Early that morning, when the inspector was not around, one of the older cops informed the mother through someone that the daughter too was brutally assaulted at the police station and gave Vetri's address to take help in this regard. After settling her daughter at home, the mother came to Vetri's office.

Vetri arranges for the social worker to come and talk to the girl and take her to the Government Hospital (GH). Before going to the police station, he leaves a brief message for Abi and asks her to call him back as soon as she can.
He then goes to the police station where the father and son are in custody. He reaches out to the elderly cop and gets a few details off the record. He presents himself as their lawyer to the sub-Inspector and asks for the FIR and case details. The sub-inspector starts arguing with Vetri, calls him unmentionable names and threatens him. Right then, Vetri gets a call from Abi and he walks out of the station to attend it.

A few days later, Vetri and Poongavanam do a peaceful protest march demanding action against custody brutality by police. The day of protest is the regular day of meeting the public at the collectorate and there is a small crowd waiting to give their petitions to Abi. Kabilan has organised a small police force to stand by as a precautionary measure.
Poongavanam leads the protest march from the police station to the Collectorate to give a formal petition and request to the Collector and SP to take proper action on the custody brutality issue. The protestors raise slogans against police brutality and reach the collectorate peacefully. Poongavanam gives a prepared speech about the issue in front of the public, Abi and Kabilan. Vetri is standing on the steps between Pooongavanam and Abi, with the petition in hand. While Poongavanam is talking, three policemen slowly creep closer to Vetri.
As Poongavanam finishes his speech and Vetri extends the petition to Abi, one of the policemen trips Vetri. As Vetri loses his balance, he tries to hold Abi and the policeman shouts that Vetri is trying to hit the collector. The two other policemen who were waiting for this hit Vetri on his shoulders. Abi shouts Vetri's name and instinctively pulls him towards her to protect him. She too loses balance and falls towards the policemen. The blows they are readying for Vetri lands on Abi's head and right shoulder with full force. Vetri sees blood coming from Abi and roars "Abi" and is about to attack the policemen. Abi holds his hand and falls down on the floor. Vetri takes her on his lap and calls her name.
