~Haley's P.O.V.~
"Do you mind if I film this?"
"Excuse me?" I asked
"Do you mind if I film our conversation?" Deanna asked
"That's fine" I answered
She walked over turned on a camera and sat on the couch
"Go ahead and have a seat" She said gesturing the chair in front of her
I wobbled over and sat down. The couch felt weird, it felt comfortable, hasn't felt like this in a long time.
"How long have you been out there?" She asked
"Since this all started"
"Have you been alone this entire time?"
I shook my head and looked down "I was with a group" I looked at her
"What happened?"
"I got separated, from a herd of walkers"
"Walkers?" She asked being curious, skeptical
"Those people out there, those monsters"
"Interesting choice of words"
"What else are you gonna call them" I said looking outside
"Tell me about the group you were in. How many of you were there?"
"A little more than a dozen. We were strong. But we were starved, tired. Low on everything"
"What happened to your foot?"
What is this 21 questions? I thought
"First I slightly twisted it. Then as we're were walking through the woods a walker came out of nowhere, tried taking a good bite out of me. I put up a fight but as I was on the floor, him on my feet he grabbed that foot. Held onto it and I ended up breaking it. Who knew a dead corpse could have so much strength" I joked
She only simply smiled "Is it any better?"
"Only slightly"
"Well we well have it wrapped up. And you are going to stay off of that foot. Keep it elevated"
I nodded "Thank you"
I'm guessing she could see I was all over the place with emotions
"Your safe here Haley"
Is this place really safe?
"How long have you had this place running since all of this started?" I asked
"Long enough for it to be safe enough. We all get along here. This community is well enough for us all"
I nodded "Now come on. Let's get you to your new home" She stood up and helped me up as we walked outside
New home?
"Aaron here will show you where you will be staying. Haley you are allowed to check out your weapon whenever you would like" Deanna said before walking off
I turned to Aaron and he helped me as we walked down the street
"Is the foot still that bad?" He asked
"It's better. But not completely healed"
"Well Haley, your safe now. And whenever I come walking by you better not be up and walking" He teased
I chuckled "Right"
We walked until we stopped in front of a good size white beautiful house
"Well here we are" He gestured his hand to the house
"This... is it? All mine?"
He nodded "Pretty cool huh"
"I'd say way cool" I laughed
"Well you have everything in there. Water, food, electricity"
We walked up the front steps "Thank you Aaron"
"No problem, and my house it just right across if you ever need anything"
I nodded
"Do you need any help inside?" He asked
I shook my head
"Oh I almost forgot. Wait here" He said
I looked at him conflicted as he left running to his house. I stood waiting and not even a minute later he came running back with crutches in his hand. He hopped up the few steps and smiled a big smile
"Oh no Aaron you don't have to" I said
"No seriously, take them"
I smiled "Thank you"
He nodded "Say no more"
He left and I turned to the doorway. I turned the nob and walked in closing the door behind me. Everything inside was nice and clean, organized. I never thought I would see the inside of a house like this ever again. I made my way to the restroom. The first place I went to was the shower. I stripped and hopped inside. I was able to balance myself. I opened the water and let the warm water hit my skin. I inhaled and cried. After the shower I wore my same clothes and walked outside with my crutches. I sat on the swinging chair and inhaled the air. I sat for awhile until Aaron came strolling by and sat next to me
"You look nice and refreshed" He chuckled
I nodded "Yea.. it's been awhile since I had a good shower like that"
He nodded
"I don't think I can thank you enough"
"I'm not the one you need to thank" He said
"Yea. Well you'll didn't have to take me in"
"When we bring people in it only makes us stronger" He shrugged
I nodded "I just wish the rest of my group was here"
"Maybe we could go out and find them. Well not you but others"
I shook my head "I don't even know where they are exactly. We were moving along"
"I'm sorry Haley"
"Don't be. It's okay"
"I'm sure your group is strong, that's why you made it this far expecially with your foot being broken"
"Yea. Rick. He is the one in charge. And Daryl.."
"Daryl?" He asked
"He's the only reason I'm still alive. I love him"
"That's good. To feel love. It feels good doesn't it?"
I nodded "It's really the only thing that makes me still feel like I'm human"
I looked out to see the sun going down
"I better get back. I will see you tomorrow?" He asked
I nodded. He stood up and walked away. I went inside with my crutches and ate some dinner. Afterwards I laid on the bed. I was staring up at the ceiling. But I still felt bad. I was here comfortable, and I knew the group wasn't. Who knows where they are right now. After what felt like hours I finally snoozed off.
Two days. Two days quickly flew by. I was walking around the town with my crutches just checking it out. And to be honest the town looked decent. Maybe Aaron is right. This place is safe enough. But I was missing Daryl like you wouldn't believe it. Never have I stopped thinking about him. How much I miss him
"Hey Haley"
I turned to see Jessie "Hey" I greeted her with a smile
"How's the foot treating you?"
"It's better. Being off of it for a good two days now"
She nodded "That's good"
"Hey where's Aaron? I haven't seen him all this morning"
"He went out. Yesterday"
"In the storm?" I asked
"He's got it"
I nodded "I just get back, rest up my foot"
"Okay, I will see you later"
"See you Jessie" I walked back with the crutches to the house. I sat on the chair and sat in silence.
