                                                           Chapter 28

“You have to swear upon your favourite dress that you will never try to give me make-over ever again,” Chas wagged her finger at me.

“I won’t I swear,” I smiled sheepishly.

I was sitting on Chas’ bed and it was getting really late. I was sure Marylyn was going to kill me for this. Wait…didn’t I tell Blaze a couple of minutes earlier that I would stand up against my step-monster? I was already in trouble it wouldn’t hurt if I created a little more trouble for her. After all I had been a slave for her for a long time and now it was time to stand up for myself.

“We are good then.”

“Tell me what happened between you and Eric?” I winked at her naughtily.

That made Chas blush a little, “Nothing.”

“What do you mean nothing? You were practically making out at the restaurant,” I teased her.

“Holding hands is not considered as making out!” she hollered.

I made a face, “Fine don’t expect me to share things with you either.”

“That would be wonderful, since I don’t really want to know details about my brother shoving his tongue down your throat.”

My face felt a little warm as I remembered what I was doing with Blaze on the terrace a while ago. What I liked about him was that he was right when he had said that he wanted to go slow with me. So far we had not even moved on to the second stage. At times it was hard to keep my hormones under control. It was amazing how we both had changed and given up on our player ways.

We were perfect for each other as he could understand me very well. It made me wonder how I had managed before Blaze had entered into my life. He was like a breath of fresh air. Cool and soothing. His touch always made me feel calmer even in the worst of situations.

“Uh Tee?”

“Yeah?” I concentrated on Chas after breaking away from the thoughts of my extremely hot boyfriend.

“You just zapped out for a minute…it was creepy.”

“Whatever…so are you telling me or do I have to strangle you?”

Chas sighed, “Fine, I will.” A sweet smile lit her cute pixie face, “He asked me out on a date.”

“He did?” I jumped on the bed excited. “I am so happy about that…See my make-over worked.”

Chas gave me dirty look, “That was the reason he was avoiding me in the beginning. He hates it when I pretend to be someone I am not.”

“Wow, you have got a real gem there Chas. Hold on to him tight.”

That was nice of Eric because any guy would have drooled over Chas after her make-over but Eric didn’t. It meant he actually liked her.

“We should double date!” I got off the bed and started to make plans.

“Yeah that would be cool; you, me, Eric and my brother.” Chas rolled her eyes sarcastically.

“Why what is wrong?”

“Blaze might look like he’s totally chilled but he’s not. He will be hot on Eric’s tail once he comes to know I am going on a date with Eric. Like some guy from CIA Blaze will interrogate Eric.”

Chas’ door was flung open and Blaze stood there looking incredibly tempting in boxers; boxers, because that was all what he was wearing at that time. I couldn’t rip my eyes away from his glorious abs and well muscled arms. He wasn’t brawny, he was just right. I was ridden by an impulse of running up to him followed by touching his abs and chest.

“Do you knock?” Chas snapped.

“You don’t.” Blaze smirked. “I had forgotten to tell you guys that there’s a party at Vivienne’s place tomorrow…so you guys will come right?”

“Sure.” I shrugged.

“No,” Chas pushed away her hair away from her face.

“That good then…Tia the party is at 7 evening okay and do convince my drama queen sister to come okay. My History homework is waiting for me.”

“You better get back to it then or Mr. Kingsley will slaughter you.” I laughed.

“You are right,” he groaned. “Goodnight babe.”

“Come on Chas…the party will be fun,” I looked at my best friend after Blaze left from her room.

“I am not going to Vivienne’s party…I don’t like her.”

“Why don’t you like her?”

“I just don’t like her…we never got along much. I would any day choose Stacy over her.”

“You have to get over not liking Stacy seriously Chas.”

She grinned mischievously, “I obviously like Stacey…it’s just so much fun fighting with her because that’s what we have been doing since childhood.”

“How juvenile,” I clicked my tongue. “I am glad she agreed to see the school counsellor. I was actually scared when I came to know that she is bulimic.”

“Yeah.” Chas shuddered no doubt remembering the scare Stacy had given us.

“You have to come to the party…I won’t know anyone there. Please Chas.”

“Fine…just this once and only for you.”

“What were you thinking? Do you know what the time is?” Marylyn seethed. I could almost see her nostrils flaring. “It is almost midnight—“

“But it’s barely 10!” I refuted annoyed.

“You ungrateful creature, don’t you dare argue with me! You flout the house rules and now you are being impudent.”

“But—“

“You are grounded….for two whole weeks,” she said firmly while sitting down on the drawing room couch.

“No,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Sorry?”

“No…I am not grounded. I will go where ever I please.”

Marylyn tried to gather words “Are you drunk?”

“I’m in my senses. How come Harriet is allowed to stay out as long as she wants to? And never does the house chores? From now on I am not doing the complete house work. It will be divided equally among us.”

She stared at me speechless.

“I’m going to my room now. I’m tired goodnight. And yeah…tomorrow there’s a party at my friends house so I’ll be late.” After that I headed towards my room. My step mother was sitting on couch with her mouth wide open.

I washed my face and thanked Blaze in my mind. If it wasn’t for his I would have never stood up for myself. For once in my life I did not feel so helpless. From then on I wasn’t going to take the hostile treatment from Marylyn and Harriet quietly. I had to fight for my rights. For a long time I had endured horrible behaviour from both of them but not now.

I was sure my daddy would’ve supported my decision if he was alive. Marylyn wouldn’t have treated me like she did if my dad was alive at the first place. But I was sure my daddy must have been smiling at me if he was watching over me from heaven.

The wish I had made earlier that evening made me smile. I had wished for two things. My first wish had been for daddy and second for Blaze. I had wished peace for daddy’s soul because I had realized long ago that dead people did not come back. In the second wish I had asked for me and Blaze to be happy together forever. It was a little childish but that was all I could think of at that time.

I walked over to the window in my room and looked up at the stars.

I gazed at the brightest star in the sky and whispered, “Is that you daddy? If it is I just wanted to say that I love you.”

This time instead of tears a sad smile spread across my face as I remembered an incident with my dad. I was a little girl at that time around 4 years old; my grandfather had just died at that time. I was crying like there was no tomorrow as I was missing my grandfather. Daddy bundled me in his arms and said to me, “Why are you crying princess can’t you see grandpa is right here with us?”

“No...he isn’t,” the little me sobbed.

“Off course he is. Look up Tia can you see that star?”

“Yes…that star is the brightest of all.”

“That’s because that is grandpa.”

“Really?”

“Yes princess,” he tousled my hair as we both looked at the star.

That didn’t take the pain away of my grandfather dying but it did make me feel better in some way. I used to spend a lot of time with daddy watching the night sky. It fascinated both of us. That was the main reason why he came up with so many stories regarding stars.

I slowly walked towards my bed and lied down on it. An unfamiliar feeling invaded my insides. I had just rebelled against Marylyn. Would she give up so easily?
