Sai entered the classroom with her mind much more occupied than the bundle of books in her hands. There were no cheerful 'Hi' that she usually does while entering in the class. She quietly went to sit beside Aniket. Lecture ended on time, everyone felt unusualness in a day. It took all of them some time to realise they didn't have their usual doubt clearing session between Sai and their professor. She didn't even raise her hand to answer synthetically complex questions.
"Let's go to canteen? Sai are you coming?" Milind asked
"Haan chalo" Sai replied
"I told you guys she is unwell. Amy, check her temperature. Milind, get a glass of water" Ajinkya said, panicking
"What happen? Why are you guys behaving like that?" Sai confusingly asked
"That is what we are asking, what happen to you today? You aren't behaving like yourself." Aniket said
"Usual self? What is that? I am all fine!"
"You agreed to come to canteen in your library time! Didn't bugged Nirmala ma'am with your heavy questions" Ajinkya reasoned
"I didn't have any questions! What do think I always have doubts?!" she annoyingly replied
"Fortunately, or unfortunately you always have!" Amy teased
"You guys don't want me to come along, no? Fine . . . I will go to library!!!!" she frustrated and walked towards the main exit
"Saiiiiiii . . . Library is on the left" Aniket loudly said
"Haan I know! I am taking a longer route!" she irked and left
"Kya hua hai isko?" Amy wondered
"If you have guts go and ask!" Ajinkya sarcastically said
"Let her calm down a bit. Evening me pakadte hai. Where will she run away from us?" Amy said while everyone nodded with a laugh
Here, Sai was feeling irritated almost with everyone and everything. She even knew those innocent people around us weren't at fault it was all because of her restlessly anxious heart. She felt bad for talking rudely with her friends within few minutes she took a 'U turn' and went back to her friends.
"Three Sandwiches, Two Samosas, Four cold drink? Bus na?" Milind reassured before ordering
"One more sandwich and cold coffee for me" Sai mended in
Few words communicated through eyes and smile appeared on their faces while Sai pulled the chair.
"You know Sudesh is getting married to fourth year's Archi ma'am " Ajinkya started with daily hot news update
"Sudesh? Apni class wala?" Aniket shocked
"Haa wahi." He confirmed
"How did Archi Ma'am agreed? Ye match kaise hua?" Amy asked
"Areee, Sudesh was her senior. Technically he should be in fifth year but this is his fourth year in Second year" Ajinkya said
"Looking at his traits he will become our junior soon" Milind giggled
"But why he is getting married this soon?" Amy asked
"May be his family want to!" he guessed
"How old is he?" Aniket asked
"Hoga 26-27 ka!" Milind said
"Waise tum log kab tak karoge?" Ajinkya casually asked
"Not before completing DM in medicine" Amy replied
"Me too not before 35! I want to explore the bachelorhood man!!!!!!" Aniket laughingly said
"Beta, dekhna kahi bachelorhood karte karte budhapa naa aa jaye (Be careful! If you keep enjoying like that. You will keep waiting till you become unmarried dada ji" Ajinkya teased
"I will look handsome in my old age as well" Aniket joked.
"Don't think of yourself as some stud!!" Amy laughed
Sai being the mute spectator in the whole conversation. The whole marriage topic was adding to her annoyance.
"Hey, I was wondering Sai's Virat sir might be stud in his college days. Because of Sai he has got huge fan base in our college as well. I have seen group of juniors going mushy-mushy over him" Milind casually said
"His family will get a tough time to find suitable match for him" Ajinkya joined
"Pagal ho kya?! I don't think his family have to! He might be having someone, kyu Sai?" Aniket chuckled
"Aree how will Sai know! Why would he share these things with her!!" Milind guessed in his own
The last pin holding Sai's patience loosened. Imagining Virat with some other girl unleashed fury filled anguish within her.
"Can't you guys talk about some sensible things??? Kabse iski shadi uski shadi laga rakha hai?! (Why are you so concerned about everyone's marriage?)" Sai frustratingly got up to leave
"Saiiiii. . . What happen?" Aniket concerned
"It will be better for me to stay alone for some time. See you all in the class" she immediately left.
Single thought was stuck on her mind, that was disturbing her to the core.
With her pacing battle of intellect she came back home. While driving back home, Virat was continuously warning his mind not to think about that 'silly slip of tongue'. It was wrong in his eyes. One side of his brain want him to forget about that thought while other one was digging out every past events to let him fly on.
'Why does Villagers asked me to get married to Sai? What do they saw in me? Do they find me capable for their Sai? What would I do if they ask me now? Can I still deny?' There were many such unanswerable questions in his mind that he was asking himself again and again.
He got a call from his senior informing him about an official tour for a week. He had to report to the head office in three hours. Thinking about long seven days without meeting someone, his car automatically took a 'U-turn'. He collected his usual two mango smoothies and one mixed berry on his way.
"Here!!!! Your mixed berry smoothie!! Laut ke milta hoon" He quickly passed it to Sunny and hurried to meet Sai.
Hearing a door bell, Sai ran to the door. As soon she opened the door Virat held her hand and pulled her out "Come out I don't have much time!!"
"What happen?" Sai confusingly asked
"I have to leave immediately for an official tour for week. I come to say good bye to you" he shared
"Anything serious? Any thing dangerous?" Sai panicked
"Nothing serious. Don't worry!" he assured
"Kab jana hai?' she asked
"In few hours! I might not pick your call or reply to your messages. So don't roam around unnecessarily in my absence. And study well and eat well" he instructed
"When will you come back?" she slowly asked
"In a week. Hmm . . . looks like someone is going to miss me a lot" he teased with a slight smile
"I was just asking out of courtesy" Sai said, loud enough to hide her heavy heartbeats
"Bye . . .then . . ." he said while slowly walking back
"Bye" she slowly whispered
"Waise, I don't mind if you miss me. You can miss me . ." he teasingly said. He kept looking at her. He wanted to fill all his eyes with her as he won't be seeing her soon. He knew he can't do that for long as time was running at its usual pace and he had to leave. He took a step back with his eyes fixed on her. Looking at Virat going away from him Sai ran to hug him and clutched her fingers onto the back of his shirt. "Take care of yourself Virat sir" she softly murmured
"I will!" he overwhelmingly said while tightening the hug.
"Whenever you get time, if possible, do text me" she said
"I will"
"Eat healthy" she said
"I will" he replied he knew he couldn't stay more. Breaking that hug was much harder than all the task he had done in his training days. But he knew he had to! 'Sai . . .' he caressed her head and pulled himself away from her
"I have to leave now!" He said without making an eye contact and quickly turned to leave before he feel weak again
She wiped her tears and waved with a smile.
'You love this girl!' His inner voice said
"Yes, I do" he loudly mumbled. It wasn't loud enough for Sai to hear but it was much louder for his brain to accept the long-awaited truth. He left with a smile on his lips but fear in his heart . . . .
With this they stepped upto the Sixth stage- Acceptance and Denial. Each of them were at differently same side; Virat finally realised his feeling though he was still in denial mode.
whereas Sai is yet to realise hers. . .It is just a beginning still a long way awaits. . .
