I've been reading a lot of mortals meet demigods with no mist these days and have been dying to do one of my own. So, without further a do...
I'm babysitting my little brother, JJ, at the moment. He sitting on the couch watching looney toons. And like the freakishly badass person I am, I'm watching it with him.
I look on as the coyote drags a mega huge box up a sand dune. One side of it is labeled: DYNAMITE.
I chuckle. These things never get old do they?
I watch as the coyote bends down to light the fuse...and the entire screen goes black.
"What?" screams JJ. then he starts to whimper. "Jake, you'll fix it, right?"
"I'll try buddy, I'll try." I get up from the couch and make my way over to the set. Before I've even taken a step, the screen starts to flicker. I halt, waiting to see what'll happen.
Soon a fuzzy image appears. It gets clearer and clearer as someone focuses it. Soon the entire screen is filled with the ugliest face I've ever seen. I cringe and immediately block JJ's eyes, knowing it'll give him nightmares.
The dude backs away from the camera and I can see behind him. It looks like he's in an auto repair shop.
This just keeps getting weirder and weirder doesn't it?
Then the guy starts to talk.
"Hello there. " The man has a deep gravelly voice that echoes even through the TV. "My name is Hephaestus. And for those of you who have studied Greek Mythology, yes, I am the real thing. God of fire and the forges." He cracks a horrifying smile. "The gods are real, mortals, and you really don't want to offend any of them." He shifts slightly to look behind the camera. Then nods and walks out of the shot. A woman with blond hair and grey eyes takes his place. "I am Athena. Goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. You may have been noticing some weird things happening lately. Like massive dog-like creatures lumbering down the streets and eating everything in sight. Or maybe you've see some crazy girls who look like cheerleaders from the waist up and from the waist down have one donkey leg and one metal one.
"These are called monsters. And even though you're only seeing them now, they've been walking this earth for far longer than any of you. Hecate, the goddess of magic and of the mist, has faded. That means that the mist has faded. The mist is what used to hide monsters and anything that your minds would never be able to comprehend. If you don't believe us, just wait. The twelve Olympians will be visiting schools - mainly middle schools and high schools - around the country and you will be able to see us then. So for now, goodbye!" The screen turns black and looney toons comes back on.
Wait...what just happened?
JJ stares at me blankly. "What was that, Jake?"
"I don't know, JJ. I don't know," I reply weakly, still completely befuddled by what just happened.
Of course I've heard of the Greek gods (I went to grade 5 people) but they are real?
No. This had to be a hoax.
A very elaborate hoax I'll admit, but still.
The gods are real?
No freaking way.
I text my friends to make sure I hadn't just had a very detailed dream that JJ had somehow shared...
Me: u saw that right?
😍Zoe😘: u saw it 2?
Me: what j'a think?
😍Zoe😘: ...
😍Zoe😘: do u believe it?
Me: idk
McSizzleman: I do
😍Zoe😘: seriously Leo? You seem like the last person on earth who'd believe it.
McSizzleman: c u @ school 2morrow?
Me: yeah...sure
Leo is acting strange. But then again...he's Leo. Of course he's acting strange.
I shake it off and check the time. Seeing it I pick up the remote and prepare for a tantrum as I push the power button. "It's time for bed JJ."
"NO!"
<¥><¥><¥><¥>TIME SKIP<¥><¥><¥><¥>
It's been a week since I found out the gods are real. The school has added Greek/Latin class which include studies of the Greek and Roman gods and culture.
It's really boring. But pretend I didn't say that cause I think Zeus would strike me down with some lightning real quick.
Anyways, the strangest thing about the gods unveiling is that Leo gone weirdly calm. He's ADHD, I really have no clue how he does it. I don't have ADHD yet I'm struggling to pay attention. And still beside me, in possibly the most boring class in history, Leo looks attentive. He raises his hand a lot in Greek/Latin class and gets everything right.
How?????
Today's no exception. Mrs. Darcy asks, "Who are the twin gods and what are they gods of?"
Leo's hand shoots up. If demigods existed, Leo would totally be a son of Athena.
Mrs. Darcy picks him. (If he's the only one with his hand raised, can he still be picked?)
"Apollo and Artemis. Apollo is the God of the sun, prophecy, music and poetry. Artemis is the goddess of the moon. She is also a maiden goddess. Meaning she's sworn off men. She also has a tribe of hunters who follow her and are also sworn off men. If any of them break their vow they're thrown out of the hunters."
"Correct again, Valdez. Except we know that there aren't hunters this time around. Don't we?" She phrases it as a a question but it's not.
"Yes, Mrs. Darcy," replies Leo, looking a little sheepish at forgetting that demigods and hunters don't exist, just the monsters. Sucks.
