We were in the middle of nowhere, but I was sure we were close by. I could feel uncle's Nick presence even if it was faint.
"Are you sure we're here?" Wanda asked me again, to which I nodded my head yes again,
"I can feel his presence, and it's what I saw when I was looking into the guy's head. It must not be far anymore." I tell them, we got out of the car and I had turned it invisible just in case.
"We have to be careful, if we really are here, there will be HYDRA agents everywhere." Nat said and I became even more aware of how important the operation was,
"What is the plan regarding the agents?" Wanda asked, but we pretty much knew the answer,
"Kill before they have time to detect us or even ring an alarm." Nat said and we all nodded again, in understanding. I took out a tablet from the car and turned it on. We had some satellites up there that were giving us a vision from above us, and we were right, we could see some agents some miles away from us, and a very well guarded building, that looked abandoned. But who would protect something abandoned, unless there was something valuable inside?
"Mia will turn us invisible and then we just do our best to not get caught. Mia do you think you can turn every person we kill, invisible?" she asked me and I shrugged,
"I think I can yes." I tell them, we all took a deep breath and looked at each other,
"Show time." Wanda said, I placed the tablet back in the car making sure everything was invisible and I turned us invisible. My heart was beating so fast, I knew what I had to do and I know it was "kill or be killed" but I never loved the idea of taking one's life away. I tried to brush that idea away and concentrated on one thing only. Get Uncle Nick back.
As soon as we approached the first couple of agents that were standing guard outside, Nat approached one really slowly and used her wrists gadgets and electrocuted the first agents, while Wanda used her powers to snap the other agent's neck. As soon as they were out I turned them invisible, I don't know how long I will be able to get them to stay invisible but I hope it'll be enough time to do what we needed to do.
The more we walked towards the side of the building, the more we could hear some voices. I think they were at least 5 and we took them down all together at the same time. Nat killing two at once, Wanda one and me two, thanks to my powers. We took their badges and access cards and made our way inside.
The same cold feeling and grey concrete walls, as the previous HYDRA base we had been to, made a shiver run down my spine. I just wanted to get Nick and get it over with. We needed to go back to the compound and get rid of the rest too. But then I felt a sharp pain in my head, and I think that the fact that I wasn't concentrating anymore made us turn visible again, because Wanda all of a sudden was panicking.
"Mia! Mia are you okay? What's wrong? You need to turn us invisible again, they will see us." Wanda said, scared for me and scared for us to be detected,
"I'm in pain, something is trying to enter my head. Give me a second." I told her, and as soon as I closed my eyes and took deep breaths, I tried and concentrated in turning us back invisible, and once that was done I concentrated in blocking out whatever was trying to get to me. A really dark and bad feeling invaded me and my head. I had to be strong and so I used all my strength to block the invader, after what felt like an eternity I had managed to remember what the tree had told me, about my powers, about how when I feel like I am running out of energy I have to go find it somewhere else. In a memory, a person, a presence. And what made me stronger just now, was thinking about my mother and her smile. I had regained my composure, I was feeling as if my batteries were recharged instantly and I was full of powers and ready for anything. But I would need to talk to Loki about the dark presence trying to enter my mind.
"Sorry, I am back." I told them, they just looked around and nodded, we then managed to get through the whole building and taking down anyone who stood in our way. Finally finding a cell with what looked like, a very lifeless Nick. We picked him up and Nat had managed to put bombs on each corridors we had passed by and as soon as we got out of the building, she blew the whole thing up. I stopped all the invisibility powers I had casted on everyone and we ran back to the car and drove off to the safe house.
"He's gonna need medical attention." Wanda said, looking down at Uncle Nick as Nat was speeding to leave the place,
"I- I'm fine." his voice was hoarse and he really didn't look fine, at all.
