⚠️TW: Mention of blood⚠️
Throughout the next couple weeks I went out on certain days to get y/n things for her birthday and just on the day before it, I managed to get her a beautiful necklace and matching rings for us. I'm totally spoiling her but I really couldn't care less, she's worth way more anyway. So far I've gotten her roses, chocolates, the necklace and the matching rings of course, matching PJ's, and I got her a pumpkin spice scented candle. I hope she loves it. All I need now is a card.
By the time her birthday came around the very next day, I had her card ready and I swear to God I wrote a wholeass essay in there. I genuinly hope she loves it.
I dressed up trying to look my best in a beige drop shoulder shirt with a few of the top buttons undone and a pair of blue jeans and a long coat, spraying a bit of my favourite cologne on and making sure my hair looked good. I didn't want her friends and family to get the wrong impression of me, but I think we all know the main reason behind all this was to impress y/n. I didn't look too formal, nor too casual. Just right. Around 12pm I came knocking on her door since I wanted to be there a bit early just to see her even though it's supposed to start at 1pm. I asked her before of course, and she said it was fine so I went.
As soon as she opened the door, my jaw dropped to the floor. She looked gorgeous. She was wearing a charcoal-black Dress with these cute buttons and cream-white ruffles at the top. I know that is a simple outfit, but y/n always looks gorgeous so can you imagine me seeing her in a dress when I never have before?
"y/n! You look amazing!" I said to her, low-key checking her out.
"Thank you Jungwon-ah, so do you!" she said cheerfully.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU LIL' CUTIE!" I said, ruffling her hair and then hugging her with my one hand that was free as the other one was holding her presents in a gift bag.
"THANK YOU JUNGWON!" she said in the same tone, hugging me back. "you can put the present over there on the floor. I'll open all of them once we've all eaten and all that."
"Okay" I said, placing the present where she asked me to.
"By the way, do your friends and family know you're my mate?" I asked her out of curiosity. It kind of just popped into my head. I was probably starting to feel nervous.
"Only a few of them. My parents and my three close friends know. I don't know if my parents told anyone else but I told them to keep it on the low because it's not that big a deal anyway. I mean mates have been around for what - decades, so.. ya know." she explained.
"Yeah, you're right. Do you need help with anything by the way?"
"Well I'm pretty much done setting up, I just need to put out all the food. By food I mean snacks. We'll order pizza or something. And people will probably be bringing more food aswell so ordering might actually not be necessary in the end."
"Haha, okay, I can help you put out the food." I offered.
And later, just in the nick of time, we heard the doorbell ring just as I'd put the last cupcake onto the plate.
y/n went to open the door and I didn't realize my hands were sweating 'till I wiped them on my jeans. I buttoned up one of my buttons just so I don't come across as disrespectful or anything.
"Ah hi, you must be Jungwon. Pleasure to meet you, I'm y/n's mum." a very kind looking woman came over to me and shook my hand as I did a ninety-degree bow and said "nice to meet you too Mrs. Kang."
"Hello, I'm y/n's dad, pleased to meet you Jungwon." and her dad, who looked a lot scarier than her mum, also shook my hand as I did a ninety- degree bow to him aswell.
"You seem very nervous dear, you can loosen up, we're nicer than you think. And no need to be so formal." her mum said with a comforting smile.
"Oh, okay." I said, returning the smile.
Over the next hour or so the people just kept pouring in, people I'd never seen before. Most of them looked nice so I felt fine. I just kind of felt out of place since I was the only vampire. Or the only full vampire atleast; one of y/n's cousins is a hybrid which is probably why we got along so well. His name's Sunghoon and he's quite the jokester.
All of us joked around, played some games, talked tea, all while having some snacks, and then we decided to have food, all food that people had brought so ordering was indeed unnecessary in the end.
y/n's autie, uncle, and youngest cousin shared a pizza between them but it wasn't cut very well so her uncle went to go and cut it.
"Be right back" he said as he walked off to the kitchen while holding the box of pizza.
"Ow!" we suddenly hear from the kitchen.
Everyone looks over as y/n's uncle murmers "I cut my finger!"
Me and Sunghoon look at eachother with wide eyes as both of our eyes turn a scarlet-red.
"Sunghoon-ah.." Sunghoon's mum calls. Sunghoon's more able to control his sensitivity to blood since he's only half vampire but me, oh I wasn't even nearly calm.
