diamond's pov
i groaned , dragging my hands down my face in frustration, x-ing out yet another tab on my laptop. donte just shook his head, turning off his phone to look at me, waiting for me to explain my sudden, but common, outburst.
"baby, this is just as much your wedding as it is mine. just because i want it doesn't mean that's what it is." i almost pleaded for my soon-to-be husband to care just as much about the wedding planning as i did. "this is too much."
in his words, he wasn't the one who had been day dreaming about his wedding almost daily since he was a kid, that was me. to him, the ceremony wasn't his vibe. he just wants to give me whatever i want and not complain paying for it. you'd think by now i'd have it all dictated and figured out.
at first, i was really happy about getting my dream wedding, no limits on price, or no matter how outlandish the idea sounded. but as the date creeped closer and closer, i wish the wedding said "donte AND diamond" instead of "diamond diamond diamond"
"a wedding is a beautiful unity of two people, i just want it to show your personality a little more, that's all. plus this is pretty stressful i just want to make sure everything is perfect." i explained, powering off my computer for the night.
"i don't even have a creative bone in my body. my only request is red velvet cake, to be completely honest. matter of fact, i can plan the food, i'm good at that." donte said it in a joking voice but i knew he was really being completely serious. "look, i know you want everything to be perfect, and i do too. but no matter what the wedding looks like, the certificate gon be the same i just want nothing more than for you to officially be my wife. courthouse wedding or royal wedding, our marriage is going to have the same amount of love." he explained his side, and i understood.
i knew that was true, it just felt so much more real now than it did 10,15 years ago.
"you're so sweet, and you're right. i want to be married too it's just , for me it's been in the making all my life and it's an important day to me." i just started to admire his facial features in the low light , beams reflecting perfectly off his face. i was engulfed deeper and deeper into my thoughts before i impulsively bursted out. "come on." i stood up and grabbed his hand, dragging it behind me upstairs.
"oooo," he smacked my butt, "what are we doing?" i chuckled, telling him to stop being nasty because this wasn't what that was.
i opened up our closet, going to the formal section of the perfectly organized selections. i grabbed a simple white silky dress i had from a random day out. "get a suit or something."
"okay?" he shifted through his selections, setting on some black slacks and a simple button up. i bent down to grab some white churchy looking flats and donte's dress shoes.
"we're getting married. i don't care what anybody has to say about it, nobody even has to know. we can go to the courthouse tomorrow or whenever and it's done. i'm pretty sure we have to have atleast 2 witnesses, i just want my bestfriend to be there and nobody else has to know. we can get the rest of the stuff tomorrow." i told him.
donte was clearly taken back by my sudden change of heart, "are you sure? i mean, im down if you're down. i want jordan to come, he can take pictures too."
"more sure than i've ever been. it can be 10 minutes literally, simple quick vows. we can save the big works for the real wedding. that'll just be the ceremony and we'll already be married." i had been perfectly crafting my vows, and i wasn't about to use them in a courthouse wedding.
my dream wedding was happening regardless. it was less than 4 months away, and everyone knew about it already. some stuff was already purchased. we would just be legally married and the extra things could wait.
"we're getting married!" he picked me up and spun me around. i knew my best friend was off of work tomorrow, and even if she wasn't she would drop anything to be there, and the same could be said for jordan.

i stood at the front of the courthouse, hand and hand with donte, and officiant standing between/behind us. with no color, no scheme and about 5 seconds of planning, it felt like. but it felt so perfect. "welcome, loved ones. we are gathered here today to join donte and diamond in holy matrimony." he spoke to literally just two people. "let's commence with vows. donte, you may go first."
"diamond, i promise to cherish you always, to honor and sustain you, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, and to be true to you in all things until death alone shall part us." he spoke the simple , script-like vows we had agreed on. i knew his real vows were probably going to make me pass out in tears.
the officiant gestures to me to repeat mine, when he was finished. "donte, i promise to cherish you always, to honor and sustain you, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, and to be true to you in all things until death alone shall part us."
"do you, donte divencenzo, take this woman to be to be your lawfully wedded wife? to live together in matrimony, to love her, comfort her honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?" the officiant spoke.
"i do." i examined donte's face and i saw tears brim his eyes, which i really didn't expect. my face mirrored his, but i knew i would cry no matter what.
"do you, diamond montgomery, take this man to live together in matrimony, to love him, comfort him,honor and keep him, in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?"
"i do." i now looked over at jordan who had been snapping pictures the entire time, really. my eyes panned over to my bestie, seeing her crying, of course. she stuck her tongue out when she saw he glance at her, averting my attention back to my HUSBAND. almost.
"let us exchange rings." we moved on. everything was going so quick and i could feel my heart rate set up as i really began to realize this was all real. the man i had grown to love over all these years. we're really getting legally married right now. "donte and diamond have chosen rings to exchange with each other as a symbol of their unending love. donte, as you place this ring on diamond's finger, please repeat after me. with this ring, I thee wed and pledge you my love now and forever."
"with this ring, I thee wed and pledge you my love now and forever." he slipped the ring on to the ring finger of my dominant left hand. his warm hands held onto the ends of my fingers, i could literally feel the love. our eyes rarely left each others, and if they did , they returned faster than light.
"diamond, as you place this ring on donte's finger, please repeat after me. with this ring, i thee wed and pledge you my love now and forever." i followed donte's actions. his hand looks so good with a ring on it, you bet.
"with this ring, I thee wed and pledge you my love now and forever."
we waited in anticipation, knowing what was coming next. "by the authority vested in me by the state of california, i now pronounce you husband and wife! you may now, kiss the bride!" the man smiled, stepping away to not be in too many special pictures when our lips connected in matrimony. our first kiss as...
"mr donte and mrs diamond divencenzo!"
"let's get that red velvet cake after this." donte said, kissing me again sweetly.
