If someone would've told me I'd be on my third relationship, but my second time falling for my partner I wouldn't believe it. Well let's recap, I married Abby on a wild night in Vegas. As soon as I said I do I knew I would regret it, that moment came quickly. I wanted an annulment the next morning, I had already gathered the annulment papers before she even woken up. I felt like I had failed my mom, I wasn't in the right frame of mind and I needed to get better. So after that insane period in my life I packed my bags and moved home, the Windy City of Chicago. That's were I met the love of my life, Erin Lindsay!
Erin was love at first sight, she changed my life. She was everything thing I imagined and more, she made the hard days bearable, and the good days worth it. My ex wife came back into the picture, and I did the one I know I should've never done. I kept a secret, from her and it blew up in my face. I always begged her to let me in, and when it was my turn I decided to bottle it all in. I know the team blames her for what happened to me, but if I'm being honest with myself it's all my fault. I knew she could carry the load, I was just afraid that she would say my load was to heavy and leave. Instead I pushed her away, I broke her heart. Every man that has come into her life, has hurt her. I promised myself I would be different, but it turns out I'm just like the rest of them.
Now on to Hailey, she was there when the shit hit the fan when Erin left. I hated her because she was just the replacement. She couldn't replace Erin, no one could. Over time she grew on me, she stuck beside me and helped me when life got rough. One day she got the exact same offer, but Hailey picked me. That's why we're together today, some one picked me for a chance. We've been dating for 2 months, and I asked her to marry me, I'm not getting any younger and I want a family.
Everything was going great, but lately she been acting weird, very paranoid and she not sleeping at night. I honestly don't understand what is happening. I asked Hank and he told me she killed Roy, and that he got rid of the body. I was furious, so I punched him in the face. This wasn't the first time he's brought someone I loved down. I asked Hailey what happened that night and she told me, I couldn't believe it. How could I blame Hank when she went on her own will, Hank didn't put a gun to her head and make her go. I was so blinded by love that I dismissed all the signs, she's was just trying to replace Erin. She wanted that power and control that Erin had. She wanted to be his right hand so bad, I thought this was what I wanted but I'm not sure anymore.
I have to start building a life I want my kids to have. My fiancé is a murderer, and all she wants is to be Hanks right hand. How I can I stand by her and not feel compelled to leave?
Chapter 1
"Hey Jay, we're going to Molly's tonight. Do you wannna go?"
"Nah Ruz, I'm good I have to do something this weekend I'll see you all Monday."
"Jay, where are you going? I didn't know you had plans this weekend."
"It's personal, but I'll call you later."
"You can tell me!"
"It's personal, I'm not ready to say yet!"
"Well okay then, are you going to be gone the whole weekend?"
"Yea, but I'll be back Monday before shift!"
"Alright, I'll see you Monday then! Love you!"
"Alright bye guys, have fun at Molly's!"
After that Jay left, but wouldn't return till Monday. So for that entire weekend Hailey laid in the bed alone worrying about Jay. He never mentioned spending the weekend away, so Hailey thought it was strange. The rest of the team also thought it was strange to, but no one questioned it. As long as he returned for his shift on Monday all would be fine.
When Jay returned that Monday something was different, he was now the one acting strange. No one knew what had happened, but what ever happened changed him for sure. His focus for the job started slipping and everyone noticed it, but it wasn't until Hank told him he was starting to slip again that he then realized.
Jay didn't really care, he had more important things to worry about. Jay had 5 days to get himself together before leaving again. No one knew what happening behind the scene, but as the week went on Jay started getting happier.
"Hey the big game is coming on tonight, we're hitting up Molly's for a little pregame then heading to the game. Are you in Jay, we got you a ticket."
"Umm sorry guys I gotta have something to do this weekend again, but I'll see you all Monday."
"What's going on Jay, this is the second weekend you've blown us completely off. You would never skip out on the Blackhawks in the playoffs."
