GERARD's POV ••

Reilly fell unconscious beside me even as I pleaded with her not to close her eyes. However, despite my pleas, her eyes gradually shut sending my heart into a tempo. At the lost of eye contact, I became unstable as Jonah pulled into accident and emergency of the hospital. Oh God, I can't lose her.

Upon pulling up to the doors of the unit, two patients escorts emerged ready to assist. Jonah helped the woman put Reilly on the gurney while the man assisted me on to mine. I could have cared less about the state I was in now. Reilly's wellbeing was what mattered most at the moment.

The escorts pushed us one after the other along the hall while Jonah explained what happened in relevance to the wound Reilly and I had simultaneously obtained. Reilly's strong she'll be ok.

I was frantic with worry for her so much so that I didn't want to let her out of my sight. The scrubs came out of nowhere obscuring my view of Reilly. When they became scarce my baby was gone. They scrubs pushed me along the halls into the operating room all while I questioned where Reilly had been taken.

The room was dark except for the bright lights that sat stationary above the operating table. It smelt heavily of sterilizing agent. In unison, the scrubs hoisted me off the gurney into the cool operating table just before the attending doctor pulled on his gloves.

The last thing I heard as the doctor put the oxygen mask upon my face were numbers counting backwards from one hundred. The last number that entered my consciousness was eighty-two. That was before everything went dark.

My sights were met with the off white walls of the room on the ward. Also, a blonde taking notes and monitoring my vitals. She smiled down at me and I returned a stiff smile.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Grant, how are we feeling?" She paused waiting for my response.

"Parched," I replied simply.

"Oh, I'll get you a glass of water. Anything else?" She beamed, the nameplate glistening against the light causing me to glance the other way in agitation.

"Yes. Where's my ... my wife, the honey-eyed gal who sustained a bullet wound?" I eyed her.

"Ah ... Um ... Ms. Reilly-" She confirmed.

"-Yes, where is she?" I asked again becoming annoyed quickly. I needed to know that she was okay.

Memories returned with a vengeance assaulting my mind with snippets of what had occurred the night before. Two things that stood out above all were that we got shot and the immense amount of blood that she'd lost.

I shot up immediately in an attempt to vacate my room and go find Reilly myself only to be blocked by Jonah.

"Ger you need to rest." He informed.

"Jonah get out of my way."

"Gerard you are under our supervision. You best sit your butt back on that bed. We know all your tricks." Came the familiar voice. It belonged to Maleek.

He was out of uniform but the air of authority rang nonetheless. I eyed the blonde who still stood there bewildered by the scene. Taking a hint, she ducked out claiming to go fetch me a glass of water.

"Wife huh?" Maleek began. "You must really consider her."

"I don't know what's going on with her and it's killing me guys," I confessed.

"When have you ever been frantic about a woman Gerard?" I sat back on the bed listening to their reasoning.

"I have to tell you something."

"What's the matter?"

"I did something!"

"What did you do?"

I was uneasy as I shared with them the story of the bet and how much I wanted to get back at her that very first week of becoming acquainted with the likes of Reilly. As I thought neither of them approved that I did that to her even if she'd embarrassed me because I'd obviously deserved it. I went on explaining how I actually began to like her noting key instances like when we danced and when I found out about her past.

At that point, they both wanted to pummel me. Jonah had a sister and Maleek had a wife so hearing that pushed their buttons. Even me, the idiot who'd done it, I had sisters and I would clobber the first guy to bet on Avril or Adella.

"Guys, I know it was not only wrong of me but completely and utterly unforgivable." I hated myself for being so stupid and now knowing that I could lose her altogether made my heart sink.

"You are an a$$ Gerard. How could you do that?" Jonah yelled confirming just how bad my situation was.

"I'm in love with her guys," I said more so to myself than anyone else. "I'm in love with Reilly."

I looked from my hands to see both eyeing me as though I had grown another head. Yes, I Gerard Grant, fell in love with a gorgeous safe honey-eyed woman that I'm not even sure will even forgive me once I come clean and tell her what I've done. I noticed the room was had become too quiet that I thought they'd left. It wasn't until I cleared my throat that they finally snapped out of it.

"Let's go see your girl," Maleek suggested and I was off the bed in a heartbeat.

My pulse raced as we made our way along the halls to the information desk turning a few heads in the process. Upon reaching the desk, Maleek asked all the questions while Jonah stood beside me failing miserably to hold in a laugh.

"What?" I bit out in frustration.

"Your exposed rare has the ladies blushing." Jonah glanced in every direction and my eyes followed his.

It was as he had said. I hadn't realised that the back of my gown was opened until he mentioned it. Come to think of it, I felt a cool wind against my butt but I thought that it was in fact the newness of the gown. The women along the corridors eyed me all with a suggestiveness. However, despite the fact that I hadn't been with a woman from the time I met Reilly, I didn't care. I pulled my gown together hiding my behind from all lingering eyes just as Maleek finished using his occupation to his advantage.

"She's on the fourteenth ward cubicle four," Maleek said as he proceeded along the hall, again leading the way.

The closer we got, the more I thought of what I should say. The more I thought of how much she would hate me after this.

Finally, we made it to the fourteenth ward cubicle four. I stared through the glass. To my relief, Reilly was ok. She was awake talking to her attending doctor. He said something to make her laugh and my heart swelled despite the fact that I hadn't been the one to do that.

"Go on in, mate," Jonah advised.

I nodded before knocking on the door. Both turned to the direction and I pushed the door open. Maleek and Jonah stayed outside to give us some privacy. I recognised the doctor immediately, it was Christian. He took a hint stepping out into the hall along with Maleek and Jonah.

Her short coily hair was set free adorning the smoothness of her high cheekbones and contrasting largely with her honey eyes. I held her gaze as she followed my movement as I came to her side and held her hand.

"Reilly, I love you. I'm in love with you. I have something else to tell you." I found it strange that she hadn't met gaze yet but instead her head was bowed. It wasn't until I followed her gaze that I caught on to what she was looking at. Our joined hands.

"Do I know you?" Reilly looked up at me in anger and I immediately released her.

"Reilly ... baby it's me ... Gerard!" I prompted, as I stared into her captivating eyes to see an emptiness I hadn't seen before.

She stared blankly at me, no trace of acknowledgement crossing her features. The warm smile that I began to associate with home was all but gone replaced by a hard expression.

The realization hit, Reilly didn't remember me. I felt my heart rip in two as I backtracked away from her heading for the door. She doesn't remember me!
