i had a dream,
i got everything i wanted
"Keith," Lucas grabbed him. "I mean it's you right? You're alive."
"Not exactly," Keith responded.
"What do you mean Not exactly?"
"All in good time, Luke. We don't wanna be late."
"Late for wh-" Keith pushed Lucas against the wall and out of the way.
He watched as Haley was wheeled past, Nathan following in tow.
"Haley," he called. "What happened to her?"
"You don't remember?"
"There was an accident," Lucas recalled.
"It was no accident," Keith shook his head.
"I-I was right there with Haley and Maddie. I was right there-"
Lucas's body was wheeled by next. He watched in shock.
"Oh," he tapped his chest, "My heart," he remembered.
"Your heart isn't the only one that's breaking right now," Keith said.
"Lucas!" Madelyn called rushing down the hallway with tears streaming down her face.
"Maddie," Lucas was breathing heavily.
"Come on," Keith pulled him along.
not what you think, and if i'm being honest,
it might've been a nightmare, to anyone who might care

thought i could fly,
so i stepped off the golden,
nobody cried,
nobody even noticed
"Nathan?" the doctor grabbed his attention.
Nathan turned away from Madelyn, "What's happening? How's Haley?"
"She's being prepped for surgery. She has multiple fractures of the legs, some head trauma, possible collapsed lung, broken ribs and a good deal of internal bleeding," the doctor explained.
"What about the baby?" Nate asked.
"With this kind of severe trauma..." Madelyn slipped her hand into Nathan's for comfort, "we're gonna do everything we can. But right now, our top priority is saving your wife, okay?"
"And- what about Lucas? Lucas Scott? He came in with her?" Madelyn asked.
The doctor shook his head, "I don't know. I'm sorry," he walked back into the emergency room.

"Nathan. Maddie," Brooke and Peyton walked into the waiting room. "How's Haley?" she asked.
Nathan lifted his head from his hands. Still sat on the coffee table they had. Madelyn was sat with her knees to her chest in the corner of the couch behind them.
"She's in surgery," Nathan answered.
"And Lucas?" Peyton asked, looking toward Madelyn, but she just sat stoic, her chin resting on her knees, she had stopped crying a few minutes ago and had yet to move since.
"We don't know," Nathan shook his head. "It should've been me. It was all my fault."
"No, it wasn't," Brooke denied. "It was an accident. Like the bridge."
"No it wasn't," Nathan cut her off. "And now Haley's in surgery and even if she makes it the baby could..." he paused, "she could still lose the baby. And Lucas could die. My dad's in jail." He let out a breath as tears rolled down his cheeks.
"Nathan," Brooke spoke softly.
Nathan took a deep breath, "I wish I would've died under that water. None of this would've happened." Nathan walked off.

Lucas was stable but in a coma. Madelyn was sitting by his bed, holding his hand tightly and resting her head on the mattress next to his body. Her eyes were shut but tears rolled down her cheeks.
His mother was sitting in the chapel, trying to find some faith or hope somewhere within herself.

Lucas and Keith were at the grave yard. Staring at a darkly dressed Brooke and Peyton staring at a grave.
"Who's grave are they standing at?" Lucas asked.
"You never went back into the school that day, Luke. At least the selfish verison of yourself never went back. Madelyn died that day," Keith explained. Lucas sucked in a breath, tightly shutting his eyes. "And they never forgave themselves for leaving her behind. So the next time you think that being the best version of yourself doesn't matter, you look into Maddie's eyes. And everytime you do, you'll know that it has... and that it does."
"I don't like this world, Keith," Lucas declared. "I can't be here."

Madelyn squeezed Lucas's hand, leaning down to press a kiss to his knuckles.
"You're always saving me," she reminded.
She sucked in a deep breath.
"Please come back to me so I can have a chance to save you," she pleaded, wiping a tear from her cheek. She leaned forward and rested her head against his chest. Just listening to the beat of his heart.
"I believe in you, Luke," she whispered.

Lucas's eyes shot open.
He glanced around the room, his eyes falling on Madelyn who was sitting in the chair by his bedside, her head against his mattress.
"Angel," he spoke softly, brushing his fingers through her hair. Madelyn stirred, but once she realized where she was, her head shot up.
"Luke," her eyes filled with tears.
"Oh, don't cry," he pleaded, wiping a tear from her cheek.
"You're awake," she said.
"Yeah," he smiled at her.
"Oh, Luke," she stood from her seat, and sat on the side of his mattress. She leaned down into his chest, hugging him tightly.

this one was a little weird to write bc most of it was lukes imagination but i think it turned out well
