MATILDA! CHAPTER THIRTEEN:
MIDSUMMERS

when they got into Midsummers, Kie and Liz saw Pope who was working the food with his father.
"Hey there's Pope, let's go bother him" Liz giggled as she pulled Kie towards him
"Excuse me, sir. Do we have to shuck these ourselves?" Kie asked with an accent and Pope went to turn around looking annoyed until he saw the two girls and smiled
"Cause it might mess up our costumes." Liz said while trying to hold her laughter
"We wouldn't want that now, would we?" Pope laughed, both doing the pogue handshake "That accent was bad."
"It was. I was gonna let it go." Kie said
"You ever seen this many Kooks in one place?" Liz asked looking around
"Yeah. Last year."
"We're in the lion's den."
"Exactly."
"Hey, have you guys heard from JJ?" Liz asked
"No" both shook their heads
"No. He'll be all right. He's got the survival instincts of a cockroach." Kie said
"It's all my fault."
"Uh-- You didn't do this, Pope. Rafe almost killed you. Remember?" Liz reminded Pope.
The Cameron's came out, Ward with Rose who looked like lady liberty, Cassie would have to make sure to keep her head up and make sure she wouldn't get hit by any of her spikes.
"Here come Lord Capital and the Exploiters"
"She's definitely gonna poke somebody's eye out with that" Pope said
"Better somebody else than me" Liz muttered and watched as Wards eyes met hers. She looked at him and sighed. (SHE KNOWS... SHE KNOWS)
Liz talked with kooks the whole night, non of which actually knew she was a pogue or they just didn't know—and eventually ended up in the crowd of people who danced. Liz bumped her back into someone and startled she turned around to see Sarah Cameron.
"Oh my god, I'm sorry" Liz apologized and Sarah giggled and shook her head
"It's totally fine" she said "hey your mom owns that amazing Shake Shack right?" She asked, giggling
"Yeah" Liz nodded and smiled at Sarah "I feel so weird being here" Liz said
"What? No this is like the most fun event of the year, although I wish I didn't have to fake being happy with Topper" Sarah admitted and Liz's mouth opened
"Why? I thought you guys were like the perfect couple of the island"
"I met someone else... someone who gets me" Sarah smiled and Liz raised an eyebrow
"Who might it be?"
"You might know him" Sarah smirked and Liz shook her head as the two continued to dance, and the slightly got separated in the crowd.
Liz danced until she felt someone grab her hips— she turned quickly and saw JJ who had a huge grin on his face as he began to dance with her.
"Hey Princess" he smirked and Liz went a shade of pink at JJs words before her smile turned to concern as she turned along with JJ.
"Oh my god JJ, what happened?" Liz cradled both sides of JJs face— that was bruised up.
"I'm fine" JJ said "it's just my dad, nothing that hasn't happened before" JJ avoided Liz eyes, but she used her hand to make him face her. Liz caught herself starring into JJs blue eyes for a few seconds before snapping out of her trance.
"I'm so sorry JJ" Liz brought JJ into a hug for a few seconds
"Okay Love birds" Rafes voice came from the side and knocked JJ from Liz as she saw Kelce and Tommy starting to crowd "I'm wondering if you can get me a mai tai, my friend" Rafe grabbed JJs shoulders
"Yeah, Pogue, how about you make that three" Kelce added and Tommy laughed
"Yeah." Tommy nodded
"Two ordures" JJ said "Yeah, well, I'm on the clock right now, you guys look spiffy," JJ said "Y"know, uh, I got a couple of orders ahead of you, so why don't you guys just go ahead and wait by the bar? Until then, help yourselves to hors d'oeuvres."
"Giys, JJs gonna serve us some hors d'oeuvres." Rafe waved his hand towards his friends with the them to follow as JJ grabbed Lizzes hand, backing up
"Oh, Okay uh We'll be right back" JJ told them before turning and pulling Liz towards the door and they quickly made their way through the Golf Resort. Liz held onto the bottom of her dress trying ti keep up with JJ as the Kooks chased after them. JJ brought her into the boys restroom where the boys had caught up to the two.
"Hey, man, what are you doin' in the locker room?" Rafe grabbed JJ by the arms as Tommy grabbed Lizzes as they lead them further into the bathroom, basically dragging them.