Unable to control myself, I started to run towards the kitchen.
"Jungwon, no!" I heard y/n's sweet voice call as I felt a pair of arms wrap round my waist to hold me back. Thank God Sunghoon's dad wasn't there otherwise it would be double trouble. All they had to do to Sunghoon was take him out of the house and he calmly walked out while not taking his first eyes off of his uncle's bleeding finger, occasionally wanting to go back but was easy to pull back, so his mum did hold him incase he tried to run for it.
"Jungwon, calm down, please!" despite hearing y/n completely fine, I could not control myself whatsoever. "get a tissue or something and stop the bleeding as soon as possible before I lose my grip on him!" she yelled to her uncle.
y/n's dad came and held me from the front to help her but I was squirming in their grip.
"Let me go! Let me have it! LET ME GO!" I yelled loud enough for the entire neighbourhood to hear.
"Jungwon, you can do this, I believe in you, don't focus on the blood, focus on me, yeah, I'm right here!" she yelled to me over my growling, and as a result of hearing her words I started to immediately calm down. I could no longer smell the blood and her words actually got through to me...
"Where are your plasters, y/n?" her uncle asked.
"Over there" she said to him, pointing to a cupboard in the kitchen.
"Thanks."
"Jungwon-ah, look at me" she said when she realised I was a lot more calm and she came to my front while grasping my shoulders. I looked into her beautiful eyes and the deep red colour of mine started to fade back to brown.
"You alright?" she calmly asked me. Her voice made everything better.
"...yeah." I turned around and looked at everyone sitting on sofa, looking at me with terror in their eyes.
"Come" y/n said to me quietly, leading me to her bathroom. "can someone please tell auntie Hana that she can bring Sunghoon back in now?" she said to the others while holding my wrist.
y/n locked the door and looked at me with an expression that I couldn't quite read.
"y/n I am so so sorry about that, I am still so bad at controlling my sensitivity, I-"
"Jungwon. Stop. You can't help it, and it's completely understandable since you were only turned like twenty years ago right, so I don't blame you and I'm sure no one else does."
"But they looked at me like I'm a monster, y/n." I said, grabbing handfulls of my hair.
"They were probably just shocked. They know how much of a good person you are, they can't assume that you're suddenly some flesh-eating monster."
"Can't they? I mean I quite literally turned into one just then" I panicked.
"Jungwon, calm down" she said, taking me in her arms and caressing my hair. Her touch made me feel secure and safe and so much more calm.
"If they think that you're a monster then we can explain to them that you're only a fledgeling and fledgelings are usually unable to control their blood sensitivity for quite some time and that they need to get used to it." she comforted.
"Okay.. okay." I said, separating myself from her.
"Okay, yeah you're right."
"I can help you with that if you want." she said.
"That would be great. Thanks a lot y/n, I appreciate you so much, you know that?" I told her as I hugged her warmly as a thank you.
"Of course, anytime. And likewise." she said.
She was ready to leave the bathroom then however I pondered a little bit. She looked at me confusedly and asked me what's wrong.
"It's just... that made me really hungry.."
"You could've just said so."
"No, I can't do that to you on your birthday."
"Well it's better to do it than leave and find some random person to do it on. Plus I literally don't mind, and you're hungry. Just have some. I've had a lot of sugar anyways and we haven't even had the cake yet. There's a reason I'm your mate, Won."
"Fine. How could I ever say no to you, y/n?"
I walked closer to her and moved her hair out the way as she shut her eyes and titles her neck ever so slightly for me to access her neck easier. I grabbed the other side of her neck gently and kissed the spot where I'll be taking the blood from before doing it. I've gotten into the habit of doing that, just to assure her it will be alright and that it's not my intention to hurt her.
I let my lips linger over her skin for a few seconds before smashing my fangs into her. I would've done it slowly like I usually do but all that that had just happened got me insanely hungry so I couldn't contain it.
"All done." I said to her as I hugged her and said "thank you y/n/n". That's another habit I've caught onto everytime I take blood from her. I'm just tryna be nice, ya know.
"Okay, ready to go back?" she asked.
"Yeah" I said.
