the garter on her was unexplainably comforting and……compelling?
At the far end of the hall, Amanda was watching them… with a mischievous smile…. she confirmed it… she can see with her very own eyes that the brother of the guy whom she loves is still in love with his brother’s fiancé… Kaya lalong tumibay ang plano ni Amanda… dahil pakiramdam niya ay matutulungan siya ni Andrew…
Pagkatapos noon ay nagpatuloy pa ang program sa reception…
ngunit bago magsiuwian ang mga bisita ay niapitan na ni Amanda ang pinsan na bride…
“Kathy… ipakilala mo na sa akin si Andrew…”, sabi ni Amanda kay Kathy
“eh pero.. paano mo makakausap si Andrew? andyan si Madeline…. okay lang ban a marinig ni Maddie ang kung anumang sasabihin mo kay Andrew?...”, nag aalalang tanong ni Kathy
“Oo.. much better… she should know what her fiancé had been doing… hindi pa niya kilala ng husto ang lalaking pakakasalan niya…. that is…. kung matutuloy ang kasal… hahahah….”, may pagbabanta sa boses ni Amanda.. determinado siyang makuha ang gusto niya… si Lance…
“Ahm… d…don’t you think…ma…masasaktan si maddie?... I..I don’t want her to get hurt again…”, Kathy told her cousin
“What? what do you mean by that?...”, nagtatakang nagtanong naman si Amanda
“I felt like I caused their break up… sila ni Andrew….”, Kathy said…
“Oh…couzie… if that’s what you felt, then… all the more you should help me with this… para mo na ring tinutulungan na magkabalikan ang lovers na sinira mo noon… who would have thought na ikaw pa pala ang magiging susi para magkabalikan sila Andrew at Madeline…”, Amanda said to Kathy…
“eh…oo nga.. pero, how can we be so sure na magkakabalikan nga sina Maddie at Andrew kung agawin mo si Lance kay Maddie??...”, Kathy asked…
“dahil ikaw na rin ang nagsabi that Andrew is still not over Maddie, and I happen to confirm that with my own eyes… the way he stares at her?...oh come on! it’s undeniable!.. “, Amanda made it clear what she had observed from the moment she saw Maddie and Andrew arrived together at the church a while ago before the wedding ceremony began, until now…
“And how sure are you that Maddie is still in love with Andrew, and she would just let go of Lance??...”
“I can see how she looked back at him every time their gazes meet… and how she suddenly felt awkward when Andrew was putting the garter on her… and how she would blush when he holds her hand, how she laughs with him in his jokes, and….responds to him when they talk…. I’ve been watching them all this time… don’t get mad, couzie ah, if I’m watching that couple more than I did to you and Harvey kanina pa.. heheh…”, mahabang kwento ni Amanda
“My gosh, couzie!! napansin mo lahat yun??... at ganun?.. mas pinapanood mo pa sila kesa sa amin ni hubby ko?... hahahah… ah ewan! sige na… naku.. feeling ko talaga, masasaktan si Madeline…”, Kathy said
“masasaktan at masasaktan din naman siya eventually… bakit patatagalin pa?.. at least, she’s with Andrew, she has a shoulder to cry on….”, sabi pa ni Amanda
“Ahm, Drew.. pupunta lang ako sa restroom ahh…”, paalam ni Madeline kay Andrew…
Nakita nina Kathy at Amanda ang pagtayo ni Madeline at paglakad nito palayo, ito na ang hinihintay na pagkakataon ni Amanda… bahala na..kahit wala doon si Madeline…
“Ahm, Andrew, this is my cousin from New York, Amanda… she happens to know your brother, Lance…”, pakilala ni Kathy sa dalawa
“Oh, Hi Amanda… I’m Andrew… magkakilala kayo ni Lance?...”, Andrew extended his hand to her and greeted her
“Oh, pa’no.. I still have some other guests to entertain… samahan ko muna si Harvey doon…. sige guys… maiwan ko muna kayo…”, nagmamadaling umalis si Kathy, leaving a significant look to her cousin..
“Yeah, I know about you.. naikukwento ka sa’kin ni Kathy… college friends kayo, diba? and yes, I know your brother…. I know him very well….”, makahulugang sabi ni Amanda sa binatang kaharap..
“really?.. so, how did you know Lance?..”, Andrew asked
And Amanda told the whole story to Andrew… on how she met Lance in a restaurant in New York, how they started to become friends…and all that…
Amanda also told Andrew how she liked Lance, how she got head over heels for him, she also fearlessly told Andrew about how her affair with Lance started after Madeline flew back to the Philippines almost 5 months ago…that she took that chance to be with Lance, even though she knew he is engaged with Maddie….
Amanda can see how shocked Andrew is while she’s telling him everything she thinks he has to know…
And the most shocking and jaw-dropping to all her stories is…..
Amanda is carrying Lance’s child… yes… she’s 2 months pregnant now with Lance’s baby…
Andrew’s forehead creased and there was rage in his eyes… paanong nagawang lokohin ni Lance si Madeline?...
