"I wonder where John B and Sarah are right now." JJ says as we enter Charleston.
"These Kooks make our Kooks look like Pogues." I say looking at the houses.
"You sure this is the place, Pope?" JJ asks leaning over me to see.
"Pretty sure."
"Alright." We all get out of the car.
There's a spiked fence.
"These spikes to keep people out?" JJ asks.
"No." Kie says.
"The slave quarters are over there. These were to keep people in."
We walk around and knock on the door.
"You think that was too much?"
"It echoed the whole house."
"They definitely heard it."
"Maybe they're not home."
Pope knocks again and the door opens. It's a man. He looks at us carefully.
"You must be Pope." He points.
"Are you Mr. Limbrey?"
"Ms. Limbrey was expecting you yesterday."
"I'm sorry the car broke down on the way." Pope says.
"Carburetor blew up in the middle of Nowheresville." JJ times in.
"Yeah, she was real upset you didn't show."
"We tried calling but there wasn't a number." I say.
"She also expected you to come alone."
"I mean these are my friends. They helped find the royal merchant too. I-."
"The instructions were explicit. Your friends can stay outside."
"We're kinda a packaged deal man." JJ says.
"It's fine, I got this." He says.
"Okay." Kie says grabbing his hand.
Pope goes inside and we walk to the car.
"Look if Limbrey's legit, then Ward gets arrested, and maybe Sarah gets the gold." Kie says as we see Pope be walked out. Pope is looking at us but he's being moved.
"Does that look voluntary?"
"That would be a negative."
"Come on."
"Wait hold on." I say grabbing her arm.
"What?"
"They're going into the alley."
"Go around back." Kie says to JJ.
"We'll meet them on the other side."
We go back and can't see them.
"What if they went underground. Cause in C.H.U.D. when they took people down into the sewers, it'd turn the humans into humanoids."
"JJ. Focus. That doesn't make any sense." I say.
"You see him?"
"No.
"Stop, I see them." I say. JJ stops the car and we run.
Pope and the guy are on the floor fighting. JJ kicks the taser towards us. I grab it.
"Come on!" Kie yells.
"Pope!" Pope punches him.
"Let's go!" I yell. We jump the brick wall and get in the car.
He's following us.
"This is a one way."
"Go left."
"This is a one way!" We yell. JJ isn't listening.
There's another car.
"Turn!" JJ turns and almost hits people.
"Those were people!" Pope yells.
"JJ, calm down!" I yell.
"I'll lose him." He says turning. The car stops and smoke gets everywhere.
"He said he fixed the carburetor."
"Shit!" I say getting out.
"Okay, what now Mario?" Kie asks as we get out.
"Number one rule. Never trust mechanics!"
The guy pulls up behind us.
"Go!" I yell starting to run.
"Guys, I think he has a gun!" Kie yells.
"Shit, get down!"
"Get in the alley way!"
"We might have to split! I don't know where to go. We gotta lose them!" JJ yells before bumping into a guy with boxes.
"Sorry!"
We turn.
"He's gaining, let's go!"
My legs feel like they're going to dissolve.
We get out and almost bump into a bike. It's John B and Sarah. I swear time freezes for a second.
"Get in! Come on!" They yell.
Kie and I jump in as JJ and Pope push it while John B pedals.
I hug Sarah.
JJ jumps on. Pope falls but gets up and runs. He also jumps on. JJ hits the guys hand away and he falls.
We cheer.
We get on the boat and take off.
We catch eachother up on just about everything.
In the morning JJ complains about being hungry.
"We're gonna find some food."
Kie, Sarah and I find a watermelon. We share it as Sarah tells us she got married.
"Am I crazy or is there something definitely going on between you and Pope?"
"Maybe."
"That's not a no."
"Nope."
"Girl." I say. She laughs.
We get watermelons for the boys and walk back.
"What y'all talking about?"
"Fishing."
"Uh okay." I say not buying it.
I hand JJ the watermelon.
