Every Tear I Cry is Goodbye

A/N: Okay, so I have a fair few 'toxic' relationships in my life. This poem can relate to many of them. Because I wrote this a few months ago I'm not entirely sure which relationship this is about. I have a pretty good idea though and I'm proud to say that unhealthy friendship is gone from my life and I feel a lot better now. It's sad to think I was carrying these emotions around deep inside me for years  when I could have just let go and been happy. To everybody out there holding onto weighty relationships this poem is for you. I hope it helps you realise you're better than that and you deserve to be happier. Enjoy :)

 My heart is broken,

Like cracks in the sidewalk.

The love we had now trampled by your footsteps.

Our relationship vacated, you gave no second glance.

Standing on the pavement, I’m the dirt on your shoes.

Crying on my lonesome because I’m second to you.

You left me years ago,

Now I have to let go.

You want me back where I belong,

You’re begging me home with tears in your eyes.

But it’s too late,

My mind’s on repeat from all those times you broke me down on the inside.

Those sleepless nights full of hurt,

When my heart beat your venom.

Those days of agony,

When I was screaming through my teeth.

It’s time I boxed up your poison,

Swept away your lingering cobwebs.

I have a new life ahead

But I have to leave you behind.

Those summer BBQ’s,

Campouts after dark.

Those bonds we shared

And laughter we breathed.

I’m severing those binding ties,

Setting us both free to fly,

If only I could go without

These long ago summer memories.

But now every tear I cry,

Is laced with your memory,

Your bittersweet memory,

As I write our goodbye.

Words will tell our story as it comes to a close.

But as my pen dots my ‘i’ all I can think is

I have to let go, I love you,

Goodbye.