"You don't look fine uncle Nick and now relax. I only have been able to heal myself and... get someone to come back to life, so I will need to concentrate in order to heal you." I tell him, and I was happy he didn't discuss what I was about to do, I closed my eyes and started to think and concentrate, concentrate on healing him and him getting better, I just heard a gasp from next to me and knew it was Wanda. I opened my eyes and my mouth fell just a bit, uncle Nick was glowing and I was the reason why.
"Guess he really needed your healing." Nat said from the front of the car. I continued to concentrate until my sparkles started to fade, he coughed a bit and then sat up straighter,
"Oh Mia." he said taking my hand and having tears in his eyes.
"Thank you so much for taking me out of here." he said in between sobs, Wanda had to look away, she didn't want him to feel uncomfortable. We stayed there talking a bit and explained to him what had happened at the compound and how we had managed to know it wasn't the real him and also we explained the next part of our plan.
"I have to go back with you." he told us trying to get us to let him come with,
"No, you need to be put in the safe house and once they are all down you can come back." I tell him, he was trying to act like a baby but I didn't want him put in the middle of more fights, I mean it was his job but he wasn't in the best shape and that's what being in a cell for two days does to you. Two days, Gosh, I was starting to feel so bad for not even realising it sooner.
"Did they do anything to you." Nat asked him,
"No. The guards always would come beat me up, also saying that someone was going to come and see me soon. But no one came besides you guys. So I really don't know what was their plan." he said sighing, and rubbing his forehead,
"Look Uncle Nick we are almost at the safe house, we will give you an earpiece so you can always get in touch with us and as soon as we will be done with them we will come get you okay?" I tell him and he just nodded, we quickly arrived in the middle of nowhere where the safe house was and dropped him off, making sure he locked everything, then we went back on our way, hopefully we didn't trigger any alarm when we went to retrieve uncle Nick.
Before going back to the compound, we had to try and make it look like we had done some shopping so we went to a store and bought different kinds of stuff just to make it look real. But once we arrived at the compound we weren't expecting the whole chaos that was there.
"What the hell happened here?" I asked as we enter the compound, chairs and tables were scattered on the floor, papers flying everywhere, I sensed Sam coming our way and turned to see him coming closer,
"So the plan didn't go as smoothly as expected." he said and all three of us raised an eyebrow,
"You think?" Wanda said,
"But good news, every bad agents has been taken care of. So yay." he said trying to seem happy,
"But what happened? We weren't supposed to do anything before tonight." I tell him, and he just motioned for us to follow him, and we made our way towards the control room,
"Well look who's here. You girls missed the party." Tony said, and I just couldn't help but roll my eyes, you call that a party?
"You should have seen us take down a whole compound of bad guys." Wanda said all proud,
"You took down the whole base?" the voice of Vision was heard and I am sure I heard Wanda's heart skip a beat, she nodded and blushed like crazy, I smiled at the both of them but turned towards Tony again, putting the 'shopping bags' on the floor,
"Talk to me Tony what happened?" I asked him, and at the same time Steve and Bucky entered with Sam and Clint,
"Hi sweetheart." I heard Clint say to me and I turned giving him the biggest bear hug ever,
"How are you feeling Clint? Let me grab a chair for you." I tell him, using my powers to bring a chair close to where he was and have him sitting on it, he didn't even have time to say anything, he looked at me gratefully,
"We think they started to have a hunch that you guys weren't really shopping, it is still unclear how they got the info but we took them all down, one by one they didn't get time to realize that already half of them were dead, it's an insider who told us they knew something was up." Steve said and I just nodded motioning for him to go on.
