Chapter 2 // Grandpa Joe and driving blues.
"Hola Abuelo" (Hello grandpa) Alana spoke through her phone between her ear and her shoulder as the barista handed her two steaming carry away cups of coffees.
She told her a quick thank you and made her way outside.
"Cortar las bromas . Hows haciendo mi pequeña Allie?" (Cut the pleasantries. Hows my little Allie doing?) Grandpa Joe's heavy yet loving voice boomed through the phone.
Alana and her Grandpa Joe have always conversed in spanish.
In college when Alana was failing in spanish class, Grandpa Joe took it on himself to tech Alana spanish.
Since then they spoke in spanish to each other so Alana wouldn't forget.
Partly also because her grandfather was spanish which made Alana half spanish.
"Sólo Peachy. Trabajar comer repetición del sueño" (Just peachy. Work eat sleep repeat), Alana replied.
Jace was as irritating as he was in high school. No scratch that. He was even more irritating than that.
Alana was hired and there were papers that she had to sign stating that she would work there for a minimum of two years and couldn't quit.
"Aww vamos lo que pasó? Ponga todo en el abuelo Joe (Aww come on what happened? Lay it all on grandpa Joe)
"Te acuerdas de mi amigo de la infancia Serena?" (You remember my childhood friend Serena?)
" Sí ¿qué pasa con ellos? " (Yes what about them?)
"Bueno al parecer su culo molesta de un hermano es mi jefe y me irrita en la más pequeña de las cosas."(Well apparently her annoying ass of a brother is my boss and irritates me on the smallest of things) Alana whined to him.
"La miel que es tu jefe, Usted sabe que no le puede decir no a todo. Pero si se realiza un pase a ti , sólo házmelo saber y ya estarás lamentando el día en que dejó a sus madres la vagina." (Honey he's your boss, You know you can't tell him no for anything. But if he makes a pass at you, you just let me know and he'll already be regretting the day he left his mothers vagina)
"Abuelo!" (Grandpa!) Alana shouted on the phone making half the people outside her office stop and looks at her.
She made her way to Jace's office not bothering to knock before going in. He busily reading through some papers when he looked up.
His hazel eyes lit up at the sight of Alana placing his coffee on his table.
He told her a quick thank you as he greedily gulped down the hot brown liquid. Big mistake there. He soon choked feeling the burn on his tongue. Alana chuckled lightly to herself on seeing the sight of him desperately reachin towards cold water.
"Mire abuelo me tendré que ir . Hablamos más tarde bien. Adiós. te quiero."( Look grandpa I'll have to go. Talk to you later okay. Bye. Love you)
"Yo también te quiero Allie . Adiós." (Love you too Allie. Bye.)
As soon as Alana kept the phone Jace asked her, "So who was it?"
"None of your bussiness." She told him already not liking him butting his nose in her bussiness.
The transcripts that were lying on his table were now in his hand and he was giving them to Alana.
"I want them competed and if there are any mistakes please make sure they are corrected and have a copy saved and filed up please."
He just said please. What the hell is going on. Never in her twenty two years of experience he has ever told her please.
"You just said please." She told him shocked.
"I guess i just did." He told her going back to work on his computer.
"I'll have these transcripts sent to you by the end of today."
"Okay."
The entire day went by and Alana busied herself in those transcripts. She only had a yogurt and banana for lunch. She was hungry as hell and hoped that Bryan made something delicious back home.
It was late evening when Jace finally wrapped up everything and was getting ready to go home when Stella came and wrapped her arm around him as he was walking down the lobby.
"Come on lets go home and let me show you a good time." She purred seductively in his ear.
But he didn't listen to her. His eyes were etched on Alana who was still going over the transcripts.
She was dressed in a white button down shirt with the sleeves folded upto her elbows and dark blue skinny jeans. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun and she had her black geek glasses on her.
Jace ignored the girl next to her and only thought about how Alana looked like a greek goddess in front of him. She has changed so much from high school. He thought.
"Get lost Stella." He roughly shoved his arm away from her and made his way to Alana's small cabin.
Stella exited the lobby in a very haughty way with her heels clacking noisily on the floor.
He went in without knocking just as she had done in the morning.
"Come on Alana it's getting late I'll give you a ride home come on."
"But I promised I'd get these transcripts in today."
"It's okay turn them in tomorrow. No harm done. I'm the boss remember."
"What makes you think that I am going to get in a car with you?" She asked with her eyebrows raised.
"Well yould you please let me drop you?"
"That's two times in a day."
"What?" Jace asked clearly confused.
"You told me please twice today."
"Well I guess I am a gentleman."
"I'm still not getting in that car with you."
Alana finished filing the transcripts properly and put them in her drawer.
She collected her bag and dumped her glasses in them. She took out the pencil which kept her messy bun intact.
Jace kept on pestering her all the way down the elevator just like he did in high school.
"Come on Neo please."
"You really need to stop calling me that. And if I say yes will you leave me alone."
"No but I can assure you that I won't stop pestering you."
"Ugh! Fine lets just get in the car." Alana gave up.
Soon enough a sleek black Rolls Royce rolled in.
"Classy." She commented.
She got into the passenger seat and Jace got into the drivers.
"88th street and main. The first building to the right." She told him before he could ask her her address.
There was an uncomfortable and awkward silence which lapsed between them.
"Look I was thinking that maybe we could talk about what happened in high school."
"No thanks I don't want to."
"Please just listen to me once."
"Third time but still not listening."
Alana Chambers was really stubborn. Jace thought. Wonder where she got that from.
"Fine but atleast remember that next week we need to visit that orphanage that we have donated to. So dress casually and Stella is also coming."
"Okay but what time will we leave?"
"We need to reach there by nine and its a two hour drive so we will have to leave by seven."
"Fine." Alana made a mental note as she was texting Bryan telling him that she was on her way home.
Alana phone made a 'ting' sound to let her know that she has received a text. It was from Bryan stating that all three of them were having a date with coke, pizza and re runs of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The ride was shorter than expected. As Alana went to unlock her door she found it locked.
"What the hell! Let me out!" She yelled at Jace but he was busy looking at her.
"Not until you conpletely hear me out." He told her with with his hazel green eyes boring into her green blue ones."
"Shoot."
"Listen I'm sorry about high school okay? All those things that I put you through. I really am sorry will you please just give me another chance."
Alana stared into his hazel eyes which showed sincerity with a mental debate going on in her head. Should she trust him? One chance wouldn't hurt right?
"Alright Felix you have one chance. Screw this up and you'll regret it."
"Trust me on this one." He smirked at her.
"But if I seriously find a stink bomb in my cabin like the one you planted one in my locker in high school I swear I will chop off your balls and feed then to you with bacon for breakfast."
