Chapter 8: ice pack

Katie’s P.O.V

I don't need a man to make it happen

I get off being free

I don't need a man to make me feel good

I get off doing my thing

I don't need a ring around my finger

To make me feel complete

So let me break it down

I can get off when you ain't around

Oh!

“Hello,” I answered my phone slowly.

“Katie, good to hear you voice again.” I froze at the voice.  I knew that voice and it wasn’t good at all. My uncle, a.k.a my dad’s enemy and mine.

“What do you want?” I growled at him.

“Now that’s no way to talk to your favorite uncle,” I could hear the smirk in his words.

“You’re my only uncle,” I spat out.

“Listen,” he snapped sending chills down my back.

“I’m listening,” I growled. I tried not to let him know I was scared but I think that failed.

“Leave Alana or else I will painfully chop your dads head off and make you watch the video,” he growled out before cutting off the line. I swallowed hard before falling against the wall and sliding down. For the first time in years I cried. I cried because I didn’t know what to do, I cried because my life is messed up. I fucked everything up because I am a fuck up.

I fucking hate family. I’m so sorry Alana…

Alana’s P.O.V

I turned over in my bed trying to shield my eyes from the sun that was bright through my curtains. I took a deep relaxing breath, wait this doesn’t smell like my bed. It smells likes sweat and cheap but good cologne, weird combination but it smelt good together. I heard a throat clear, I shot up like the bed was on fire.

“I see you're up,” a male voice said.

“Ow,” I groaned as my hand shot to my back. What the hell did I do?

“How’s your back and ribs?” the male’s voice asked again. My head shot up to look into Jack McCarty’s eyes. I felt my eyes widen in shock. What is he doing here?

“What are you doing here?” I asked, I sounded snappier than I wanted to. My hand shot up to my mouth.

“You’re actually at my house,” he started while smirking at me. I’m starting to hate that stupid smirk.  My eyes widened again.

“W-wha-,” I couldn’t get my word out before he interrupted me.

“Try to remember, Katie left,” he said slowly. He looked very uncomfortable, biting his lip worriedly. My eyes widen again. Katie left? What- wait? Oh, this makes way more sense.

“Katie? You saw my grandparents?” I asked my breath coming out in short pants. No, no, shit! This can’t be happening. I’m so dead. Oh God, he can't tell anyone. “You can’t tell anyone.”

“Why?” he asked, that smirk coming back into his lips. I really wanted to slap that smirk off his lips. My hand twitched, ready to reach out and hit that pretty face if I had to.

“Because I said so!” I yelled at him. I got off the bed but collapsed back onto it, holding my ribs and my back. I felt tears threatening to spill. I closed my eyes and counted to ten before opening them again. Jack was now leaning against the door while looking past me; I could tell he felt uncomfortable.

“Do you want an ice pack or something?” he asked still not looking at me.

“A freaking ice pack?!” I hissed at him. That made his eyes snap to mine and he looked pissed. He strolled to me in two big steps still looking me in the eyes.

“I’m trying to be nice. I’m sorry I’m not a freaking rich brat. I’m sorry I don’t have a massage person on speed dial. I’m sorry Alana, I’m so fucking sorry.” The look in his eyes made me cringe back. I swolled hard I narrowed my eyes at him. I knew I had hit a nerve but I refused to back down.

“What the hell is your problem?!” I shouted. My anger fuelled up and I couldn’t feel the pain anymore as I stood up. “I’m a rich brat? You saw what happened to me with my grandparents. That was not the first time that’s happened. You have no idea who I am!” I was panting, my lungs screaming for me to just lay down but I ignored the twinkle of pain.

Jacks eyes locked with mine. His eyes still held anger but he looked like he wanted to say something but didn’t. I clenched my jaw so I didn’t scream out in pain. The pain was back and worst then before. I slowly put a hand on my back, gently.

“You should sit down,” Jack commented while grabbing a red rolling chair. I slowly sat down in the chair, trying to be careful of my ribs. I felt a trader tear roll down my check and I quickly wiped it away. I really hoped Jack didn't see that.

“Thanks,” I whispered, keeping my head down so he didn’t see my probably red eyes. I wanted to cry but I couldn’t, I could not let him see me cry. Not again, not ever.

       “Are you hungry?” he asked.

“Hungry?” I asked my eye brows shooting up; I looked up at him with a small smile on my face.

“I could order us pizza or something and we can watch a movie?” he suggested looking embarrassed.

“What movie?” I asked a full blown smile on my face now.

“I was thinking one of the Fast and Furious movies?” he asked while scratching the back on his neck. My eyes lit up.

“Hell yeah and I don’t care which one,” I told him. Funny how we can go from wanting to rip each other’s throats out to having fun.

After the movie Jack offered me a ride home which I took. Now I sat at my door still in his truck not wanting to get out. I know he has a motorcycle and truck, not fair and apparently he has a car to.

“Maybe we can go bowling?” Jack asked not sure what to say.  I let out a little laugh before shaking my head.

“No I have to face them some time or another. Thank you Jack,” I told him smiling while jumping out of his truck. Let hell began, I thought.
