I heard a gulp then, "Hi."
My heart stopped, "Kian?"
"Yeah?" He answered. He sounded as if he had been crying recently.
"Are you okay?" I instinctively asked.
"I'm okay." He said sniffling.
"Did you.. get my letter?" I asked.
"I did." He said. He was probably messing with his hair, running his hand through his hair as he talked to me.
"So, why'd you um call me?" I said slowly, "Well I mean you can call me, its just.."
"I-I know.. Well I was calling you to make sure you were okay."
"I'm okay."
"I went by the apartment today, to talk and I saw the note. But I didn't read it right away, because I was planning on seeing you. I went in and I was headed to your room to wake you up because I know you like to sleep in. And-I-I saw that," His voice cracked but he continued, "all of our--your stuff it looked so... so barren."
"Yeah, I know.." I said sadly.
"You just.." There was a long silence then he said, "left. You just left me. Alone."
"I'm sorry." I say on the brink of crying.
"You didn't warn me."
"I know.." I say now really close now to crying, the tears lining my eyes and building up.
"I know I shouldn't be taking it this hard but," At that moment I hoped and prayed that he'd say he loved me, "I'm going to miss you, and I know I can just drive down there whenever. Actually I'm going to drive down next week, okay?"
"Actually.. about that.." I say wiping my eyes and sniffling.
"What? What's wrong?" He asked sounding extremely worried.
"I'm not in Arizona."
"What do you mean you're not in Arizona?" He asked and I knew his eyebrows were furrowed.
"I'm actually in London." I say quickly.
"London? What are you doing there?"
"I bought the wrong plane ticket." I say embarrassed.
"That's it, I'm buying a ticket to London right now." He said and I could hear fast typing.
"Kian you don't have to do that."
"Don't worry I'm buying it right now."
"What about Andrea?" I say.
"Well-we're kind of ... That's not important right now."
"What's wrong?"
"Well we're kind of in a rut right now."
"Are you sure you guys are okay?"
"We're as good as we're going to be right now."
"Okay." I said as I heard some more typing.
"Done." He said, "I'll be boarding at 9:00."
"What time is it there?" I ask.
"Like 6:35."
"A.M.?"
"No it's night."
"So you're boarding at 9?"
"Yeah around that time."
"Okay."
"Yeah I'll see you at 4-ish, I might be a little out of it from jet lag though."
"Okay," I say hesitant, "I-I love you."
"Love you too, bye."
"Bye." I say as I hang up.
He's coming here... for me?
And he said, Love you too.
But not: I love you too.
Well he obviously doesn't feel the same way.
How does that work?
I accidentally arrive here to get away from him, and now he's coming back to me.
I'll never win with this one, and that's probably why I'll keep chasing.
