I sighed as I shut my locker. Finally after four hours of torturous of Chemistry, Algebra, Trig and Physics (i still had no freaking idea what the hell right hand grip rule was) it was lunch. I run a hand through my hair as I walk towards the cafeteria when I see him again. Leaning against his locker with his usual smirk on his face as if this amused him. He stared at me and I stared right back refusing to turn away and lose. It's been like this since the first period. We may not have any same classes after chemistry but we passed each other in the hallway numerous times. And just like now, we made eye contact. He smirked and looked as if he was amused while I was trying my level best to appear as if this was all nothing.

We looked at each other, daring the other to take the first step but of course none of us did. And so we both looked away as if the intense eye contact we had right now was nothing more than just a mere flicker.

I entered the cafeteria and immediately went to stand in the line. According to my nutritionist, Clarissa Brown, I am not to eat any fatty substance like burger or anything and since the only healthy food in our cafeteria are apples and juice, I had no choice but to get them. I thank the lunch lady as I pay for my food then turn around and stop.

Our cafeteria is just like the one in High School Musical. Everyone is like assigned to a table and that's were they sit according to their cliques. Near the door you'll find the nerds; always busy with their studies, then there are the drama group; most possibly discussing their new play, then Clarissa and Tyler's table filled with jocks and cheerleaders who were laughing. Tyler wasn't there with the,.

As I stood there in the middle of the cafeteria I was reminded why I never ever ate here. I didn't know where I would fit in. Not with the foreign exchange students, not even with the nerds even after I get straight A's and I'm not even a cheerleader yet so I doubt I would be welcomed in with Clarissa.

"You look a little bit lost."

I turned around and see Tyler stand right behind me with nothing but an apple in his hand.

"Not my fault. Your cafeteria looks like it is right out of those cliche chick flicks. I have no idea where the hell I am supposed to sit."

"You could sit anywhere you want. I doubt that anyone of them would mind."

"It's not about them allowing me to sit down, it is more about me not fitting in there. Every one in here sits in the table they are most comfortable at. They talk with people who share the same interest with them. I have no idea whether I would even have the same interest as all those people." I shrugged.

"That's deep. So you are not going to sit here? What about your old school? Where did you sit there?"

Well my old school was this one unless you count the other one back at my Aunt's where, like this school, I sat in the library pouring over Harry Potter or Percy Jackson or any other fantasy book. But that obviously wasn't the answer I was going to tell him. He cannot know that I'm not a new student.

"We had assigned tables in my old school." I lied.

"Assigned tables?" He asked confused.

"Yeah. Uh..I went to an all girls boarding school. Alessandra Girls School." I lied with a fake smile.

"Alassandra? All girls boarding school? You never talked to a guy before or even dated a guy before?"

"Of course I did." No I did not. Who would date a nerd like me? "Just because I was in a girls school doesn't mean that I had no contacts whatsoever with guys. There was a neighboring boys school. I dated someone from that school." Lies after lies. I had no idea whatsoever about girls school and by the looks of Tyler's face neither does he.

"Come on lets get out of here." He said.

"And go where?" I asked.

"Somewhere less crowded and less noisy. If I have to impress you then I need you alone."

"Alone?" I question trying my level best to not appear nervous as my heart started beating faster at the thought of being with Tyler. Alone. Oh god am I dreaming? Cause if I am then let me never wake up.

"Yeah so that we can do that whole 'getting to know each other' thing, then flirt with you and say those corny jokes and stuff. You know the cheesy stuff."

"Ugh." I grimaced. "If you ever do that you are totally getting a zero. Forget about my name, I doubt you'll ever get me to acknowledge you ever again."

Tyler laughed. "Why am I not surprised that you are going to score me? I swear this feels like a test."

"Well this is a test isn't it? You pass the test and you get my name then you're a step closer to asking me out with the possibility of me saying yes. Fail to do so and you are disqualified."

"Then looks like I've got a shit load of work to do. So come on lets get out of here. This place sucks. If I have to impress you then I need you alone."

He held out his hand waiting for me to take it. Clarissa stood a little farther away from us carrying her own food as her eyes shift from me to Tyler. She smiles at me and nods signalling me to go with him. So I do it. I take his hand and let him take me away from there.

*~*~*~

"We are so going to get expelled!" I whispered.

"Relax no one even comes here." Tyler said as he open the back door to our school's back yard. Well that's what the students call it. This part of the school was burned down years ago due to some freak accident and now we all call it the 'haunted' section cause it has been abandoned ever since then.

"Relax? Relax? This place is freaky!" I whisper/yelled.

"Calm down I know that you heard from many students that this section is haunted but it's not. This place is pretty much quiet. Come on trust me. Do you really think that I'd take you somewhere where you would get hurt? It's not gonna earn me any points now is it?"

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Come on Beth. Just do it. If you get in trouble just scream. People will hear you.

"This place is not gonna earn you points. It looks like a dump." I stated.

"I'm saving the romantic spots for our dates."

"Don't hold your breath."

He chuckled and led me sideways, finally coming to a stop under a huge tree.

"This used to be the old cafeteria. Now no one comes here except for me and now, you. Come on." He pats the spot beside him.

"So you got me to your secret spot?" I ask as soon as I sat beside him.

"Yeah. Cause here you can ask me anything and I won't lie. This will definitely prove that I'm not like all those guys."

"Tyler you had a million girlfriends, you are kinda like those guys."

"I dated those girls for fun. It was never anything serious."

"Exactly my point!" I looked at him. "How can I be with you knowing that there may be a chance that you'll dump me for some other girls. And from what hear that's more than often."

"Look I'm not going to make any promises like that. I know what kinda guy I am and so did the girls. I assure you that the girls I dated knew what they were getting themselves into. Most of them meant nothing."

"What?"

"Yeah. Clarissa and I are friends. Like really good friends so we always stuck together. We always stick by each other's side and when people thought that we were dating, we both never denied it. We pretended in front of everyone for fun. That's pretty much what happens with most girls. Yeah sure I kissed them but that was once or twice. I never asked them to be my girlfriend." Tyler said.

"Wow." I breathed.

"Yeah I know. I get to keep up my image and those girls get to call me their boyfriend. Good deal."

I laughed. "Still an asshole."

"Ah that comes with the image."

"Image of what?"

"Of being the bad boy. That's why I have to pretend that I suck at school."

"So you don't suck at school?"

"Nope. Maintained a B average my entire life. But that's going to harm my bad boy image don't you think? Being all smart isn't what those kinda guys do."

I burst out laughing, rolling over at his utter crappy talks.

"You are crazy Tyler Matthews. You are something else." I stated.

"Does that mean you're convinced that I am not a man whore?" He asked.

"On the way to confirming that decision actually."

"Good. So can I know my score?"

I got up and headed back towards our school.

"Seven point five."

"What?!"

And I walked away laughing.
