By Astra-Galaxy

United Nations Intelligence Team

Type: Law enforcement agency

Abbreviation: U.N.I.T.

Headquarters: Atlantis

General nature: Law enforcement, International Security and Investigation

Formation: 1916, during World War 1

Founded by: Leaders of the Allies of World War I (France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Italy, Japan, and the United States)

Years active: 100 (as of season 3)

Appearance(s): First mentioned in season 2

Objectives

Since its foundation, U.N.I.T.'s mission has been to protect the people of Earth from dangers beyond the scope of national governments and law enforcement agencies. They work from the shadows and are only known to those of the highest authority.

U.N.I.T. specializes in investigating the crimes of corrupt people and organizations, be it terrorism, human trafficking, smuggling or murder. They recruit the best of the best to be their agents, scientists, and other personnel.

Few agencies genuinely know of their existence; to most, they are a ghost agency, a myth to be told of in secret. The only agencies they have connections with are the G.I.A. and the Bureau. U.N.I.T. has no desire to be in the spotlight and strives to keep its work behind the scenes.

History

U.N.I.T. was founded during World War I by the leaders of the Allied Forces (France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Italy, Japan, and the United States). Each leader selected their best soldier to create a team who would perform missions governments couldn't authorize. These soldiers agreed to go "rouge" from their militaries and join forces to perform secret missions given to them by their leaders.

This is why the organization is known as the United Nations Intelligence Team since the original members were a team of rogue soldiers from different nations who united together to protect their homes and people.

These soldiers executed missions worldwide during World War I, taking down enemy forces. When the war ended, the soldiers couldn't bring themselves to disband their team. They had been through too much just to walk away, so they convinced their government leaders to allow them to continue operating.

The leaders approved and privately funded the team while they continued travelling the world, saving people and taking down bad guys. When World War II started, the group expanded to include members from other nations. The team took on more complex and challenging missions, especially in Europe, where they rescued countless people from certain death.

But just like during World War I, no one knew of the team and their sacrifices to protect people.

After World War II ended, the G.I.A. approached U.N.I.T. and offered an alliance. The G.I.A. agreed to help U.N.I.T. establish their agency, and in return, U.N.I.T. would become the G.I.A.'s team on the ground and promised to help the galactic agency with their mission for Earth integration.

With the G.I.A.'s help, U.N.I.T. constructed Atlantis, drastically expanding the agency. They are still secretly funded by the world's governments, but only the national leaders know where that money is really going.

While the soldiers of the original team have all died, their memory lives on inside the agents of U.N.I.T. The sacrifices and the choices they made to build the agency will never be forgotten, even if the rest of the world may never learn the truth.

Headquarters - Atlantis

U.N.I.T. HQ is located at the bottom of Challenger Deep, The Mariana Trench, Pacific Ocean. It is approximately 10,935 meters underwater.

The HQ is a series of buildings built into and along the side of Challenger Deep. The buildings were constructed using alien material that can withstand the intense pressure of being so far underwater. The HQ also has a cloaking feature that can be activated if anyone succeeds in diving deep enough to reach them, but this is a rare occurrence.

U.N.I.T. personnel have submarines that they use to get to and from Atlantis, but they also have a Ground Bridge for more accessible travel.

The HQ is designed like an underwater city/military base, with buildings connected by tunnels and pathways. Each building serves a purpose, including facilities for:

* Housing

* Offices

* Boardrooms

* The War Room

     * Only the Director of U.N.I.T. can access a special room where they will meet with the world leaders over a secure video conferencing system. On rare occasions, world leaders will visit in person to discuss international security matters

     * It is called the "War Room" because U.N.I.T. agents used to meet with world leaders to discuss war-related missions, and the name simply stuck

* Training (weapons, stealth, combat, etc.)

* Gymnasium

* Swimming pool

* Submarine docking bay

* Vehicle bay

* Ground Bridge room

* Storage

* Cooking/Dining

     * A communal kitchen and a cafeteria

     * There are also personal kitchens in the housing complex

* Hospital

* Research laboratories

* Entertainment (movies, plays, sports, etc.)