Mrs. Darcy looks about to continue when the PA system beeps. She pauses.
"All students please report to the auditorium. Repeat, all students please report to the auditorium."
We're all puzzled at the message, there wasn't an assembly posted for today. But none the less we all pack up our stuff and head over.
Once in the auditorium, I look at the stage. No ones there. Was this all a prank? Lot of planing for literally 5 minutes of glory where no one actually knows it was you. But I guess missing school pays up for it.
Then all the sudden 12 people appear on stage. I recognize them instantly as the 12 Olympians. Oh My God...wait no, Gods. I thought that the gods had forgotten us. But no, I should have known it was them. All of us bow quickly. All of us except Leo. He stares at them as if he's actually met them all before.
"Dude, do you have a death wish?" I whisper out of the corner of my mouth.
Leo must realize he's creating a scene and being Leo decides to make the most of it. "OMG guys! The gods are in are school!" Then he collapses on the ground in front of him. I can tell he's being super over sarcastic but I refuse to laugh. I can't laugh. I'll be put in an eternal hell for even thinking of laughing at the gods.
A deep voice says, "You may rise." I look up to see its Zeus, King of the gods, who's speaking. "First of all, I am Zeus, King of the gods, Lord of the skies. Today we have a special announcement to make. We know that you all have taken on the assumption that demigods do not exist. That is wrong. I myself have two demigod children at the moment. Thalia and Jason Grace. During the rest of the gathering we will introduce you to the most powerful demigods in the world." And with that 2 people who look around my age step out from behind the curtain. They walk up to the mic.
The girl speaks first, "Hi I'm Thalia, Lieutenant of the Hunter of Artemis. I was also a pine tree for many years. I'm a 2 time saviour of Olympus."
The boy walks up. All the girls start to swoon at his good looks. I can see Leo out of the corner of my eye rolling his eyes at them. "Hi, I'm Jason Grace, one of the seven and saviour of Olympus."
Another man walks up to the mic. "I am Poseidon, God of earthquakes and the sea. This is my son, Perseus Jackson." Another boy walks out. This time all the girls fall out of their seats to get a good look at him.
"Hey guys, I'm Percy Jackson. I was in the first great prophecy, am one of the seven and am a 2 time saviour of Olympus."
What do they mean by the great prophecy and one of the seven? But I don't get a chance to ask because the god is coming up.
Voices start mixing together. "Annabeth Chase. Percy's my boyfriend." "Piper McLean, one of the seven." "Hazel Levesque, daughter of Pluto." "Frank Zhang, descendant of Neptune." "Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano. Praetor of Camp Jupiter." "Nico Di Angelo, son of Hades."
Then Hephaestus stands up. I remembering seeing him on TV last week. Wow, he's even uglier in person. Wait... I didn't mean that!
"I've always sucked at introductions, so, my son, Leo Valdez." The name sounds familiar. So I sit in anticipation to see the boy come from behind the curtain. But no one comes and I turn towards Leo to get his views on this when it hits me. Leo Valdez. My friend. Leo freaking Valdez is a demigod.
I look at my him slowly. Regretting every mean though I've ever had against him.
He doesn't really look like Leo at the moment. He's kind of pale. But again his inner mc sizzle comes up and suddenly he's fling himself on stage and hugging all the demigods like he's just won an Oscar.
"Thank you. Thank you very much to all the little people I crushed on my way to the top." The girl with choppy hair and stunning eyes kicks him unceremoniously in the calf. "Hey, Beauty Queen, what was that for?" He asks hopping on one foot and rubbing his achy calf.
"Just do the introductions so we can get out of here," she responds. I think her name was Piper, but I can't remember. As for the whole Beauty Queen comment, I don't really know what happened there.
Leo rolls his eyes, but steps up to the mic once more. "Hey my peeps! I am Leo Mcsizzle Valdez bad boy supreme. Son of Hephaestus. And the first fire user since - what? - about 500 years. So yeah. I'm also one of the seven and am a saviour of Olympus. I'm important! Yes, baby!"
Okay the world just got really messed up here. Last week I found out there are real live gods. Now I find out that there are demigods as well. And Leo is a son of Hephaestus.
I think my mind has officially been blown.
A voice near the back, I don't know who, shouts, "But you can't even build anything!"
"You're not in my shop class!" Leo shoots back. I smile. It's good to know that the Leo I got to know this past month is also the real Leo.
"Well, we're off to see the wizard now. So, goodbye children!" And with that all, there's a big gleam of light through which I shut my eyes. When I open them again, all 12 Olympians are gone and so are their children.
I never saw Leo Valdez again.
So that was very long. Hope you guys don't mind...
I have absolutely no clue what to put in these A/Ns. That's a first.
