For the next two weeks, Deepthi and Hari stay back. Their innocent love and interactions smoothens some of the rough edges in the renewed relationship of Vetri and Abi. The stories recounted by Deepthi and Hari, not only are informative for Viji, Sudar and Tarun, but also help awaken the buried memories and feelings in Vetri and Abi.
In two weeks time, their household goes back to the four of them and they fall into a comfortable routine. Things seem to be going well for Vetri and he feels that happiness is within his reach. But what is life if it doesn't throw curve balls? Abi and Vetri get yet another curve ball in the form of slum eviction, almost a month after their attack.
Abi is in her office and Kumar comes in and updates her on the court order to evict people from a slum. He tells her that the slum residents are given alternate apartments in the outskirts but they dont want that and are protesting that they won't leave their slum.

After some time while Abi is reading the documents, she gets a call from Vetri.

Few others behind him start repeating "Collector Ozhiga!" Vetri realises that the crowd is turning rowdy and turns to address them. Meanwhile, Kabilan and his men are ready with the barricades.

Vetri gets angry and is about to go down and hit that man. He turns to look at Abi's reaction. Seeing her calm face, he cools down and controls himself.

The discontented crowd leaves the collectorate. After a few hours, Vetri goes to the slum to participate in an ad-hoc meeting of the slum people. Again, a few people accuse him of being a double agent.

Vetri walks towards his bike and as he is about to wear his helmet, he instinctively turns back and sees a man bringing a lit match stick close to his wet body. Vetri shouts and runs towards him. Though the man has already set the fire to his body, Vetri pushes him down, and rolls him on the floor. Meanwhile one woman gets a thick blanket and helps Vetri to put the fire fully out. With another young man's help Vetri takes the man with burns to the hospital in an auto.
On the way, he calls Abi and informs her of the incident and asks her to help with the admission to the hospital. In the hospital, the doctors inform that though the burns are a little deep and spread out on his left side, the burns are not fatal. His wife, thanks Vetri profusely for saving that man from his foolishness. Vetri too has one severe burn under his left wrist and mild burns on his left palm and the doctors treat him. Abi and Kabilan arrive there, and she talks to the wife and assures her support. Just then Vetri comes out of his treatment and Abi is very worried about his burns. She asks Kabilan to manage things and leaves with Vetri.
When Vetri and Abi walk out of the hospital, they are stopped by a group of reporters. Abi tells them that the man was saved by the quick thinking of Vetri and gives them an update on the immolated man's health and answers. She says that as Vetri is injured too, he needs to go home and they will answer their questions the next day. Some of the slum people are gathered there and one man suddenly starts shouting.
Man: Vetri! Collector Madam! Intha drama nalla irukku! Ithula peru kidaikkanumnu Vetriye theekkulinnu sollittu ippadi kaapathara mathiri nadikkarano ennamo? Athukku collector madamum udanthaiyaa? They get in the car and reach home.

Vetri is speechless hearing Abi's defence. Before he could say something, Abi leads him up to their room and cling-wraps his injured palm and wrist area softly. He decides to talk to her later and goes to shower.
While Vetri and Abi take turns to shower and change, the breaking news of self-immolation and Vetri saving the man is already carried by local news channels. Among those, a few allude to the relationship between Vetri and Abi making speculations ranging from mild intrigue to outrageous suggestions including Abi bending rules to help Vetri in his career and Vetri helping Abi cheat the slum people.
To support their speculations, they show the clip of Abi walking out of the hospital with Vetri and the man accusing Vetri of instigating the self-immolation. There are few videos which quote Vetri and Poongavanam connection and accuse that Vetri is doing it for Poongavanam to win the by-election.
When Vetri and Abi come to the dining table to have their tea, Kabilan calls Abi and warns her and Vetri to be on guard. He informs them about the news, videos and the rumours spreading about Vetri instigating the self-immolation and Abi helping Vetri and that some policemen are trying to use this to take revenge on Vetri.
A little later, Poongavanam visits Abi's home. After checking on Vetri, he informs that Asokan is the one behind the self-immolation attempt and is actively trying to manipulate this issue both for his personal gain and also for taking revenge against Vetri and Abi. He advises them to be careful and not underestimate Asokan.

Right after Poongavanam left, Abi gets a call from a Minister. He asks for an explanation for the video and scolds her for bringing a bad name to the administration. He quotes the case where an IAS officer was transferred to boondocks because of a rumour of a scandal and tells that she too may be transferred. He also adds that since this also involves misusing Govt machinery to bring fame to her husband and his mentor Poongavanam, she may face disciplinary action and may not be given any posting.
Abi calmly explains to him that she or her husband have not done anything that can be called as underhanded and both knew about this issue only that day. The minister warns her that she has 3 days to sort this out and prove that she is innocent. Abi agrees to it.

While eating, they get calls from both families and they assure the families of their well being. The next day is a Friday and Vetri has court hearings. He gets reporters' questions regarding the issue. He uses the opportunity to mention the promise given by the government regarding the alternative housing and that the government should keep the promise. He then denies all other accusations and refuses to comment on his relationship with Abi.
He then sees the interview given by Abi. She is bombarded with questions and accusations about Vetri's past, association with Poongavanam, their separation and she abusing her power to help Vetri. She steadfastly refuses to comment on anything beyond her job responsibilities as a collector and assures that she will always do her job to the best of her abilities and never abuse her power.
Vetri feels very disturbed and guilty to see Abi being pounded by the reporters mainly on the topic of her relationship with him. He goes to visit his parents. His parents are relieved to see him and Vetri comes to his office with his father.

Around 7:30 pm Abi gets a message from Vetri that he is not coming back. She is bewildered and calls him. Vetri picks up the phone.