* Botanical garden

     * Has grass, plants, and trees grown using alien technology to give agents a taste of the outdoors while underwater

* And other facilities

Since most personnel live in Atlantis and have no outside home to return to, the HQ has all the enmities needed to keep people safe, happy, and healthy when living 10,935 meters underwater.

Equipment

Ground Bridge

Given to them by the G.I.A., U.N.I.T. has access to ground bridge technology. They primarily use it for transportation to and from Atlantis and transportation to mission locations.

A brief reminder of how ground bridges allow transportation to locations within a single planet's orbit. They can transport a person to any coordinates without another ground bridge for an exit. Before transport, a ground bridge must be programmed with the destination's exact coordinates. A portal opens at one place for an "entrance," and a second portal will open up at the destination for the "exit."

Special keys called Bridge Keys can be created and preprogrammed with sets of coordinates. These keys serve as portable ground bridges that can open portals to any of the preprogrammed locations. They are shaped like arrows with elongated points and carved from unique crystals capable of containing the energy needed to open the portal with technology integrated into the keys to program and remember coordinates.

Badge

The U.N.I.T. badge pays homage to the world they protect, and the nations their agents come from. The badge consists of a gray polar azimuthally central projection of the Earth on top of a black background with five interlocking rings behind it. The rings are coloured black, red, green, yellow, and blue, each representing the planet's five continents and how they have come together to protect the world.

Dog Tags

Unlike the traditional ID card, agents wear dog tags as a form of identification. The tags bear essential information about the agent, such as their name, rank, agency number, blood type and religion, on the backside. The front side is filled with the image of the flag belonging to the agent's country of origin.

Front of dog tag (using Indian flag):

Back of dog tag:

Example using Nathan's information:

* Surname, Firstname = Pandit, Nathan

* Rank = Agent

* Agency number = PAN10N31-IN1981

     * Agency numbers are issued using a combination of the agent's surname, first initials, date of birth, and country of origin

     * So, in this case, PAN is the first three letters of Pandit, followed by the month of birth (10 = October), first name initial (N = Nathan), then the date of birth (31 = 31st), country of origin (IN = India), and finally their year of birth (1981)

* Blood type = O-

* Religion = Hindu

Glasses/Goggles

Used by most members of U.N.I.T., this gadget is a special pair of glasses with multiple features. The glasses are high-tech and designed using alien technology with features to suit an agent's needs. They resemble simple black-framed, biker-style glasses with tinted lenses, making it impossible to see an agent's eyes. However, the tint of the lenses can be altered to be lighter or darker, change colours, or even become transparent. If an agent requires glasses to see, U.N.I.T. glasses can be modified with an agent's prescription.

The glasses' features include:

* Night vision

* Infrared

* Magnification

* Camera (video and still images)

* Voice recording

* U.N.I.T. database access

* Digital analysis

Utility Belts

Agents wear utility belts to easily access equipment like communicators, weapons, forensics tools, etc. Some belts are designed to be slimmer, while others can have bags attached. Each belt is outfitted with a special bungee cable inside the buckle that is magnetized to adhere to metal surfaces and reel-in agents. The buckle, shaped like U.N.I.T.'s logo, also has hooks that can grab onto non-metal surfaces.

Communicators

Another piece of technology from the G.I.A., U.N.I.T. agent communicators are used for communication between agents and as mini-super computers that have access to the U.N.I.T. database.

Also, like the G.I.A., U.N.I.T. has different designs for their communicators. Common designs include makeup compacts, watches, cell phones, or wallets, but other communicators can be designed if a mission requires another design.