She unlocked the bathroom door and everyone was already looking in our direction. There was a massive wash of silence so I just spoke up first. "guys, I am so genuinly sorry about what happened earlier. I don't know what came over me. I am still a fledgeling therefore it will take me time a little more time to get my blood sensitivity under control. I hope you can understand. I promise I do not mean any harm to anyone." I said and the only thing I received back was silence. That left me a bit bummed but then, someone finally spoke up.
"There's no need to apologise, we were just shocked. We're sorry for making it seem like we're terrified of you, we're not. Of course these things are natural since you're a vampire so there's nothing to be sorry for" they said. And to my surprise, everyone around us agreed. That made me let out a sigh of relief.
The rest of the night we ate, had a couple drinks, some people got wasted, some only tipsy, some didn't even drink much, we finally had the cake, and y/n opened all her presents and she seemed to really like all of them, and it was great to see her so happy. Everyone stayed round 'till about 1am, leaving me as the only one left. I'd told her that I wanted to talk to her afterwards so she took me to the rooftop with a beer for us to share since there was only one left.
"Thank you so much for the gifts Jungwon, you did not have to get me so much stuff at all. But I love them all." she said with a bright smile on that cute face of her's.
The only thing I haven't given her yet is the matching rings. These matching rings also count as promise rings so I wanted to save it for the confession.
"You're very welcome y/n-ie" I said, ruffling her hair.
"So what did you want to talk about?" she asked curiously.
"Hoo, okay so" I mentally prepared myself, and then I went for it "the moment I saw you, I thought you were insanely beautiful, even in the dark. I was so happy when you agreed to be my mate 'cause I was looking forward to hanging out with you more and getting to know you more because you seemed like such a great person, and boy was I right. You're just so perfect in every way y/n, you're just right for me, and I'm not talking just mate-wise. Now I understand if you don't feel the same, but I just wanted you to know this since-"
Next thing I know, her lips are on mine.
"Does this mean you feel the same?" I asked her as I grabbed her chin. She answered that question with another kiss.
"I'll take that as a yes" I said and then she wrapped her arms around my neck and went in for yet another kiss. It was deep this time and our lips eventually started moving together.
And there we made out on her rooftop at nearly 1:30am.
I couldn't describe a happier moment in my life than that moment. I couldn't believe she felt the same, it was a total dream come true.
But now comes the somewhat worse part: turning her.
After a solid ten minutes of us just making out, we decided to stop so things don't go out of hand. But that was the best time I've had in a damn while.
"Didn't know you were such a good kisser" I said while panting as the two of us sat down.
"Rich coming from you" she said back, also panting, leaving us giggling.
"By the way, I have one last gift for you. I thought I'd give it to you now since this is really meaningful." I said as I got out the ring and opened the little box that it was in.
She gasped and said "oh my God Jungwon, that's so pretty!" she said, taking it out of the box to admire it.
God, she looked so cute.
"Here" I took it from her and held her palm gently to slide it onto her finger.
"I love it!" she squealed happily and gave me a hug.
"I'm glad." I said back.
"Thank you Jungwon-ah" she said, smiling at me.
"You're very welcome" I said, returning a smile.
"It's a promise ring, look. Your one fits into my one." I said to her.
"Wait, that's so cool. And that's so sweet of you aswell." she said and kissed my cheek.
I placed my arm around her and stared into the sky for a couple minutes, enjoying the breeze, her presence, the night sky, the stars, everything was just perfect in that moment.
"So um, I'm sure you know what has to happen now that we're together. Well it doesn't have to happen but I really think it should. But ONLY if you'd like it too." I said.
"What, you mean turning me so that I can also stop aging?"
I nodded.
"I mean if it's fine with you that you don't get to drink my blood anymore then I'm fine with it." she said.
"Well yeah I wanna do it so that we can be together forever, but it's gonna be a hard step for me to just quit drinking your blood and find someone all over again." I expressed.
"Yeah of course, that's completely understandable. Take all the time you need and let me know when you're ready to do it, 'cause I'm ready whenever." she said.
"Okay. Thanks love" I said as I kissed her temple.
"No worries. And don't stress, please. If you need to talk to me, I'm always and I mean always here for you." she reassured.
"Thanks y/n/n, same goes to you." I said right back.
"Thanks Jungwon-ah" she said, leaning on my shoulder as we both stared into the night sky. The atmosphere was just so peaceful.
I'm the luckiest guy alive to have her.