"Yea, Jay what's going on? You've barely spoken to me this week. You've been super distant, is it something I did?"
"Umm no it's not you, lately I've been feeling myself slipping. I didn't want to go back down that slippery slope, so I'm just getting myself better. I've been seeing a therapist, and he advised that I just take time out on the weekend to really get to know myself so that's what I've been doing. I've got a big thing this weekend. You guys go to the game, and let me know every detail possible."
"Halstead my office?"
"Sarge?"
"What's really going on?"
"Nothing, just taking some time to get myself and life together."
"Shouldn't you be doing that with your fiancé?"
"My therapist suggested me working on myself will allow me to be better for my relationship."
"I know there's something you're not telling me."
"I'm just working on myself sir, that's all."
"Whatever you say Halstead!"
Jay turned around and grabbed his jacket and left again. Hailey was starting to feel shut out and the team was also concerned. He wasn't reachable after he left the station and that's what concerned everyone. Everyone continued on and Jay was gone again. Then Monday rolled around again.
"Welcome back Jay, how was your weekend?"
"It went Better than I thought it would."
"So what was so important that you blew off a Blackhawks playoff game?"
"My health, I just felt I was back sliding so I'm working through my past. I am getting better that I can guarantee that. How was the game?"
"It was amazing, Patrick Kane hit the...."
"We caught a case, suit up!"
"Tell me later!"
Hank and the team arrived at the scene. There was a mother screaming in agony, no one knew what was happening. That was until they saw the medical examiner covering the body of a tender aged male. Kids were a big trigger for Jay and the team, but now even more so for Jay. Jay stepped to the side and took a few deep breathes before getting completely focused in. This case officially hit home for Jay. He helped the team collect evidence before heading back to the district.
Jay was first to start processing the evidence that was collected. This was a case that he needed to be solved as soon as possible. Within the first 2 days of having the case, Jay was able to reconstruct the crime scene and analyze majority of the evidence.
"Okay, so we have Shawn Williams, 6 years old. He went to Brooksdale elementary, according to his mom he was selling candy for his tee ball team. He's well know amongst his community, neighbors said he was a really sweet kid, and very respectful. This shouldn't have happened."
"From the pod cams, we see that Shawn was holding a box of candy. He was going door to door, selling it to his neighbors. If you look closely you can see as he passed the alley it looks like something or someone called him. Instead of going to the next house he went to the alley, his mom said she taught him not to talk to strangers. He lived in the neighborhood so I'm guessing he had to have known his killer."
"That seems logical, is there any footage where we can see the assailants face?"
"Yea, I had tech process a few other angles and this is what we got."
"This is Roger Smith, 47 years old. He's on the registered sex offenders list. According to his address he lives 8 blocks down the street. On his file it says he has an ankle monitor."
"If he had an ankle monitor how the hell did he leave his property, and why wasn't the police notified?"
"According to the history of the monitor he never left the property."
"We have video evidence of him being seen with the victim right before his death. I want a location in the next 20 minutes!"
"On it boss!"
Everyone started searching for more evidence and a location on the suspect. Hailey sent a patrol unit to the address on file for Roger, but came up empty handed.
"The house was vacant and neighbors said Roger moved out after he received death threats."
"Do we know who was threatening him?"
"According to the neighbors, it was the dads of the tee ball team."
"Okay so we might have a motive, Shawn's father threatened him and he got revenge."
"We got a possible location on Roger Smith!!"
"Have patrol pick up Mr.Williams, and everyone else suit up!"
The team headed downstairs to the garage to suit up. Kim was have a little trouble with her vest, Jay had a quick mental flash back but quickly shook it off. Adam walked up behind her and helped her out.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"Yea, why wouldn't I be!"
"I saw you staring at Kim, then you smiled. What was up with that?"
"Nothing I just had a flashback that's all. You ready to go?"
"Yea, and Jay can we talk later when we get home?"
"Umm, sure that's fine."