Communicators functions include:

* Accessing the U.N.I.T. database

     * Accessing other databases that U.N.I.T. has access to

* Digital Camera

* Homing/Tracking Device

     * Mobile/Smart Phone

     * Camera

     * Satellite

     * Video

* Paging

* Projection

     * Hologram

     * Image

* Record Images

* Technology Scrambling

     * It emits a unique frequency that temporarily knocks out technology within a 30-foot radius

* Fingerprint Scanner

* Laser

* Listening to music

* Medical Analysis

* Monitoring the user's bio signs (heart rate, breathing, temperature, etc.)

 *Satellite Dish

* Video Player

* Voice Analysis

Agent Specific Equipment

Nathan

Nathan's weapon specialty is poisons and knives.

Poisons

Nathan's poisons can be administered through injection, ingestion, or inhalation. Using snake venom and other toxins, he developed unique poisons with different features, but the most common is his paralyzing toxin. While he has developed poisons that can kill people, those are reserved as a last resort.

He also developed poisonous lipstick and nail polish. These poisons are transmitted to his targets through kisses or scratching them with his nails. Before he can wear the lipstick or nail polish, he has to take a special long-lasting antidote. However, he has also built a tolerance and immunity to his poisons.

Oberon would also take the antidote before missions, where Nathan wore lipstick or polish. There was an incident where they forgot Nathan was wearing the poisoned lipstick, and Oberon got temporarily paralyzed after kissing his partner. The two always carried extra antidote pills during missions after this incident.

Knives

Nathan carries so many knives in his U.N.I.T. uniform that it's almost concerning how many blades he can hide on his person. He has throwing knives, katars, pen blades, daggers, needlepoint, straight back... If it's a sharp blade with which he can attack people, he's probably used one at some point!

He stores his knives wherever he can in his uniform. He has some attached to his belt, inside pockets of his jacket, and strapped to his legs; he even hides them in his boots! He was once asked to remove all his weapons, especially his knives, and no one is quite sure how or where he kept pulling blades from.

Gauntlets

Nathan has special wrist gauntlets he wears on both forearms that contain syringes of his various poisons and a special chamber with the ingredients needed to make more samples. The needles protrude from tiny canisters filled with poison and are located around his wrist. The needles eject and retract when he performs certain hand motions that activate the sensors inside his gloves and transmit the action to the gauntlet's computer.

Inside the other half of the gauntlets are chambers that contain backup venom that can be combined to create certain poisons. Nathan can control these chambers using a keypad on his gauntlet to refill the syringe canisters with the necessary formula with a few simple commands.

Gas mask

Since he uses poisonous gas, he wears a special mask to protect himself. Think of its design like the ones used in season 5. But unlike that mask, this one can retract into a set of earpieces that resemble hearing aids with a press of a button.

Snake Theme

You can't have a codename like Nagendra and not take the opportunity to theme your weapons and your uniform after snakes. Some of the things Nathan wears that are snake-themed include a silver snake necklace (which also conceals another blade), boots with silver snakes wrapped around the heels, his gauntlets have a snakeskin design engraved in the metal, and silver snake cuff earrings.

Oberon

Oberon's weapon specialty was explosives and soundwaves.

Explosives

Tick, Tick... Boom! If you needed something blown up, Oberon was your man. He studied all types of explosives, from chemical to mechanical and even nuclear, and was U.N.I.T.'s resident bomb expert.

He would carry miniature bombs on him that could pack a serious punch. Some were even as small as marbles, while others looked like playing cards. When thrown at a target, they would explode on impact, or he could place them and remotely detonate them using an activation switch on his wrist gauntlet.

He also had flash grenades, smoke bombs, and noise grenades for non-explosive attacks.

Gauntlet/Gloves

When handling explosives, you must have protection. Some of Oberon's protection came in the form of special gloves from the G.I.A. that could withstand fire and explosions to a certain extent. While wearing these gloves, they protected his hands from the force and fire generated by his explosives.

Oberon also wore a special digital wrist gauntlet around his left forearm with a small keypad and hologram projector. This gauntlet was connected to some types of his bombs, and he could use the keypad to activate his bombs remotely. The hologram projector would project a mini screen that displayed the status and places of his bombs so he would know which ones could be detonated and when.

