come saturday, i wake up bright and early. i don't have a care in the world, in fact, i don't think i've been this happy in a while.
and it's not necessarily because of lovejoy.
it's because i'll finally be reunited with aubrey.
i get in the car and shuffle the playlist that aubrey and i both made for our drives. the first song that plays is a song i added, reflections by the neighbourhood.
and i make the hour drive to london with a slight smile on my face the whole time.

when i arrive at aubrey's apartment complex, i can already see her standing outside, waiting for me.
and god, she's just as pretty as i remember.
her hair is still dark, she still wears winged eyeliner, she's still the same height. and i'm sure she still smells like pine and cinnamon.
she's wearing a black t-shirt, denim jacket, a thick black headband in her hair, and red and black plaid skirt. and i can't help but think about how the outfit would look if she still had red streaks in her dark hair.

as soon as i get out of the car and start walking towards her, she looks up from her phone. a huge smile forms across her face as she runs over.
she practically jumps into my open arms, and i almost forgot how well we fit together.
key word: almost.
she clings to me like she never has before. we rock back and forth and she buries her cheek into my chest.
"you're so warm..." she mutters. her voice is even better in real life than on the phone.
"you're so cold," i respond with a laugh.
"mhm... i missed you."
"i missed you too."
so much. like you have no idea.
once we finally break apart, we get into the car.
"we have to go to the studio first," i tell her. "did you eat breakfast?"
"i did," aubrey responds as she buckles her seatbelt. "did you?"
"i did."
"twins."
i laugh as i put the car in reverse and we drive to the studio.

when the two of us arrive after driving for half an hour, aubrey eagerly hops out of the car.
"this is cozy," she says as she admires the studio's outside.
"it's even better inside," i tell her. "come on."
without warning, aubrey's hand reaches out and clings to mine. my face burns hot, but i wrap my fingers around hers.
i like this side of her. a lot.
when we enter, i greet joe, ash, and mark. i introduce aubrey to them, and as i suspected, they love her.
but there's someone there that i wasn't expecting to see.
"why the hell are you here?" i ask.
"why the hell is she here?" tommy asks with a pout. "joe! i thought i was special!"
tommy looks down at aubrey and my hands, and gives me an eyebrow raise. i shoot him a look that says "if you say a word, i'll throw you out of this studio and will never stream with you ever again."
"i invited her," i defend. "but why did YOU show up?"
"i invited him," joe tells me, putting an arm around tommy. "thank god you brought aubrey, now tommy will have some company!"
"this-" i point at tommy. "-is not the type of company i want aubrey around."
i look down at aubrey, who seems to be tuning everything out as she looks around. she snaps into reality and makes eye contact with tommy.
"tommy!" aubrey exclaims as she lets go of me and runs to him. tommy smiles as he stands up and hugs aubrey.
"i missed you, aub-ray!" tommy shouts happily, his smile beaming.
"he might not be the company you want her around, but he seems to be the company she wants to be around," mark laughs.
"shut up. we've got some recording to do," i reply, rolling my eyes.
the six of us make our way into the recording room. aubrey and tommy sit in the corner on beanbags and watch while lovejoy works on their music.
"i'm thinking the first song we'll work on is 'oh yeah, you gonna cry?'" ash says. "that's gonna be the first song on the ep, and it's the first one you wrote." he looks at me. "is that okay with you?"
i glance at aubrey in the corner of my eye.
"yeah. sounds good," i respond.

aubrey's pov
"do you come and listen to lovejoy record often?" i ask tommy as the band discusses what song to record.
"no, this is my first time. though i have heard them practice," he responds as he watches wilbur with awe in his eyes.
"you like their music?"
"love their music."
i nod.
"have you heard any of the new songs?" tommy looks at me and frowns.
"i haven't! can you believe it? wilbur has kept them a secret."
"damn... well at least we can both hear the songs right now!"
"i guess that's true..." tommy crosses his arms and groans.
"you two," wilbur says, turning towards us. "we're gonna start recording. try to keep it down." tommy and i nod and the first notes of the song play.
i can tell by the first few notes that i like the song.

i nod. i felt that.

wilbur turns his head towards me and looks me in the eyes during the next part. his eyes almost look nervous.

there's no way he's talking about me. that just wouldn't make sense...
right?
