We are on the move for a while now. We are here though.
Finally.
Joel tries to open the reinforced gate but we hear a person above us.
???: Don't even think about reaching for a gun and tell that girl to drop hers!
Joel: Ellie, do what the lady says.
That's a lady?
She raises her hands as the lady points her rifle.
???: Please tell me you're lost.
Joel: We didn't know this place is occupied, we're just trying to make our way through.
Man: They're alright.
???: Wait, you know these people?
Man: I know him.
The gates open to find a similar man to Joel.
Man: It's my goddamn brother.
Joel: Tommy...
Tommy: Holy shit.
They both hug it out.
Joel: How you doing, baby brother?
Tommy: Goddamn...
Joel: Yeah...
Tommy: Let me look at you.
He pulls away, assessing him.
Tommy: You got fucking old.
Joel: Easy, it's gonna happen to you too.
The lady stands next to him.
Tommy: This is Maria. Be nice to her, she sorta runs things around here.
Joel: Ma'am, thanks for not blowing my head off.
Ellie whispers to me.
Ellie: Cute family reunion and all but that woman might still blow off ours.
I whisper back.
You: That's a woman?
She snickers.
Maria turns to us.
Maria: Ellie, right? And you?
You: Cutter.
Maria: Real name?
I don't respond.
Maria: What brings you along?
Ellie: Uh...It's kinda a long story.
Tommy: Why don't we bring them inside?
Maria: Yeah. You guys hungry?
Ellie: Starving. Cutters too.
You: No-
She pulls me to follow them.
*Timeskip*
I am surrounded by girls my age. All asking me questions as I still sit at the table that the girls occupied. I play with my knife, ignoring the comments.
*Ellie pov*
I am so fucking pissed. Why are they all on him?! I know him so much more better! He wouldn't replace me!
Maria: Jealous much, sweetie?
She looks at me, smirking.
Me: No!..
I say with spitefulness.
Me: I know him better than them! All they heard about is the "Infamous FireFlyHunter"!
Maria: You mind a lot, huh? What is he? Your boyfriend?
I begin blushing and look down.
Me: N-No.
Maria: Oh, looks like you have a crush.
Me: I-I don't..
I look over at him, he's surrounded by girls that are so much prettier than me.
Maria: Show how much you like him. I remember mine and Tommys love at first sight.
Me: Shut up...
Maria: Hugs, gifts and love.
He walks over to us.
Y/N: Ellie, Maria. How do I get the fuck out?
He sits down, putting his head down with his bandanna.
Y/N: Always like this...
Maria: You in love?
He flips her off, keeping his head down.
Y/N: Fuck off.
Maria: I heard all about you, Mr FireFlyHunter.
He raises his head from his arms, sitting up. He looks up at her, analyzing her next moves. Is she going to kick him out, kill him? She is a FireFly.
They deathstare eachother.
Me: Relax, he's with Marlene. Back off from eachother, guys.
Maria: Oh, yeah?
She doesn't break eye contact.
Y/N: I killed more FireFlies than infected, you compare to nothing.
Maria: Marlene wouldn't be friends with you.
Y/N: Marlene told you about the Infamous FireFlyHunter?
She shuts up.
He looks over at me, pissed.
Y/N: Ellie.
Me: Yeah?
He gets close to me, from under the table passes me a gun.
He whispers.
Y/N: I can't wait to leave.
Me: You don't drop your gaurd for a second?
Y/N: Not funny.
He moves away as I put the gun in my back belt.
He stands up suddenly.
Y/N: Let's fucking go then, Maria-
I pull him down
Me: How about you don't get us kicked out?
They glare at each other.
Maria: Yeah. Listen to your girlfriend.
Y/N: You know this is suicide for you.
Maria: I'm not afriad. Lucky you're friends with Joel.
Y/N: Lucky you're Tommy's whore.
She stands up quick in anger and so does he, pulling my arm away.
Maria: I know.
They continue to glare.
Maria: You have no idea, do you?
Y/N: What are you talking about?
Maria: You aren't meant to be alive, you were set up-
What the fuck is she doing?!?!
Me: Ok, enough!
Y/N looks confused and pissed. I hold his right arm.
Y/N: No, fucking finish it.
Maria: Tommy told me, you fucking mistake, you were meant to escape to be used as a weapon-
Me: Maria! Stop!
I try giving her a look.
Y/N: What? What is she talking about?
He pulls off me, looking at me and stepping back.
Y/N: What is she talking about? You know something?
Me:...Cutter, she's just trying to get under your skin.
Maria: Sure. Yeah. Whatever. FireFlyHunter, karma will make you pay for everything.
Y/N: Do you think I asked for this?!
The caf goes quiet and listens in.
He leaves.
*Readers pov*
The cold feels nice as the clothes I have warms me. The longsleeve shirt is coming in handy.
The air blows my clothes in the wind as I sit at the high height of the building whilst looking down at the people working and talking.
I got in through the window behind me, it was opened and I just climed through.
The damp enviroment is one of the worst climates of cold and uncomfortable conditions but it's ok for my clothes as long as they themselve don't get wet too.
I pull out my pistol as I lay on the roof.
You: What did she mean?
Maria said I was a mistake...I don't know what she means..
I trust Ellie, I trust Joel too, they would have told me if they knew something I don't.
Theres footsteps arriving to me.
I still look up at the sky as they stop. I just point my gun in the direction.
Ellie:...Hey.
I drop my arm dead.
She sits next to me.
Ellie: Dude?
I don't respond, just laying back.
She suddenly pulls my arm for me to sit up. I sit up, sheepishly.
Ellie: She's just trying to hurt you best she can. She knows Joel wouldn't forgive Tommy if something happend to you due to her so she...improvised.
She raises her hands around trying to sum this up.
You: You shouldn't care.
Ellie: But I do.
She shrugs a bit, looking at me in the eyes.
Ellie: Oh!
She reaches in her bag. She rummages around and pulls out some headphones and a cassette player thats connected to it.
Ellie: Found this,
She extends her arm. Blushing red.
Ellie: T-Thought th-that...
She puts her head down, trying to gather courage to finish her sentance.
Ellie: Y-You would like it.
I take it from her hand, slightly blushing.
You:...T-Thanks, Ellie.
She puts her hands behind her back, looks up at me and does a warming smile while still red.
Ellie: W-welcome, dude!
She made my heart skip a beat, her cute face, funny attitude...I just can't stop looking at her eyes.
I wake myself up.
She opens the cassete cartiage and puts in a cassette.
Ellie: Found these cassettes from Bills place and didn't know when to give you it.
I pull down my bandanna.
Face to face.
You: I really appreciate it.
Ellie: Let's try it out.
We sit at the edge as she puts the headphones around her head and on her ears as I click the play button. The cassette spins and I hear the music from the headphones.
(Sorry if its too cheesy for you, pick another song but I think I should let songs into the book for better emotional connection to the enviroment, ignore if you don't like it much cuz its a big change understandably)
She puts it on my ears as she looks me into my eyes, waiting for a reaction.

She's making me have a soft spot now..I can't let this happen.
The song has a dark meaning of murder due to a person thats in love but the song has a somewhat very warming feeling.
We look at eachothers eyes as I put the headphones down, we continue to look as the song is still heard on the ground.
We move closer to eachother slowly. Closer...closer...
The window behind us opens suddenly with Maria popping out.
Maria: Get the fuck up, there's trouble!
We immediately jump back from eachother, blushing.
I pack my shit up, clicking on the pause button for the cassete player.