Headphones

Since Oberon's primary weapon was explosives, U.N.I.T. designed protective headphones for him to wear. They covered his ears and had a sleek design; unlike traditional bulky noise-cancelling headphones, they blocked out 100% of the noise. They also had built-in speakers that would allow him to hear certain environmental sounds and communicate with other agents.

Gas mask

When your partner/husband uses poisonous gas, you also wear a mask like his. Oberon's gas mask is designed to look like Nathan's with the same features. But instead of retracting into earpieces, his mask retracted into his headphones.

Sonic Collar

Oberon owned a collar-style necklace made of metal and black leather with a round dark gray pendant in the middle. The collar was integrated with sonic technology that generated and emitted a supersonic frequency (commonly referred to as a "cry") from the pendant that could incapacitate anyone who heard/felt it within a distance of 50 meters. The collar was also designed to only work with Oberon's vocal cords.

Oberon could change the frequency by turning the pendant. He could change the pitch, intensity, and volume. He could make the sound more or less intense; he could make it too high for humans to hear or strong enough to shatter glass.

Performer Theme

Growing up, Oberon had a natural gift for performing. He loved acting and playing music, which transferred to his U.N.I.T. uniform and weapons. Most of his explosives resemble items used by stage magicians, like marbles, playing cards and dice.

He took the phrase "ticks up my sleeve" to a new meaning. If he ever asked you, "is this your card?" be prepared to have an explosive playing card thrown at you.

He had a card storage device he hid under his sleeve on his right forearm. This device could safely produce an explosive card into Oberon's hand, which he would then throw at his target. The device could store an entire deck worth of cards. He also had pouches on his utility belt with explosive marbles and dice; the marbles were smoke bombs, while the dice were flash grenades.

He also carried a silver zippo lighter painted to look like an ace of spade and engraved with his codename Midsummer on the bottom latch edge. This lighter didn't serve a purpose since he didn't smoke or use it to light explosives (but the option was there). Oberon carried it around to fidget with, but Nathan also claimed that his husband was a bit of a pyromantic.

Trivia

* A common assumption is that the United Nations operates U.N.I.T., but in reality, U.N.I.T. existed long before the UN was founded

     * As such, the UN does not know of U.N.I.T.'s existence

* S.H.I.E.L.D. from the Marvel universe and other fictional agencies inspires them

* This agency does not appear in the canon storyline of Criminal Case; it comes from my imagination

* A behind-the-scenes fact: when I was coming up with the name Nick Doyel, I asked a friend for her input on what to name a director. She insisted I call him Nick (I don't remember why), but when we started thinking of surnames, she kept giving me ones from movie directors. Apparently, I should have specified what type of director I was trying to name

* Only some agents have codenames; usually, they are agents who perform undercover or highly classified missions

* Agents and personnel don't apply for U.N.I.T. but are instead recruited

     * Sometimes U.N.I.T. monitors military applicants to see if any would be a good fit for the agency. This is how Oberon was recruited. He had applied to join the Australian military, and U.N.I.T. saw potential in him during his training, so they recruited him for the agency

     * Other times, people join as an alternative to going to jail like Nathan. In these cases, people must work for U.N.I.T. for as long as their sentence would have been. After the time is up, they can either stay with the agency or leave

* While they perform secret missions national governments typically could never authorize, U.N.I.T. also executes missions on behalf of the G.I.A., like infiltrating space agencies to steal classified information or research

     * Or helping them rescue captured aliens

* Atlantis's botanical garden was designed and grown by Kavi Pandit. When he became Director, he decided to bring some life down to the ocean floor. With help from his friends at the G.I.A., who also have gardens on their space stations, they grew U.N.I.T.'s garden for all agents to enjoy

Any questions? Ask me anything, anytime!

A/N: This is all that I've managed to come up with so far for U.N.I.T. What do you think? Could this agency have existed in the canon game?

P.S. I also updated Ahmet's profile and added an explanation about his magic. If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask me there!