"We got everyone even one more person that wasn't on the list, his name was Michael Stern, he worked for us and never had any connection to HYDRA but apparently he changed teams and decided to be against us, so we had to take care of him too." I nodded again,
"So they are all dead?" Nat asked from beside me, and they nodded,
"What about the imposter?" I asked them,
"I took care of him." was all Buck said looking at me then at the floor, then all of a sudden the control room opened to a really wild looking Peter, who weirdly ran and engulfed me in his arms,
"Mia, oh my god, are you okay?" he asked, I honestly didn't move or reciprocate the hug, I was just perplexed,
"Yeah, I am fine Peter, thank you." I tell him, pulling away a bit,
"I just got news like an hour ago, Tony told me and then he told me that you had been shot, I hate myself that I wasn't there for you." he said scratching the back his neck,
"Don't worry Parker, some of us will always have her back." Steve said to him, nodding his head to Peter, who just swallowed thickly and looked back at me,
"I guess I should thank you then, Steve, for saving Mia." he said looking back at Steve,
"Oh I wasn't the one saving her, Bucky was." he said looking straight into Peter's eyes, and Bucky looking back at me then him, standing straighter,
"Ah, well thanks." Peter said, then looked back at me,
"Are you sure you are okay? You should stay a bit and rest, it's not good to travel when you just got shot, you need rest." he said putting his hand on my shoulder, I really wish his words were full of good intentions but unfortunately I could sense something,
"I am fine Pete I swear. I will get plenty of rest until I leave for Asgard." I tell him, and obviously his hand fell from my shoulder. My heart couldn't help but break, why couldn't he understand? I was feeling distressed and dizzy,
"You're still going?! You're incredible you know that? You just got shot and you don't even want to rest until you get better! Are you out of your damn mind." He started to speak louder and I think in my head I put him on mute because at some point I could only see his lips moving,
"Peter that is not your decision to take!" Clint intervened,
"It isn't?! I am her boyfriend for crying out loud!" he yelled, and that's when I felt it, a panic attack, I hadn't had one in a long time, since the time Tony found me on the floor soon after I had arrived at the compound.
"Then act like one!" I heard Sam yell back at him, and that's when I felt my throat closing up, and I started to gasp for air, and finally that's when I fell on my knees that the constant yelling stopped, Peter took a step back, because that is what boyfriends do right? Nop,
"Mia, Mia, calm down look at me." Steve had rushed by my side, his gigantic hands cupping my face, my vision was blurry due to the tears, I was struggling so much to just breathe.
"Mia, look only at me. It's okay, breathe in and out slowly." he said, and I closed my eyes, trying to concentrate on his words. Soon the feet that I knew belonged to Peter left my eyesight and I could only guess that he had left, then I felt someone else kneel beside me.
"Hey doll, look could you please calm down, look at me okay?" I heard Bucky's voice from the other side of Steve, I turned to look at him and saw that he was trying to smile at me despite the pain visible in his eyes, I only nodded to the both of them.
Taking deep breaths and trying to calm down, listening to them saying to breathe in and out slowly. A good five minutes later I had calmed down and had whipped all the tears from eyes and face.
"You okay sweets?" Clint asked from his chair, putting a gentle hand on my shoulder, rubbing gently, I just nodded and tried to send a smile his way.
"I am going to talk to the kid, this can't go on." Tony said, and I didn't have the strength to tell him not to, that he was already out the door. The guys helped me up and I leaned against the big table in the room,
"What about we put our pyjamas, take Aly, order tons of food and stay in the theatre room? I think we all deserve it." Nat said brushing my hair softly and I just nodded. This whole panic attack and the fact that I used my powers so much had a big impact on my body and I knew that it would still take time until I would manage and control them enough not to feel exhausted after such a day.
"Can we join?" everyone left in the room asked and we nodded of course, the more the merrier.
"What about all the chaos here?" I asked Steve, as he put his arm around me.
"I am sure someone will take care of it, and after the day we all had I think we deserve some rest and some fun." He tells me while we made our way out of the control room.
"I love you guys. Thank you for always being there." I tell them all, and they all happily smiled,
"Always there, just like I promised." I heard Bucky say into my ear, I didn't need to see him to know he was smiling, and that made me smile too.
We all got ready to spend some time all together and finally relax a bit, of course not before letting uncle Nick know he was good to come back and having Sam and Bruce pick him up.