"Cute outfit." JJ told Rafe who threw him to the ground
"Shut up!" Rafe yelled as Kelce held JJ as he stood up, restricting him.
"Hold him still. What-- what do you think Liz? A four iron, right?" Rafe asked as he looked towards Liz
"Rafe stop" Liz shook her body and Rafe smirked
"Keep his head still. I'm gonna line this up." Rafe stood in a golfing position with one of the golf clubs.
"This is Very Rafe of you, Five on one?" JJ stated
"It's very disrespectful I'm trying to hit a ball— learn your etiquette, my friend" Rafe told JJ before
"can't you handle these things on your own or you to big of a baby?" Liz taunted before Tommy slammed her back into the he wall, grabbing her face like he had before making her squirm.
"Hey! Leave her alone!" JJ yelled
"you shut the fuck up cut slut" Tommy gritted through his teeth angrily "before Rafe beats your boys head in"
"Hey let go of her man!" JJ struggled against Kelces grasp and Tommy let go of her, brining her hands back behind her.
"Your face looks reallv bad. Starting to look like your dad a lot more—" Rafe was interrupted by JJ spit at Rafe making him step back "Oh, shit" Rafe touched his face where JJs spit laid
"All right. It was—" the lights flickered on and off, making Lizzes eyes turn to the door to see the guard standing there.
"Gentlemen!" He said "and ma'am" he looked at Liz in question and the two kooks immediately let Liz go to try and act innocent. "Is there a problem?" He asked
"Oh! Pardon me, officer. there's not an issue. I just—"
"Actually, yes. No, there is an issue Uh, we got a criminal trespass in progress here, Beep! Call it in, right? Blatant disrespect for private property" JJ interrupted, holding his hands up and Liz stepped forwards
"Yeah and I helped him so, like you should take me with" Liz added, stepping with JJ
"Yeah. We're in violation of all kinds of shit. sir, but these young gentlemen." JJ touched Rafes shirt
"Don't touch my shit."
"uh, caught me, sir, and they're about to take me away. And that's what you should do, escort me out of here. You got me"
"Come on" the guard told them as he waved them forwards
"All right. Fix that tie, son. You're lookin spiffy, too. You Powerpuff Girls have fun." JJ told them as the guard held them
"Hey, Liz looks pretty hot for a Poque right?" Rafe asked before JJ turned around and tried to lurch at the Kook boys
"JJ!"
"Hey! Stop it. Come here! Let's go! Let's go!" The guard yelled
"You think I'm afraid of you?" JJ asked
"Come on! Come on"
"Hey, safe travels back to the cut. This ain't over! Hey, hey, it was really nice seein you again, guys!" Rafe called afte them as they made their way outside
"Look-- look, man, we can walk ourselves" JJ told the guard as he held onto Liz and His arms. "I got legs. Can you see that, brother?"
"Okay, we really appreciate what you did back there. but let us just walk out by ourselves" Liz tried to get out from the guards grasp
"Mr. Dunleavy, I see you got your drink. Good, that's really nice of you. I'm actually gonna down that." JJ took the mans drink and chugged it "Aah! Whoo! I really appreciate the discretion, Daryl, you know?"
"It's okay, everybody! Do not panic. Leave it to the men and women in uniform. Let's hear it for them." Liz let out a hoot
"Rose! You look like Lady Liberty. It's good to see you again—Hey, buddy, can I have one of those?"
"Let go of them!" Kie said, and ignored her moms glare "You can't boot them!"
"Excuse me, ma'am?"
"I invited them here. I'm a member of this club." JJ pushed the man away from them and grabbed into Lizzes arm
"Sorry about that." He turned towards Kie "Hey, mandatory power hour at Rixon's Kie, Pope, you as well, all right? Rixon's Cove. Let's roll." JJ said as they backed up
"All right, Kie, come on. Workers of the world unite. Throw off your chains!" JJ exclaimed as he went back to John B and Liz waited for Kie and they linked arms for a moment before Liz ran into JJs arms and twirled her around as she giggled happily.
"Later, losers!" They all ran off from the kooks who were astonished but none other than Sarah Cameron was looking at them in awe.