“I…is it… is it true??... how sure are you that it’s my brother’s baby??...”, Andrew asked in distress
“because he’s the only man I’ve been sleeping with for almost 5 months….since Maddie went back here….”, Amanda confirmed…
“What??...”, Madeline butted in…she heard what Andrew asked and what the girl next to him said…
“Maddie…”, Andrew stood up, looking at Madeline…
“You….you’ve been….s…sleeping with Lance….since I…went home??....”, Madeline, starting to cry…. “a…and y…you’re…car….carrying his….his b…baby??!?!...”, Madeline felt her knees trembling and she slowly feels weaker and weaker….
Amanda also stood up… felt pity on her, but is more determined to get what she wants…
“Yes… and….yes….”, Amanda managed to answer…both of her questions…
Madeline cannot believe what she just heard… and the girl just confirmed it to her… she slowly takes some steps backwards, now her tears are streaming down from her eyes now full of pain…
Pakiramdam ni Madeline ay matutumba siya kung hindi pa siya aalis sa harapan ng babaeng ito…
And so, before she passes out, she decided to run away…
And Andrew immediately followed her…
leaving Amanda poker-faced….
Kung ganoon… hindi na pala niya kailangang makipag connive kay Andrew para makuha si Lance… dahil sa nakita niyang reaksyon ni Madeline, ay tantya niyang ito na mismo ang makikipaghiwalay sa fiancé nito…kay Lance…
Ngayon pa lang ay nakikini-kinita na ni Amanda ang tagumpay….
“Mads!!... Mads!!... wait up…. Mads!!...”, tinatawag ni Andrew si Madeline pero patuloy pa rin ito sa pagtakbo…
Madeline never felt this kind of pain before….
mas masakit pa pala yung ginawa ni Lance sa kanya…kaysa sa ginawa ni Andrew noon…
But now, she doesn’t know what to do… she doesn’t know where to go…
All she can think of now is to run and to cry….with nowhere to go…
naririnig niyang tinatawag siya ni Andrew…pero she can’t stop herself from running…
until he got her… he held her and hugged her from the back….
“Maddie… sssshhh…. don’t go anywhere… baka mapahamak ka lang… you’re too hurt that you won’t be able to think clearly…. you’ve got to breathe, Mads… hey… listen to me….”, Andrew said as he tries to calm her down…
But Madeline can’t stop crying… nanginginig ang buo niyang katawan… and so, Andrew embraced her…he wrapped his arms around her, and he can feel her heart beating so fast…
He’s telling her to breathe…
at first, she’s not listening to him… but eventually, she followed his breathing… they breathed in and out together…
Andrew is at rage for what his brother had done, but for now, all he can think of is Madeline… he knows she had a heart failure when she was younger, and he’s too worried about her….
He embraced her for a few minutes… and then, he carried her to his car…
hindi na sila nakapag paalam kina Kathy at Harvey… tsaka niya na lang tatawagan ang mga ito pagkagaling sa honeymoon…
“Mads… do you want to go somewhere?... o ihahatid na kita?...”, tanong ni Andrew kay Madeline na hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin tumitigil ang mga luha sa pagpatak, pero hindi na siya hysterical…
“ayoko pang umuwi….”, she said weakly
“ahm… sige… saan mo gustong pumunta?”, tanong naman ni Andrew…
“hindi ko alam…”, she answered, …still very weak…
Napakamot naman sa ulo si Andrew…. hindi niya alam ngayon kung saan dadalhin si Madeline… hindi pwedeng sa bahay niya, dahil baka sumabit siya…mahirap na…
He thought of bringing her to his mother in Rizal… sa bahay ng parents ng mommy niyang si Elena…
“do you want me to bring you to my mom?...”, he asked
“anywhere….with you…”, she answered in an almost whisper… then she closed her eyes…
Did he hear her right?... she agreed to go anywhere…with him…?? what??... nabuhayan ng loob si Andrew sa maaaring kahulugan ng sinabi ng babaeng pinakamamahal…
And he drove to his grandparents’ house in Binangonan, Rizal
They arrived there at around 11:30pm..
“Mom…”, he was standing in front of his mother at the door, with Madeline in his arms…
He told his mom what happened while they are both looking at the girl lying in bed… looking devastated and weak…
Elena felt hurt for Maddie… she has always been treating her as her own child ever since she was little….
“Sige na anak.. doon ka na sa guest room matulog… tabi na kami ni Maddie dito sa kwarto ko… tulog na ang lolo at lola mo…”, sabi ni Mommy Elena sa anak
“Okay, Mom… thanks… Good night…”, Andrew said to his mom and went outside her room..
Before Andrew sleeps, he called Madeline’s parents to tell where they are, at ihahatid niya bukas si Madeline, at tsaka magpapaliwanag…
may tiwala naman sa kanya ang parents ni Maddie, kaya hindi na siya nahirapang magpaalam sa mga ito..
