Flashback to before apocalypse
"I just wanted to talk with you" y/ns mum said, walking into her room
"Everything OK?" Y/n asked putting down her laptop and sitting up, giving her mum room to sit down on her bed
"Of course. Just, you have this school trip soon and I want you to be prepared. This is a tampon" she said pulling out a tampon from her back pocket. Y/ns eyes went wide and she looked to her brother and sister who were stood in hallway, laughing silently, the door wide open
"Ye mum I know. We learnt about it in school"
"Well I don't know what they're teaching so I want to make sure you know what needs to be taught. Have you ever heard of a diva cup"
"Please leave" y/n begged and her mother rolled her eyes, walking out
"I hate you both" y/n stated, glaring at her brother and sister who were now sat down crying with laughter
"OK but we all had to go through it" Glenn said
"Awe did mummy have to explain period to you too?" Y/n asked grinning
"Nope. She gave him the talk about crusty socks" her sister laughed
"Ewwww"
Well things had changed since then. They came. The walkers. They came and they took loved ones, tore family's apart. But something which stayed the same, Glenn and y/n were together. He was 21 at the time and she just 14.
"Rise and shine" Glenn said walking into the tent and pulling off her covers. She curled into a ball even more
"Fuck off"
"Wake up on wrong side of bed?" He asked
"No. I got woken up on wrong side of bed" she snapped. Glenn put his hands up in surrender and walked out. After 45 more minutes, y/n managed to pry herself away from her bed and got out the tent. First place she went, the bathroom in the house. Yes, house. They were staying on hershels farm. It was nice to finally use a proper bathroom
"Oh shit" y/n gasped pulling down her underwear. Blood soaked the fabric as she cursed under her breath. She wasn't scared. Just annoyed. She knew she wasn't dying. And it was bound to happen at some point. Before the walkers came, she'd hoped for her period because all her friends had it. However at this time, she'd do anything to make it stop. She didn't have any supplies and she was too embarrassed to ask any of the girls.
You might think it weird. But y/n just didn't know them well enough. She spoke to everyone but she was only close with Glenn and Dale. But of course, she knew Dale wouldn't be able to help at all. So, she got changed, wrapped toilet paper around some new underwear and wiped away her tears of stress and shock. Y/n then walkers over to Glenn who was speaking with Maggie
"Glenn"
"In a min y/n" he said getting back to his conversation with Maggie
"It's kinda urgent"
"I said in a min" he huffed
"I've been bit" y/n told him. Both him and Maggie ended the conversation and ran over to y/n, his hands were shaking as he checked her over
"Where? When? Maybe it's not a bite"
"You're right. It's not a bite. I just needed your attention for a minute. Maggie, could you give us a sec"
"Er sure" she walked away as Glenn looked ready to kill his sister
"Are you insane? Almost gave me a heart attack. What could be so important that you couldn't wait 5 minutes?" He asked hugging her tightly, grateful that she was alright
"I started my period" Glenn's eyes went wide and he began pacing in panick
"Oh shit. OK. Erm...what do we do? Have you got cramps? Does it hurt? Are you OK? Do you want anything? Shit! Should i get hershel? He's not a doctor but he was a vet so he may be able to-"
"Glenn! You tell hershel and I swear it'll be the last thing you ever do. Take a deep breath, everything will be fine. Now, please can you do me a favour?" She asked
"Of course anything"
"I need you to run into town and get me some stuff. You'll have seen it all before. I need pads and tampons. Please" Glenn nodded and kissed her forehead, never thinking he'd be in this situation. It was bound to happen. He just never thought about it. Never assumed it would he him helping and not his sister or mother
"I'll be right back. You be OK by yourself?"
"I'm not by myself. I'll go keep watch with Dale. Glenn, thank you" she smiled. He went off into town to get the stuff. Y/n went and sat with Dale
"Where's your brother going?" He asked
"He's gone to get me some stuff. Woman stuff. That's why he didn't tell anyone" she replied
"Ah, gotcha. So how you holding up? Everyone else seems to be settling into camp, with the people. You don't seem to like many people"
"It's not that I don't like them. I just don't know how to talk to them. I've never been very talented when it comes to that aspect. I've known Glenn my whole life. And you're the peace keeper so you're easy to talk to. But Shane and Rick are argumentative. Carol and Andrea are suffering and I'm worried ill say something to make it worse. Lori just pisses me off to be honest, always asking me to watch Carl. T dog is a Moody bitch and daryl scares the shit out of me" she explains
"It can be difficult. Close proximity with people who we can't really get away from. But, we are all in the same position. Scared, confused, in shock. I think everyone's worried about you. They're worried that you're not settling in"
"How can I settle in? I don't want this to be my life. If I start making friends with people and getting attached, then I'm only gonna lose them. This world ain't built for friendship. Its all about survival now. Look, Glenn's back, I should go. Oh and Dale, don't worry about me, I'm doing fine. If anything you should start worrying about yourself. Too busy solving everyone else's problems that you forget to take care of yourself" y/n gets down from the rv and runs over to Glenn, hugging him instantly
"You're literally the best" she kisses his cheek and takes the carrier bag inside. She'd already been taught how to use a pad and tampon. However she was slightly scared to use a tampon so just stuck to a pad instead
"You alright?" Glenn asked as she walked outside
"Ye I'm good" she smiled. It came to night fall and everyone got in their tent
"Glenn, you awake" after he didn't answer, she poked his face repeatedly and then repeated the question
"Well now I'm awake" he groaned
"Ye good me too. I have a question"
"If your arm hasn't fallen off or the tent isn't on fire, I'm going to murder you" he warned
"Well not exactly. I was just wondering, is Maggie pregnant with your baby?" He almost choked on air after hearing that
"What? No! Why the fuck would you think that!?" He asked in shock
"I saw you two kissing"
"Ye. I promise, we aren't doing anything that could result in a baby" Glenn half lied. They were having sex. But they were using a condom and trusted that condom with their lives
"Yes you are. You're kissing on the lips. I'm not stupid, I know how babies are made" she said sitting up
"Erm...so....how do you think they are...created?" Glenn asked intrigued
"Omg. You don't know do you? Oh Glenn, so young and innocent. So the mummy kisses the daddy on the lips and then their saliva mixes and the mummy swallows the saliva and then a baby grows in her belly" Glenn had to Bury his face in his pillow to stop his laughter from echoing
"What's so funny?" She asked
"Erm...right....you remember when mum told you about periods. And I was laughing. And that thing was mentioned about how when I was your age, mum had to talk to me about crusty socks. You laughed. Well, the thing with crusty socks, imagine it wasn't in a sock and it was actually in a woman, that's how a baby is made"
"You lost me"
"Oh god. Can't believe mum didn't tell you about this. The man puts his....private area inside the woman's....private area and then a baby is made in her belly. Got it?" He asked going bright red in the face
"I already knew about sex I was just messing with ya. That was good though. Remember that for yours and Maggie future baby" y/n lay back down and went to sleep leaving Glenn dumbfounded
"That sly bitch" he muttered
