"I can't believe you didn't tell us you two were engaged!" Her cousin screamed as she inspected the glowing diamond on her finger. Then she looked over at her aunt and then back to (y/n). "Seriously, why didn't you tell us? Are you sure you want to marry (b/f)?"

"Because this happened a few days ago." She snatched her hand away. "And of course I do, otherwise I would've said no."

Her aunt gave her a discouraging look but smiled anyway. She hugged her niece and gave her a pat on the back as she walked her out of the kitchen and out to the party.

"Don't listen to her. What she meant is that these past few months you've been ranting off to us about how (b/f) has been feeling a little unstable because of work and it's weird that you said yes to him after making it clear to us that you were going to break things off with him." Her aunt then stopped and the three of them watched as her fiancé chugged whatever was left of the wine bottle, his friends happily encouraged him to continue on even though they knew that tomorrow morning her boyfriend would be hunched over a toilet bowl for hours. "Are you sure you want to do this?"

No. "I would have said no."

"We know how you act under pressure." Her cousin sneered from behind. "You couldn't get yourself to say no and now you're in this mess. Call the wedding off before it's too late."

(Y/n) glared at her, wondering why they were having this conversation at a New Years Eve party. She was supposed to be celebrating with her future husband for the new year and new experiences that would be heading towards them. Instead she finished the rest of her drink and handed it over to her snobby cousin.

"I'll bring more beer since obviously we won't have enough for everyone." She nodded over to him.

"You're leaving to get more beer?"

"Oh please, he's going to be out in a few seconds after that stunt."

"It'll be quick, I promise!" (Y/n) laughed.

"Well if you're leaving then so are we. We're not staying here with him, we'll come by tomorrow to see how he's doing." Her aunt smiled, waving her goodbyes as she pulled her niece along with her. Which was fine. One less thing to worry about.

That gave her the chance and she took this as a sign as well.

It wasn't her fault. (Y/n) told herself as she swiped her card, opening the door to the hallway that kept the most wanted criminals locked up behind a couple of steel bars. She's surprised that none of them have managed to find a way out considering how most of the night duty guards are asleep in their own office.

Anyway, she actually meant to drive straight and back to the gas station but her hand slipped and somehow she made a right turn to the lonely department. She was just curious of how Feitan was doing and as the greatest partner ever she wanted to check up on him.

Her heels clicked against the tiled floor, echoing through the silent hallway. One by one the criminals peeked out of the darkness and when they caught glimpse of her the attention began to grow.

"Look at this hot babe!" One of them whistled, pulling his roommate along. "Please tell me you're our new night guard, I'll gladly do anything you tell me sweetie!"

Their laughter brought the attention of others and their peaceful night was suddenly disrupted as a few began to whistle and try to catch her attention, all wondering who she was here for. Until they began to realize who she was here for.

Slowly she made her way to his cell. For some reason she was nervous seeing him again, even though they were together all morning.

Feitan sat on the floor with a towel over his shoulders. His hair was still wet, he must've gotten out of the shower a few minutes ago.

"I was wondering what guard was walking in heels. I didn't expect to see you." He then nodded over to the row of inmates. "You have an audience and I'm glad to see that they're wishing they were me right now."

"I noticed. You must be feeling lucky then."

"I am." He looked her up and down. For once she wasn't wearing that stupid uniform and badge he hated so much. She wore a black skirt, a nice blouse, and a long coat to keep her warm.

"Why are you here, (y/n)? New Years is in ten minutes and you decide to waste it here? Don't tell me you and your boyfriend broke up."

"That's not what happened," she frowned. "It's not much but I brought you a cupcake from the party." She crouched down to reach his level of eyesight. "I saw your file, your birthday passed a few weeks ago and it's really late but here's to a new year and a birthday wish." She pulled the white box out of her bag and opened it. It was a simple white and red velvet cupcake, in the middle it had just one yellow candle. She then pulled out a small lighter, sparking the candle with life. "And my way of saying thank you. I don't think I would've made it this far without you."

He couldn't help but smile. "You're thinking about me while you're with your boyfriend? That doesn't sound strictly business to me."

"I can take the cupcake back if you don't want it."

"No, I'll take it. I haven't had one in such a long time." He grabbed the pastry through the bars and ignored the box knowing that it wouldn't fit together anyway. But upon grabbing it his other hand grabbed her wrist and pulled the cupcake away. The icing managed to get on her fingers and without thinking he licked it off, his eyes stayed on her while doing so. His fingers were cold against her skin and she watched as he pressed his lips against the palm of her hand, leaving a gentle kiss.

She froze, her mind went blank. Her heart was drumming in her ears. A few weeks ago she wouldn't be acting like this. She would've slapped him, threatened him for doing such thing but for some reason she wanted him to keep holding her hand.

"Why are you really here?" He asked, staring down at her hand.

She felt out of breath. Without thinking she pulled away and grabbed onto the cold bars, holding herself up. I can't stop thinking about you.

"I didn't want you to feel lonely."

"You're lying to me." His voice grew lower and he got closer. His hands covered hers and he held them tight against the bars.

"I'm not."

"We can't let this become a habit, after we find that kid I'll be back here and I won't be able to go a day without seeing you if you keep doing this to me."

"Can we forget about the mission for one day?" She chuckled. "I didn't come here to talk about my job."

"What else did you come here for?" That sounded like hope. Maybe she imagined it.

You. "Just the cupcake." Coward.

He backed away from the bars that were in between them. "Thank you then."

"You're welcome." That's it. That's what she came here for, right? He didn't say anything else and she felt like that was her cue to leave. She'd see him tomorrow morning anyway.

"Oh and happy New Years, (y/n)." As if he was counting down the seconds, fireworks were heard from outside. "You're boyfriend is probably looking for you. He might get mad if he misses that New Years kiss he's supposed to get from his fiancée."

"Happy news years, Feitan."

A smile formed on his lips and he didn't say anything else. She left him alone in his cell and when she returned back to the party her boyfriend was already passed out on the couch. (Y/n) couldn't help but wonder how her New Years would have gone if she didn't put Feitan back in his cell. Then she figured it was for the best. She didn't know why she suddenly had the self control of a seventeen year old but she knew very well that if she hadn't forced him back in his cell then the two of them would've ended in her bedroom with the doors locked, hoping that her boyfriend stayed knocked out all night.

Hopeful that the fireworks would cover the sound of the bed frame hitting the wall.

Stop that.

She shook her head, pulling herself out of the gutter. Somehow fighting criminals was much easier than having to carry her drunk boyfriend all the way to their room.
