Chapter 11: Welcome Home
Garcia's POV
-Six weeks later-
Six weeks after I woke up after everything happened, I was finally well enough to go home
Laying in the very uncomfortable hospital bed, I attempt to roll on my back only to be stopped by something behind me. I look behind me and see the one and only Derek Morgan laying next to me sleeping peacefully
"Derek, wake up handsome! I can go home today!" I say excitedly, kissing his nose to try and wake him up
"Mhmm.. frive mrore mrinutes mrom.." he mumbles out sleepily scrunching up his nose in the most adorable way
I chuckle "Derek, I'm not your mother, it's me Penelope, now get up before I throw a ice cold bucket of water on you"
With that he's up and out of the bed before I can even process what he's doing "Okay, Okay, I'm up, I'm up" he says a frightened expression on his face
"Aweee, I'm sorry DerBear, I didn't mean to scare you, I was only kidding" I pout cutely
"Come here you crazy girl" he says while walking back over to the bed and hugging me tightly
"Can I go home now?" I ask batting my eyes cutely
"I'll go sign you out and grab a wheelchair" he replies
"I don't need a wheelchair, I can walk by myself" I groan as I get out of bed and try walking but I end up almost falling on my face
"Penelope!" Derek grabs me
"Get the wheelchair.." I say out of breath
"You got it beautiful" he says after helping me back into the bed, then walking off to sign me out and get the wheelchair "I'll be back in a jiffy"
Once he's gone I can't help but stare at the doorway where he just stood with the biggest smile on my face thinking to myself "Man I sure do love that guy. I hope things work out between us and that we're together for a long time"
Derek's phone beeping signalling he has a text brought me back to reality, I then picked it up and looked at it curiously
-New Text Message-
From: JJ
Hey, text me when your close. We still have a few things to set up here at the BAU for Garcia's surprise welcome home party, and we wanna be ready before you guys get here
"A surprise welcome home party huh?" I think to myself as I lay Derek's phone back down just as he comes back
"And just what do you think your doing little miss?" he asks me suspiciously
I look at him and freeze "I uh.. was checking the time?" I replied but it came out more like a question
"Yea, okay then" he says letting it go "Ready to get out of here?"
"Yes! Get me out of here!" I say eagerly, jumping out of bed, instantly regretting it as I get really light headed
"Here I got you babygirl" he says helping me into the wheelchair
I smile my thanks at him quietly
"You have all your things?" he asks after helping me into the wheelchair
"Yep!" I say emphasizing the 'p' "Let's go!"
Derek then pushes me out of the hospital and to his car
"God it's so good to breath in fresh air again, instead of the stale hospital air I've been breathing in for the last ten weeks" I say leaning back in the wheelchair and taking a deep breath
Derek smiles and helps me in the passenger seat of his car, then walks around to the drivers side and gets in starting the car and driving off
-20 minutes later in the car-
"So where are we going anyway?" I ask him after we sat in silence for a while
"Like you don't already know" he scoffs clearly annoyed that I looked at his phone
"Derek.. I'm sorry okay? I didn't realize looking at your phone would cause this much trouble" I say my eyes filling with tears
He sighs "Yea well, you just better be a damn good actor and act surprised when we walk in. The team put a lot of time and effort into this for you, and they don't need it ruined just because of your nosiness"
With that I start sobbing "Take me home.."
"What? Why? We're almost there and everyone's waiting!" He says surprised
"Your kidding me right? Do you not hear how your talking to me right now? There's no way I'm going anywhere with you treating me like shit" I say getting angry "I'll call JJ and tell her to tell everyone that I'll stop by the BAU in a few days after I get settled in at home"
"Penelope.. Come on, you've gotta come, the teams waiting to see you" he urges
"No, take me home, now Derek!" I snap
"Okay, okay, calm down" he surrenders, turning the car around and driving me home
I stay quiet for the rest of the drive back to my apartment
A half hour later I am brought out of my thoughts by Derek talking to me
"We're here" he says sadness can be heard in his voice
"Thanks.." I say as I get out of the car and take my few belongings out, slowly walk to the door of my apartment building
Just as I'm about to walk in, I feel Derek's arm around my back "Here, let me help you"
I pull away from him snapping "No, I can do it myself"
"Penelope, what's wrong? You've never snapped at anyone before, let alone me.." He replies tears threatening to fall from his eyes
"I should ask you the same thing. One minute your super nice then the next you do a complete one eighty and treat me like I'm trash" I say not letting his so called upset state get to me
He sighs "I'm sorry Penelope.. I guess I just keep thinking about that day, and I still blame myself for it, so I'm pushing you away from me to try and keep you safe"
I groan loudly "Derek, how many times do I have to tell you that it wasn't your fault? You have got to stop blaming yourself for what happened"
"I know, I know, but I can't help it. I don't know what I'd do if anything ever happened to you because of me" he looks down at his feet, and I can tell he's crying because of the little water droplets that fall next to his feet on the ground
"Awe, don't cry DerBear , it's okay, I'm not going anywhere for a very long time, I promise. I love you too much to put you through something like that" I say hugging him tightly
He hugs me back silently
"Well now, since that little misunderstanding is taken care of, I'm going to go get ready and I'll meet you at the BAU in an hour okay? I say breaking the silence after
"Or, I can stay while you get ready and we can go together like we were supposed to anyways" he says a blush creeping up on his face
"Haha, not a chance mister, you can help me up to my apartment, and then leave and go wait for me at the BAU with the team" I say
He pouts in the cutest way and whines "Fiiiiine, well I better get you up to your apartment quickly so you can get ready and can get to the BAU fast so I'm not a loner there"
"You a loner? Ha that's the funniest thing I've heard all day. You Derek Morgan are no loner, everyone loves you, trust me, because I know I do " I say pecking his lips quickly
"What? It's true. At work your the only one that I truly connect with. I just get along with everyone else because it's part of the job" he looks away ashamed
"What about Reid? You seem close to him" I say observantly
Again he looks away ashamed "If I told you what it was really about you'd never think of me the same again
I sigh "Can we continue this conversation later? I really need to get ready and get to the BAU before everyone's done for the day and I ruin my surprise welcome home party for everyone"
"You're right" he replies "You sure your okay here by yourself and can drive yourself to the BAU?
"Yes, I'm sure handsome, I'll see you in a bit okay? I say hugging into his side and pecking his lips
"Okay beautiful, call me when your about to leave here and when you get to the BAU okay?" he tells me
I laugh "Don't worry mister worry wart, I will I promise"
"I love you so much baby girl, I'll see you soon okay? He says, kissing me then walking off and drives to the BAU with the rest of the team
I take a deep breath and walk in my apartment 'Okay Penelope you can do this. Nothing can hurt you inside your apartment, not when there are police standing guard down by the street, which you saw when you and Derek walked up here. Just pick out an outfit, put it on, do your makeup and hair, then drive to the BAU and enjoy the party with Derek and everyone else' my conscious tells me
And that's exactly what I do. It takes me about an hour to get dressed, and do my hair and makeup. Once I finish, I walk down to the busy street below my apartment and hail a cab deciding it was best that I don't drive so soon, and ride to the BAU to meet up with Derek and the others, to enjoy the party