"Breakfast is served boys. And don't get used to it." I say.
We get to John B's house.
"There she is." He says.
"Welcome home." I say.
"Not exactly looking forward for my at home check in." Kie says.
"I also predict unpleasantries at the Heyward household." Pope says.
"My dad might not be the happiest camper when I show up." I say.
"No one knows we're here right?" JJ asks. "And you guys aren't gonna get into any more trouble for showing up 12 hours later."
"You're not wrong."
"So that means we have 12 hours to do whatever we want."
"Let the shit hit the fan tomorrow." John B says.
"The cops could be looking for us." Sarah says.
"Have you heard my philosophy?" JJ asks.
"No."
"Stupid things have good outcomes all the time." We all say with him.
"Let's get some beer!"
We all change before buying beer.
It gets dark and we're all pretty drunk in the hot tub. We're also passing a blunt around.
Pope starts rapping.
JJ randomly pulls me close to him and kisses me.
"Hey hey hey! Keep it PG you two!" John B yells. I flip him off before pulling away.
We get out and JJ and Pope have a little wrestling competition.
"I'm outta here!" Pope yells walking off. I notice Kie follow.
"Really?"
"Way to be discreet!"
"Have fun!" I yell.
"I leave, and this is what happens." John B says.
"Beer time." John B says.
Sarah and JJ start arguing about something when JJ gets up and follows John B.
"I missed you, bro." I say to Sarah. She smiles and hugs me.
I look over and see them hugging. I smile.
We see the boat leave with Pope and Kie. Sarah waves.
"Bye!" I yell.
"He jacked your boat, dude."
"Popes poking on the Pogue."
Sarah and I yelp.
"Hey, what was that?" John B says out of nowhere.
"Your chicken?"
"It was a car door." JJ starts making chicken sounds. I cover his mouth.
"Guys we have to hide." I say.
We throw water on the fire and climb into the tree.
We watch Barry go inside and Rafe stand under us.
Barry breaks something and I look at JJ scared. He grabs my hand.
Rafe is stressing out.
They're talking about Sarah being a Pogue. Rafe yells and I close my eyes. Rafe starts shooting the tree. JJ almost gets shot.
We don't move until we're 100% sure they're gone.
In the morning we're waiting for Pope and Kie to get back.
We see them and run to them.
"Don't tie up! We're dippin." JJ says jumping in and helping me on.
"Rafe knows we're here so we have to leave." Sarah says.
"Okay."
"If they know it's only a matter of time." Kie says.
JJ is pacing.
"We should've just gone south. Why does no one ever listen to me?" He yells. I grab his shoulder.
"JJ, shh, please." I say.
"I have an idea. With me back my dads gonna have to choose between me and Rafe."
"Sarah."
"He's gonna choose me."
"He's lied to you before."
"He's my dad. I know him and I know he loves me. I'm just asking for two hours." She gets up and leaves. John B follows her.
Sarah gets back she's clearly upset.
"Y'all need to load up in the paddy wagon and get the heck out of Dodge right now."
"Right you'll need supplies, and you'll have to split as soon as possible."
"Guys, I think it's too late."
The cops are here.
"God damn it."
We start running.
"Sarah you good?" I ask since John B basically is supporting her.
"Yeah."
We get in the water and cross it.
We're surrounded.
"What do we do?"
"There's no getting out of this. We gotta make a stand." JJ says getting the gun.
John B takes it from him and drops it. He walks out to them.
We all raise our hands.
"Alright, John B step forward and get on your knees." Shoupe says. John B starts doing it. Thomas walks over and grabs him.
"Thomas, no!" Shoupe yells. Thomas starts hitting him. We all yell.
"Do something Shoupe!"
"Stop!" I yell getting pushed back by Plumb.
He knocks John B out. I scream.
John B gets taken away.
We all stand there unsure what to say or do.
John B just got taken away for something he didn't do. And all we had to celebrate his return was 12 hours.
