I jumped as I felt someone's hands on my shoulders then I remembered, of course, Benny was still here. "Aww your so cute when your working" he cooed
"Well lots of work to do," I sighed continuing on with everything
"Well, I'll leave my busy little kitty to her work then." He smirked kissing my hand "see you around kitten"
I sighed and slightly groaned as he left my office, why did I ever shack up with that infernal boy. It wasn't ever anything more than a roll in the hay I don't even want to call us friends with benefits because we weren't even friends. I did my best to focus on my mindless work of adding commas and full stops as well as editing the horrific manuscript unable to stop my mind from wondering,
I walked down the empty old streets full of cars, trash and various dust. I had just started my dream job as an editor for Hardwick publishing and my boss sent me off to get the information on a poteional manuscript apparently he was getting some kind of funding from the chess federation and some other backers for us to publish this man's book I assume he was a chess celebrity of some extend so I had to go to his address and get all the information for the paperwork I found the house number and noticed in the notes bottom floor basement so I suppose I'm going down. At Least reaching the cold metal door tapping a good few times hearing movement from within.
The door opened and for a moment I was taken aback, a man stood there he was tall, slender with muscular toned arms, he was barefoot, blue well worn jeans around him, with a belt that sat on his hips my eyes went instantly to the knife in it's holster sat on his hip the button of the holster undone as if he was almost expecting to use it, a green textured button down across his chest unbuttoned to the center of his chest, bare but a few silver chains that hung there, a youthful face with long messy hair and a speckling of facial hair giving him an it of refinery, he seemed perplexed to see me looking me up and down as in surely just did to him
"Can I help you?" He asks
"Y/n Y/l/n. From hardwick publishing,"
"Ahh right publisher... girl. Benny watts, come on in" he offered so I stepped inside the rather cluttered basement apartment "take a seat" he offered a chair to me so I nodded and took the seat setting my paperwork on the table and he came sitting with me
"So your book?"
"Yes. My book. I'm thinking of calling it Chess stratagem for the advanced chess player" he explained
"We uhh the thing about titles is they need to be short and consise, like straight to the point as it helps with recognition, recommendation And memorability, that and we are limited physically by what is literally able to fit on a cover and on a spine" I explain
"Your cute" he smirked at me "sorry, all technical stuff"
"Sorry"
"It's alright all to technical for me, sounds just like cat meows"
"Sorry, I uhhh I'll try and stay simple"
"No worries kitty it's cute" he winked making my blush hard
