Magnus Apartment
(Author's POV)
Magnus was reading some files when suddenly a portal opened in the hall.
"Thought you're coming tomorrow"
Magnus asked eyeing on the one who appeared through the portal
"Missed you too Baba...."
Max replied while hugging his baba like a kola
"Missed you more my brat"
Magnus chuckled
"Now spill what happened ?"
Magnus asked putting the file aside
"Isn't it obvious... I miss my Baba..."
Max released the hug and took 2 steps from his baba.
"Max......"
Magnus voice was now serious
"Well....Baba....i may have gone to more missions than permitted.....may have aunt Izzy found out and may have kicked my ass out.…..but only for temporary I'm joining uncle Jace in supervising training program for the newbies tomorrow.
"That's a lot of May.... And how did Izzy agreed on you training the new shadow hunters ?"
"Because I'm Max Lightwood Bane...and Uncle Jace helped a little bit.." Max winked
Magnus knows why Jace asked Izzy for permission, because Max will stay with him at the institute safe... instead of going for missions unprepared. They all know Max can handle pretty much all nasty situations. Even they themselves were pretty much adventurous at their age but now the problem is, they're not only shadow hunters but also parents ... More than everything they all faced great loses in life. They're pretty much like mundanes when it comes to their kids and Magnus understood that fear very correctly.
"Baba....are you there"
Max waved his hands.
"Yeah...So what about you and me cooking together. I'll tell Rafe to join for dinner. oh my kid... you seem to lose some weight and here i thought they changed the chef at the institute. These stupid nephilms will never care about tasty food."
Magnus caressed his son's hair lovingly.
Dad you know i can summon food at the institute and it's just been one week since I last came here...."
Max rolled his eyes at his father's overprotective nature
"Don't roll your eyes at your father brat"
"Yeah yeah "
<Time skip>
The family was having dinner peacefully while talking to each other and mostly Max teasing his older brother while Rafe was trying to put some braincells into his carefree brother.
"So did you thought about joining Alacante"
Rafe asked Max while his eyes was still fixed on plate
"My answer is gonna be the same big brother I'm fine with New York I've a life there"
Max scoffed he couldn't understand why his brother is so adamant on keeping him in front of eyes all the time.
"And better opportunities in idris" added Rafe
"Nahh.... spare me i can't handle your grumpy ass 27*7"
"Launguage boy....."
Magnus said putting some more veggies into Max plate
"Sorry Baba" Max said sulking
"Rafe let him find out what he want. It's his life"
"Yes Baba"
Now Rafe was sulking too which made Magnus eyes soft.
"So whats this fuss about new shadow hunters at the institute?"
Magnus asked Max trying to change the topic.
"It's rumoured that they're some really awesome gifted freaking cool shadow hunters selected from various institutes and families and now joining the New York institute for training... cool right?"
Max eyes were shining bright like pearls
"From where are you getting these much gossip?"
Max rolled his eyes at the childish nature of his brother.
"From uncle Simon where else"
Max replied giggling.
"And you're going to supervise them...."
Magnus asked but more like a question to himself.
"Yeah are you doubting my skills Baba..."
Max made a pout.
"Of course he is" Rafe smirked.
"Baba....."
"No I'm not doubting your skills son but just....don't flirt with anyone kid"
Magnus signed.
"Says the man who flirted with half of the entire planet"
Max murmured while digging the food
"Hey...I heard that brat"
Magnus warned his boy.
"Don't laugh at least Baba and i know how to flirt but you my dear brother your grumpy ass is not gonna give you any romantic life"
Max smirked at his laughing brother.
"Well Dad didn't know how to flirt too but didn't he got married to Baba. So shut up"
Rafe glared at his brother
"Dad knows how to flirt right Baba i remember him flirting with you right baba"
Max asked Magnus
"Well he was really grumpy and definitely a cute stuttering mess when we first met..."
Magnus smiled at the memories
"But after we started dating he just made me ..... speechless.
Magnus closed his eyes to feel his husband's blushing face and deep voice whenever he flirted with him.
"Baba....." Rafe called softly
"So....what I'm saying is even if Rafe is grumpy like his dad he can have a love life if he is willing to.....um....meet people and don't scare them off"
Magnus said as a conclusion
"Not gonna happen in this lifetime" Max laughed
"Wait until I come to the institute...."
Rafe glared at his brother which successfully put a seal on Max's mouth.
Later the family dinner continues with lots of laughter and more bickering.
<Time skip>
Magnus was at the balcony staring at the stars while his mind was full of thoughts.
Baba..... ? Rafe called his father who was staring at the night sky with an unreadable expression.
"Nothing my boy just some random thoughts "
"Is it about max ?"
"More or less"
Magnus said still fixing his eyes on the sky
"Why are you adamant about having him in idris. ?"
Magnus asked his son
"I just want him safe baba....I know uncles and aunties are there but the last time when I saw him injured it...it remained me of...."
Rafe struggled to form words.
"Your dad right?"
Magnus patted his son's shoulder.
A lone tear escaped from Rafe's eyes.
"I just want him safe baba I can't lose him you both are the only one I've left.
You know him well Baba....He is clumsy, a life of shadow hunter can be anything but clumsy."
"He is a warlock too son Its not that I don't want him here with us. But he made his life there son. It was his decision. We can't just put our fears into his happiness"
Magnus signed.
"You're bothered about something more...."
Rafe spoke understanding his father
"Yeah ..I'm happy that he is happy and carefree but Alexander always said that he is just like me.... that's what scares me. Sometimes it feels like he is making all of us believing into that he's ok or more than ok and happy but sometimes i can sence his pain. Deep down i fear that he still blames himself for everything. Beneath that clumsy brat I'm afraid there's our little max.... struggling to get a hold and i don't know what to do."
"He is strong baba"
Rafe tried to assure his father.
"That's my fear son sometimes we all become too much strong for our own good. I wish alec was here....i just...."
"Everything will be alright, he'll be fine we'll be fine Rafe said hugging his father.
Unknown to them someone was leaning on the wall with tears in his eyes and hands on his mouth preventing any noise that was threatening to leave his mouth.
